Wolfpack loses its opener; Wolves win to improve to 2-0
WHARTON - The Wharton Wolfpack U13 boys traveling soccer team opened its season with a 3-1 loss to Wallkill Valley in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association (MCYSA) game played at Morris Hills High School on Sunday, Sept. 20. Wallkill Valley scored first, but Ryan Machuga’s penalty kick midway through the first half evened the score at 1-1. Machuga was pulled down after some very hard work in the offensive area and then calmly planted the free kick into the upper left-hand corner of the net. The defenses took over in the second half and neither team was able to put the ball into the back of the net.
Wolves U14 Girls The Wharton Wolves U14 girls traveling soccer team improved its MCYSA record to 2-0 with a 2-0 victory over High Point in a game played at Morris Hills High School on Sunday, Sept. 13. Breanna Canfield gave the Wolves a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when she converted a pass from Christina Candelario. The Wolves added an insurance goal early in the second half when Lauren Sysn scored an unassisted goal.
