Bulldogs reach title game
after rallying for 17-12 win

    DENVILLE - The Denville Bulldogs scored nine times in the second inning and added five more runs in the third on the way to a 17-12 victory over Triboro in a Montville Baseball League post-season playoff semifinal game played at Bloomingdale on Sunday, June 12, 2011.
    Denville (14-1) will play unbeaten (15-0) West Essex - the only team to beat the Bulldogs this season - in the championship game on Saturday, June 19, at the Montville Municipal Field at 4 p.m.
    Triboro bolted out to a 6-0 lead after one inning of play before Denville answered with its nine-run outburst in the top of the second.
    Ryan Russo started the rally with a one-out walk and Joe Taylor and Erik Gustavson also walked to load the bases. David Kaiser singled in one run; Kyle Bargfrede followed with a two-run single; and, after Ryan Greenhagen walked, Nick Rupp and Nick Denucci each followed with two-run singles to give Denville a 7-6 lead.
    Andrew Kispert drew another walk and Connor Eppel drove in the eighth run of the inning with a groundout before Russo followed with a two-out double to drive in the ninth and final run of the inning.
    Triboro battled back with three runs of its own to tie the score at 9-9 in the bottom of the second inning, but Denville took the lead for good in the top of the third when it answered with a five-run flurry.
    Gustavson walked and scored on Bargfrede's double for the first run. Greenhagen singled in Bargfrede; Denucci doubled home another run; the fourth scored on a Kispert single and Eppell drove in the fifth run with a single to give Denville a 14-9 lead.
    Denville scored a run in the top of the fifth when Kispert singled in Eppel. In the top of the seventh, Denville scored its final two runs of the game when Bargfrede and Greenhagen scored on errors.
    Bargfrede, Greenhagen, Rupp, Denucci and Kispert each had two hits to spark Denville's 13-hit attack. Kaiser, Eppel and Russo each added one hit.
    Denville pitching settled down after the second inning with Eppell pitching three scoreless inining of one-hit ball with five strikeouts; Denucci working 2.1 innings, giving up three runs and striking out three; and Greenhagen getting out of two-out bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh by getting the last two outs of the game.

Bargfrede, Rupp lead Bulldogs to playoff win
    DENVILLE -
Kyle Bargfrede and Nick Rupp each went 3-for-3 and combined for six RBIs to lead the Denville Bulldogs 11U baseball travel team to a 10-5 victory over the Wayne PAL in a first-round game of the Montville 11U Baseball League post-season playoffs played at Gardner Field on Sunday, June 5, 2011.
    After Wayne took a 1-0 lead in its first at-bat, Denville (13-1) scored three runs when Bargfrede singled, Ryan Greenhagen walked and, after a double steal, Rupp followed with a two-run single and Nick DeNucci doubled home Rupp.
    Wayne tied it at 3-3 with a two-run second inning, but Denville regained the lead in the bottom of the second when Connor Eppel walked, Ryan Russo singled and Erik Gustavson followed with an RBI single.
    Singles by Bargfrede, Rupp and DeNucci were the big hits in the Bulldog's two-run third inning and Eppel and Russo singled and to put runners on first and third and Taylor followed with a squeeze bunt to bring in Eppel with the Bulldogs' seventh run.
    In the fifth, Jake Sinegra and David Kaiser drew walks and both came in on a double by Bargfrede. Bargfrede was driven in by a single by Rupp.
    DeNucci was 2-for-3 with tgwo RBIs for the Bulldogs; Russo was also 2-for-3 and scored a run; and Dylan Lynch was 1-for-2.
    Eppel worked the first two innings, giving up three runs on three hits; Rupp pitched the next 2.2 innings, alloweing two runs on one hit while striking out 5; Ryan Greenhagen got the only batter he faced when he came in for Rupp in the fifth; and DeNucci closed out the game by pitching two scoreless and hitless innings.

Rupp's walk-off single gives Bulldogs holiday title
    DENVILLE -
Nick Rupp's walk-off single drove in David Kaiser with the winning run when the Denville Bulldogs 11U travel baseball team beat AGX of Andover, 4-3, to win the 2011 Sparta Memorial Day Baseball Tournament held in Sparta on the holiday weekend.
    The Bulldogs (12-1), seeded No. 2 in the eight-team, single-elimination tournament, beat Vernon, 3-2, in the opening round of the tournament and stopped High Point, 11-0, in the semifinal round to earn its berth in the championship game against AGX.
    In the title game, the Bulldogs entered the bottom of the sixth and final inning with the score tied, 3-3. Kaiser opened the inning by reaching on an error and moved on to third on a one-out single by Ryan Greenhagen. Rupp followed by lining his winning single between first second.
    AGX took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first but Denville tied the game in the bottom of the second when Nick DeNucci and Connor Eppel walked and, after a double steal, DeNucci scored on Joe Taylor's bunt single.
    AGX took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth and the Bulldogs came back to tie with single runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings. Rupp and DeNucci hit back-to-back doubles to account for the fourth-inning run and the Bulldogs tied the game in the fifth when Connor Eppell walked and came around to score on back-to-back errors.
    Rupp and DeNucci handled the pitching chores for Denville with Rupp starting and going 3.1 innings, allowing three runs on two hits while striking out six before giving way to DeNucci, who finished with 2.2 scoreless innings, including a 1-2-3 top of the sixth, to get the win.
    "This team has been together for two years now and it was only a matter of time before we won a tournament," said Bulldog manager George Bargfrede after the game. "All the hard work these kids have done has finally paid off with this championship."
    In the opening game victory over Vernon - the  team that knocked out the Bulldogs last year - Denville took a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Taylor and Eric Gustavson walked, Dylan Lynch drove in Taylor with a double and Gustavson scored on a wild pitch.
    Vernon scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to tie the score at 2-2 and the Bulldogs won it in the bottom of the sixth when Taylor lead off with a single, was sacrificed to second by Gustavson and, after Lynch was hit with a pitch and Jake Sinegra beat out a bunt single to load the bases, Kaiser - who finished the game 3-for-3, drove the ball over the center fielder's head to drive in Taylor with the winning run.
    Eppel started and pitched the first three innings, giving up one run on one hit while striking out seven; Ryan Russo worked the next 2.1 innings and gave up one run on two hits while striking out four; and Rupp, who came into the game with a run in, two on and one out in the top of the sixth and walked the bases loaded, struck out the final two batters of the inning to get out of the jam and pick up the win when the Bulldogs scored in the bottom of the inning.
    The Bulldogs scored six first-inning runs against High Point in a game halted by the tournament's mercy rule. Taylor had a first-inning triple and DeNucci had a double in Denville's four-run third inning to highlight the hitting attack.
    Greenhagen worked two hitless innings with two strikeouts and Kaiser pitched two-hit ball with two strikeouts for the next two innings.

Bulldogs finish season 7-1 aftrer doubleheader sweep
    DENVILLE -
The Denville Bulldogs 11-under travel baseball team had on its hitting shoes when the Bulldogs a pair of games at Gardner Field here, beating Mount Olive, 21-2, in the first game and beating Triboro, 14-2, in the second game of a split Montville Spring Baseball League doubleheader played Sunday, May 22, 2011.
    The Bulldogs pounded out 37 hits in the two games as the sweep gave the Denville team a final regular-season league record of 7-1.
    In the opener, Nick DeNucci's two-run triple keyed a six-run first inning and the Bulldogs never looked back, finishing the game with 18 hits.
    Nick Rupp, Ryan Russo and DeNucci each had three hits with Russo going 3-for-3 and Rupp and DeNucci finishing 3-for-4.
    David Kaiser, Jake Sinegra and Ryan Greenhagen each finished 2-for-3; Joe Taylor and Andrew Kispert were each 1-for-2; and Kyhle Bargfrede was 1-for-4.
    Greenhagen was the first of three Bulldog pitchers and he got the win, working three innings while allowing only one hit and striking out three. Bargfrede pitched the final two innings and gave up a run on two hits while striking out five.
    In the second game, Bargfrede had the only three-hit day on the Bulldogs as the team cut loose with a 19-hit attack to beat Triboro.
    DeNucci and Taylor were each 2-for-2; Connor Eppel, Dylan Lynch and Kispert each finished the game 2-for-3; and Greenhagen and Kaiser were each 2-for-4; Eric Gustavson was 1-for-2; and Rupp was 1-for-3.
    Eppel, DeNucci and Rupp combined for a three-hitter with Rupp finishing up with a 1-2-3 fifth inning with one strikeout
    The Bulldogs scored 122 runs in eight regular-season games.

Bulldogs' 17-hit attack beats Verona, 16-6

     DENVILLE - The Denville Bulldogs 11U baseball travel team built up a 10-0 lead after three innings and finished with 17 hits to beat previously unbeaen Verona, 16-6, in a Cerbo Baseball League game played at Everett Field in Verona on Sunday, May 8, 2011.
     The Bulldogs (5-1) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on Joey Taylor's two out, two-run single. They added eight runs in the third with Nick DeNucci's two-run triple and Connor Eppel's two-run homer doing the most damage.
     Ruamn Russo led the Bulldog's attack by going 3-fort-3; David Kaiser, Ryan Greenhagen, Eppell, DeNucci and Taylor each finished with two hits; and Kyle Bargfredfede, Nick Rupp, Jake Sinegra and Eric Gustavson each had one hit;.
     Three Bulldog pitchers combined to hold Verona (3-1) to six hits. DeNucci started the game and got the win, working three innings and give up two runs on three hits while striking outfour. Eppel threw two innings and allowed two runs on two hits; and Rupp finished up, allowing one run on one hit while striking out four in his two innings of work.

Bargfrede, Greehagen get key hits in 10-6 win
    DENVILLE - Doubles by Kyle Bargfrede and Ryan Greehagen keyed a three-run first inning when the Denville Bulldogs 11U travel baseball team defeated Randolph, 10-6, in a Cerbo League game played at Gardner Field on Sunday, May 1, 2011.
    Nick Rupp, Bargfrede and Greenhagen each finished 3-for-3 to lead Denville (4-1). David Kaiser and Andrew Kispert each finished 1-for-3 for the Bulldogs.
    Kaiser was the starting and winning pitcher, working the first three innings and giving up only three hits. Connor Eppel and Ryan Russo each provided an inning of relief and Greehagen pitched the last inning to close out the game.

Bulldogs lose first game of season, 12-8
    DENVILLE -
West Essex fought back from an 8-3 deficit to defeat the Denville Bulldogs 11U travel baseball team, 12-8, in a Cerbo League game played at Montclair on Saturday, April 30, 2011.
    Denville (3-1), with Kyle Bargfrede and Andrew Kispert hitting key doubles, took an early lead by scoring five times in the first inning but West Essex was able to battle back for the victory.
    Kispert finished the game 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs. Bargfrede was 1-for-2 with two walks; Ryan Greenhagen , Collor Eppel and Ryan Russo were each 1-for-2; and Dylan Lynch and Joe Taylor finished 1-for-3.
    Nick Denucci was the starting pitcher for the Bulldogs and he worked the first three innings allowing three runs while striking out five.

Greenhagen, Rupp back-to-back HRs key 16-5 victory
    DENVILLE -
Ryan Greenhagen and Nick Rupp hit back-to-back homers when the Denville Bulldogs 11u travel baseball team broke a 5-5 tie with four runs in the fifth inning and went on to beat TriTown, 16-5, in a Cerbo League baseball game played at Pepe Field in Boonton Township on Sunday, April 10, 2011.
    Nick Denucci led the Bulldogs' 13-hit attack by going 4-for-4. Andrew Kispert finished the game 3-for-4; David Kaiser was 3-for-3; Rupp was 2-for-2; and Greenhagen finished 1-for-4.
    Connor Eppel, Denucci and Rupp shared the pitching duties for the Bulldogs with Rupp retiring nine straight batters - six by strikeout - in his three-inning stint.

Greenhagen, Denucci, Rupp key 17-3 victory

    DENVILLE - Trailing 3-0 after two innings, the Denville Bulldogs 10U travel baseball team scored nine runs in the third inning and went on to defeat Parsippany, 17-3, in Cerbo League game played at Gardner Field on Sunday, April 3, 2011.
    Ryan Greenhagen and Nick Denucci each had two-run singles to key the nine-run inning.
    The Bulldogs sealed the game with an eight-run fifth inning with Nick Rupp getting the big hit - a bases-loaded, bases-clearing double.
    David Kaiser finished 3-for-5 to key the Bulldogs' 16-hit attack. Kyle Bargfrede, Connor Eppel, Dylan Lynch, Rupp and Denucci each had two hits and Erik Gustavson, Andrew Kispert and Greenhagen each had one hit.
    Kaiser, Denucci, Eppel and Rupp shared the pitching highlights for the Bulldogs. Kaiser pitched two scoreless innings with four strikeouts; Denucci struck out the side in his one inning of work; and Eppel and Rupp also pitched scoreless innings.

    Nick Rupp and Ryan Greenhagen each finished the game with three hits to key the Bulldogs' 14-hit attack.
    Kyle Bargfrede and Joe Taylor each had two hits and Dylan Lynch, David Kaiser, Nick Denucci and Erik Gustavson each finished with one hit.
    Connor Eppel, Denucci, Greenhagen and Kaiser shared the pitching duties for the Bulldogs.
