Blue Angels flag teams end season with wins

     DENVILLE - Two Blue Angel combined flag football teams ended their seasons on winning notes last week as team made up of three second-grade teams defeated a similar team from Long Valley, 20-7, at Gardner Field on Saturday, Nov. 7, and a combined first-grade team beat Long Valley, 20-19, at in a game played at Fireman?s Field on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
    Ryan McAndrew rushed for two touchdowns, Jonathan Blum ran for one and Michael DeNucci rushed for both extra points in the second-graders' victory.
    Solid line blocking by Cory Edwards, Grant Weinmann and Christopher Tavarone keyed the Blue Angels' ground attack.
    Daniel Hagan, Luke Malatesta, Justin Saul and Ronan Buckingham led the Blue Angel defense that allowed but one score.
    The first-graders got two TDs on runs by Stephen Carri and another rushing TD from Jack Napeloni.
    Jack Forgione and Carri rushed for the PAT points that made the difference in the game.
    Napeloni, Carri and Kaiser led a Blue Angel ground attack that was helped by the strong blocking of Jackson Nye, Jack Simpson, Conor Gibbs and Thomas Jupin.
    Solid defensive work by Shane Perry, Joey Dellamonache, Shane Percelay and
Forgione shut down Lenape Valley one last time late in the game as they were driving for another score.
Blue Angels clinic team loses first in 3 seasons

    DENVILLE - The Denville clinic team lost its first Morris County Youth Football League game in three seasons when the Blue Angels were beaten by the Junior Knights, 13-12, in a game played at Gardner Field here on Friday, Oct. 30.
    Denville took a 6-0 lead when quarterback Nick DeNucci fired a 22-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Russo.
    Later, Denville threatened again but the Junior Knights Wharton stopped a Blue Angel fourth-and-one play on the Wharton 10-yard line and then went on a 90-yard scoring drive to take the lead for good at 7-6. Wharton made it 13-6 when it recovered a Denville fumble and drove in for another score.
    Ryan Greenhagen, who rushed for a game-high 118 yards - broke a 63-yard run for a TD midway through the fourth quarter only to have the play for the tying one-point conversion fail.
    Denville forced the Junior Knights to go three-and-out on its possession following the kickoff, but the Blue Angels were halted by the Wharton defense as time ran out.
   
Patriots win, 12-0, in flag football
    The Denville Patriots flag football team remained unbeaten in seven games by beating Parsippany Hills Black, 12-0, in a game played at Fireman?s Field here on Saturday, Oct. 31.
    Jonathan Blum rushed for both TDs for the Patriots, running mostly behind the blocking of Connor Gibbs, Grant Weinmann and Tommy Rooney.
    The defense, which stopped Par Hills four times on a first-and-goal from the 5-yard line situation in the fourth period with Denville leading 6-0, was led by Michael DeNucci, Stephen Carri, Cory Edwards, Vincenzo Rocha and Sean Sullivan.

Steelers flag team loses, 13-0   
    The Denville Steelers flag team lost a 13-0 decision to the Morristown White at Fireman?s Field on Saturday as both teams had strong defensive efforts.
    Leading the way for Denville (4-3) on both sides of the ball were Luke Malatesta, Chris Tavarone, Justin Saul, Joack Forgione and Gavin Walsh.

in Regional Flag Tourney

    DENVILLE - The Denville Eagles U11 flag football team participated in an NFL Flag Football Regional Tournament at the New York Jets training complex in Florham Park on Saturday, Oct. 24.
    The Eagles beat the New Hampshire Red Storm, 6-0, to open tourney paly; lost a hard-fought game to a team from Yonkers, N.Y., 14-8; and then were eliminated from further competition by losing to the Long Island Jets, 27-0.
    The Bears of Gary, Ind., went on to win the 30-team U11 age group division and earn a spot in the NFL Flag Football National Tournament that is scheduled to be played in Miami, Fla.
    Denville coaches Horacio Pellegrino and Fritz Mott had high praise for their team's efforts in the tournament.
    "We knew they would be facing older kids and teams that had played more games and were more high-powered," Mott said after the tournament. "But it was a good learning experience and should help us to improve our standing in next year's tournament."
    The Denville Eagles, defending champs of the New Jersey Flag Football Association, resume league play on Saturday, Oct. 31, against the Randolph Rams in a game scheduled for Kiroy Field in Wayne.

TDs by DeNucci, Romano,
Greenhagen lift clinic team

     DENVILLE - Nick DeNucci, Ryan Greenhagen and Tommy Romano scored touchdowns as the Denville Blue Angels clinic team remained unbeaten at 7-0 with a 20-0 victory over Jefferson in a Morris County Youth Football League game played at Jefferson on Friday, Oct. 23.
    DeNucci dscored on a 4-yard run with Greenhagen adding the one-point conversion on a run; Greehagen broke loose for a 51-yard run for the second TD with DeNucci passing to Jsaun Mobley for the one-point PAT; and Romano scored the last points of the game on a 16-yard run for the Blue Angels.
    Greehagen finished as the team's leading rusher with 113 yards.
    Other offensive highlights include a 21-yard run by David Kaiser; a 14-yard run by Ryan Russo; and a 12-yard pass play from DeNucci to Russo.
    Kaiser also intercepted a pass and returned it 20 yards to highlight a defensive effort that shut out the home team.

Patriots win, Steelers bow in Flag Division
    DENVILLE - Jonathan Blum scored two touchdowns and ran for two one-point conversions to lead the Denville Patriots to a 28-6 victory over the Junior Knights Black team in a Morris County Youth Football Flag Division game played at Fireman's Field here on Saturday, Oct. 24.
    Michael DeNucci added one touchdown by run and also scored on a one-point PAT run; Cory Edwards ran for the Patriots' fourth TD and Stephen Carri added a one-point conversion round to complete the scoring for Denville.
    The Denville Steelers and Boonton/Mountain Lakes flag division teams also played on Saturday with the Boonton/ML team stopping the Steelers, 13-0, scoring all of its points in the first half.
    The second half was a defensive battle for both sides with Shane Percelay, Patrick Kaiser, Steven Vittorio, Shane Perry and Jack Simpson leading the way as the Steelers were able to keep Boonton/ML off the scoreboard.

WEEK SIX
Blue Angel clinic team
stays unbeaten at 6-0

     DENVILLE - The unbeaten Denville Blue Angels clinic football team won its sixth game of the 2009 season with a 26-0 victory over Hopatcong in a Morris County Youth Football League game played at Hopatcong High School on Saturday, Oct. 17.
    Four different Blue Angels scored touchdowns as Ryan Russo scored on a 14-yard pass from Nick DeNucci; Ryan Greenhagen scored on a 44-yard run; Joey Taylor scored on a 4-yard run; and Michael Seeley plunged in from the 1-yard line for Denville's final six-pointer.
    David Kaiser and Christopher Willis each scored on PAT runs to round out the Blue Angel scoring.
    Other offensive highlights included a 30-yard run by Billy Tuttle and 51 yards worth of rushing for the game by Dylan Berchin.
    On defense, the Blue Angels recovered four fumbles, one each by Anthony Bogovic, Tommy Romano, Damon Lattuga and Kyle Bargfrede.


Flag schedule postponed    
    The complete schedule of flag game involving the Denville Blue Angels this past weekend was postponed because of adverse weather and field conditions.

WEEK FIVE
Greehagen TDs lift
Angels clinic team


    DENVILLE - Ryan Greenhagen scored two touchdowns and Dave Kaiser had one as the Denville Blue Angels defeated the Hackettstown Tigers, 19-7, in a Morris County Youth Football League Clinic Division game at Hackettstown on Saturday, Oct. 10.
    Greenhagen scored on a 6-yard run and Nick DeNucci ran for the extra point as Denville took a 7-0 first-quarter lead. Kaiser scored on a 5-yard run in the second quater to give Denville a 13-0 lead at the half.
    Greehagen scored his second TD on a 30-yard run in the third period and Hackettstown got on the board in the final quarter for the final points of the game.
    Greenhaen finished with 125 yards rushing and DeNucci added another 57 yards on the ground. Joe Taylor chipped in with a 24-yard run.
    On defense, Dylan Berchin had a sack and caused and recovered a fumble; Josh Lefferts had a sack; and DeNucci and Greenhagen each had a pass interception.


Patriots beat Junior Knights in flag division
   
DENVILLE - Jonathan Blum ran for two touchdowns and Michael DeNucci and Sean Sullivan each had one rushing TD as the Denville Patriots beat the Junior Knights White, 26-6, in a Morris County Youth Football League Flag Division game played at Roberts Park in Wharton on Sunday, Oct. 11.
    Blum and DeNucci also had 1-point PAT runs to complete the Patriots? scoring.
    Vincenzo Rocha, Tommy Rooney and Grant Weinmann keyed a solid Denville defensive effort and the offensive line led by Connor Gibbs, Stephen Carri and Cory Edwards played its best game of the season, according to the Denville coaches.

Steelers flag team loses first of season
    DENVILLE - The Denville Steelers flag football team lost its first game of the season after four victories in a 19-6 defeat at the hand of Somerset Hills Gold in an MCYFL game played at Gardner Field here Sunday, Oct. 11.
    Ryan McAndrew scored the Steelers only points on a 50-yard touchdown run. Lineman Justin Saul was singled out by the Steeler coaches for his solid play on both sides of the ball.


Denville Eagles open with a win and a tie

    DENVILLE - The Denville Eagles flag football team opened their North Jersey Flag Football League season by beating the Pequannock Cardinals, 39-12, on Saturday, Oct. 10, and then scoring a late touchdown and a 2-point conversion to rally for a 21-21 tie against the Wayne Valley Colts in games played at Kilroy Field in Wayne.
    In Saturday's game, Bryce Mott threw three TD passes and returned an interception 50 yards for a fourth TD. Matias Pellegrino caught two TD passes and Phillip Kirna caught the third. Justin Adams and Carola Pellegrino each rushed for TDs and the Eagles were awarded a two-point safety when Edward Loosemore sacked the Pequannock quarterback in the endzone.
    On Sunday, Mott threw a 20-yard TD pass to Matias Pellegrino and the same pair combined for a 2-point conversion pass in the final minute of the game to tie the Colts. Mott also threw a 12-yard TD pass to Adams

WEEK FOUR
Vittorio leads way
 for super peewees
     
    
       DENVILLE - Nick Vittorio rushed for one touchdowns and passed for two others as the Denville Blue Angels super peewee football team beat Boonton/Mountain Lakes, 26-7, in a Morris County Youth Football League game played at Boonton High School on Saturday, Oct. 3.
    Vittorio scored on an 18-yard run in the first period and Nick Rupp added a 6-yard TD run in the second quarter to give the Blue Angels a 13-0 lead at the half.
     In the third period, Vittorio threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Covello and then added a 22-yard TD throw to Tyler Faccenda in the final period.
     Tommy Vollmar rounded out the Blue Angels' scoring for the game when he plunged for two 1-point conversions following the second-half touchdowns.
     Rupp finished with 76 yards rushing on 11 carries for Denville, now 3-2.   
     Vittorio's first TD run was aided by a downfield block by August Blumhoefer that allowed Vittorio to complete his scoring run.
      Defensive highlights include a sack by Josh Frio that caused a fumble that was recovered by Erik Gustavson; Vollmar's team-leading six tackles; and a solid defensive effort that allowed Boonton/Mountain Lakes to make but one first down in the first half.
    The super peewees next game is against Hackettstown on Friday, Oct. 9, at Gardner Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.

Blue Angels clinic team wins
     DENVILLE - The Denville Blue Angels defeated Boonton/Mountain Lakes, 13-0, in a battle of unbeaten teams in a Morris County Youth Football League clinic division game played at Boonton High School on Saturday, Oct. 3.
     Both teams had entered the game with 3-0 records.
     Denville's Ryan Greenhagen scored on a 53-yard run in the first quarter and quarterback Nick DeNucci sneaked in from the 1-yard line for a second-quarter TD. David Kaiser's PAT run after DeNucci's TD completed the scoring for the Blue Angels.
     Greenhagen finished with 107 rushing yards for the Blue Angels and Ryan Russo caught a 16-yard pass from DeNucci for another key offensive play.
     Kaiser had a big fumble recovery and also added an interception for the Blue Angels. With the score 6-0 and Boonton/Mountain Lakes driving, the Blue Angels' Charlie Blood forced a fumble and Kaiser alertly covered it to put a halt to the home team's momentum.
     Joe Taylor also had an interception for the Blue Angels.

Steelers flag team wins on McAndrew TD, 6-0
      DENVILLE - Ryan McAndrew scored the only touchdown of the game as the Denville Steelers beat the Parsippany Hills Black, 6-0, in a Morris County Youth Football League Flag Division game played in the rain at Fireman?s Field here on Saturday, Oct. 3.
     McAndrew broke loose for his 82-yard scoring run late in the second period and the Denville defense made the TD stand up.
     Defensive highlights included the play of backs Nick Paton, Patrick Kaiser, Gavin Walsh, Shane Perry and McAndrew. The defensive line led by Shane Percelay and Matthew Molinaro also came in for praise by the Steelers' coaching staff.
     Also worth noting, according to the coaches, were the flawless exchanges between center Jake Nienstadt and quarterback Walsh throughout the game in spite of the slippery conditions and the defensive pressure applied by Parsippany Hills.

Patts win battle of unbeaten flag teams, 13-6
     Trailing by a touchdown, the Denville Patriots rallied for a 13-6 victory over Morristown White in a MCYFL battle of unbeaten Flag Division teams at Cornine Field in Morris Township on Saturday, Oct. 3.
    The win put the Patriots record at 4-0 for the season while Morristown slipped to 3-1 with the loss.
     Trailing 6-0, the Patriots' Jonathan Blum rushed for a touchdown and an extra point to give Denville a 7-6 lead and then Michael DeNucci rushed for a second TD for the final points of the game.
     DeNucci also had an interception to halt a Morristown scoring fourth-period scoring threat.
      Connor Gibbs, Grant Weinmann and Cory Edwards were praised by the coaching staff for their solid work on the offensive line throughout the game. The defense was led by Tommy Jupin, Stephen Carri, Sean Sullivan, Blum and DeNucci.

WEEK THREE
Blue Angels in pre-clinic tie
       
     DENVILLE - Brydon Gibbs scored Denville's only touchdown as the Blue Angels and Madison battled to a 6-6 tie in a Morris County Youth Football League pre-clinic game played  at Madison on Sautrday, Sept. 26.
     The Blue Angel coaching staff reported that the entire team played a solid game and the coaches to a man were pleased with the "total team effort."
    

Blue Angels super peewees lose a close one
      Nick Rupp scored on a 5-yard run for Denville's only TD of the day as the Blue Angels lost a 13-7 decision to Madison in a Morris County Youth Football League super peewee division game played at Gardner Field here on Friday, Sept 25.
     Rupp's TD and Nick Vitorio's one-point conversion pass to August Blumhoefer gave Denville a 7-0 first-period lead but Madison came back to tie the game in the third period and then scored the winning TD in the final period.
     Other offensive highlights for Denville included Jared Sorce's 40-yard run on the Blue Angels' first play from scrimmage and Tyler Faccenda's 52-yard kickoff return after Madison's third-quarter TD.
     On defense, Vittorio had a team-high seven tackles; Dominic D'Altilio recovered an onsides kickoff after Denville's first-quarter TD; and Sorce intercepted a Madison pass.

WEEK TWO    
Steelers nip Jr. Knights 
     Luke Malatesta's 60-yard touchdown run late in the game and Jack Forgione's run for the PAT gave the Denville Steelers a 19-18 victory over the Junior Knights White team in a MCYFL flag division game Sunday, Sept. 17.
      Forgione scored the first Steeler TD on a quarterback keeper, a score that was set up by a 45-yard run by Ryan McAndrew.
     Nicholas Paton scored Denville's second TD on a 25-yard sweep.
    Justin Saul and Patrick Kaiser had a good day blocking on the offensive line and Shane Perry, Ryan McAndrew and Jack Simpson had strong defensive showings, according to the Steelers' coaches.

Blum's 2 TD runs lead Patriots to 34-6 win
    Jonathan Blum rushed for two touchdowns and threw a 55-yard TD pass to Michael DeNucci as the Denville Patriots beat the Junior Knights Red team, 34-6, in a MCYFL flag division game Sunday.
    Sean Sullivan and Vincenzo Rocha also had two rushing TDs for the Patriots.
    Stephen Carri and Grant Weinmann rushed for extra points and Blum threw a 2-point conversion pass to Michael DeNucci to round out Denville's scoring.
     The Pats' coaches singled out Cory Edwards, Tommy Jupin, Joey Delle-monache, Tommy Rooney and Michael DeNucci for their work on defense and Connor Gibbs, Sean Fitzsimmons and Grant Weinmann for anchoring the offensive line.


WEEK TWO
Blum's 3 rushing TDs
spark Patriots to a win


     DENVILLE - Jonathan Blum rushed for three touchdowns and threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to Michael DeNucci as the Denville Patriots defeated the Morristown Maroon, 33-6, in a Morris County Youth Flag Football League game on Saturday, Sept. 19.
     Steven Carri rushed for a TD and an extra point and Cory Edwards and Sean Sullivan each ran for extra points to round out the Patriots scoring.
    The Patriots' coaching staff had praise for Tommy Jupin, Vincenzo Rocha, Joey DelleMonache, Edwards, Sullivan and DeNucci for their solid defensive efforts. 
   Offensive linemen Connor Gibbs and Grant Weinmann drew similar praise for theier work in the trenches.
     In another game, the Denville Steelers got four rushing touchdowns from four different players in a 25-6 victory over the Junior Knights Black.
   Ryan McAndrew, Luke Malatesta, Steven Vittorio and Matthew Molinaro each rushed for a touchdown while Patrick Kaiser rushed for an extra point to complete the Steelers' scoring.
    In the only other game reported, the Denville Giants beat the Junior Knights Red, 18-6.

Pats, Giants, Steelers open with wins
      DENVILLE - All three Denville flag football teams won their opening-day games in the Morris County Youth Football League on Sunday, Sept, 12, with the Patriots preserving their victory with a goal-line stop on the last play of the game.
       The Patriots defeated Boonton/Mountain Lakes, 26-25; the Giants beat Somerset Hills Blue, 26-18; and the Steelers beat the Morristown Maroon, 26-19.
       Jonathan Blum scored all four TDs for the Patriots with Michael DeNucci and Stephen Carri scoring the team's crucial extra points.
       Boonton/Mountain Lakes scored a TD on the last play of regulation but their try for the extra point never got off the ground as the Patriots defense - led by Sean Sullivan, Grant Weinmann and Cory Edwards - swarmed over the quarterback before he could get his play developed.
       For the Giants, Michael Landolfi, NIck Parent and Anthony Colucci scored TDs and Daniel Hagen drew praise from the coaches for his solid game on defense.
       Chris Tavarone scored two TDs and an extra point and Luke Malatesta also scored two TDs to lead the Steelers to their victory. Justin Saul, Jack Forgione and Gavin Walsh had strong defensive games, according to the coaching staff.
