      ROCKAWAY TWP. - The St. Clement boys junior varsity basketball travel team had its 2010-11 season ended by unbeaten and top-seeded Corpus Christi, 39-26, in an Upper Morris County Basketball League semifinal post-season playoff game played at St. Therese in Succasunna on Saturday, Feb. 19, 
      St. Clement (10-3), the No. 4 seed, stayed close to Corpus Christi (12-0) until late in the game when the winners closed with a 14-7 final quarter. The Blue Knights were plagued by an off-night shooting as they finished 8-for-62 from the field nd 6-for-27 from the free-throw line.
     Christian Bornemann led St. Clement with 12 points; Jonathan Opalewski added eight; Alex Russo finished with four points; and Ryan Lampmann had two to complete the scoring for Rockaway Township.
      Opalewski finished with game-high 13 rebounds; Bornemann had 10; Christian Morales added nine; Nicholas Wekilsky and Nick Furciato each had four; and Nico Santoro had three.
   Wekilsky had a team-high six steals and Furciato and Santoro each finished with three.

Blue Knights open playoffs with 27-15 victory
      ROCKAWAY TWP. -
No. 4 seed St. Clement defeated No. 5 seed Our Lady of Mercy/Notre Dame of Whippany, 27-15, in the semifinals of the 5th-grade division of the Upper Morris County CYO Basketball League post-season playoffs at St. Therese in Succasunna on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011.
      The Blue Knights (10-2) opened slowly with a 6-4 lead after the first quarter but increased it lead to 10 points at the half with a 10-2 second quarter run. The teams each scored four points in the third period and the Blue Knights closed with a 7-5 final quarter to establish their 12-point margin of victory.
      Christian Bornemann scored a double-double - 10 points and 10 rebounds - to lead St. Clement; Christian Morales added five points; Nicholas Furciato had four; and Ryan Lampmann, Jonathan Opalewski, Nico Santoro and Nicholas Wekilsky each had two points to complete St. Clement's scoring.
      Christian Morales had eight rebounds; Wekilsky, Opalewski and Furciato each had four; and Lampmann and Santoro each had three.

St. Clement finishes 9-2, gets No. 4 playoff seed

       ROCKAWAY TWP. - The St. Clement Blue Knights junior varsity basketball team warmed up for its division of the Upper Morris County post-season playoffs by playing close to perfect defense in picking up a pair of victories in their last two regular-season games.
      As a result of the two wins, St. Clement (9-2) will take a five-game winning streak into the playoffs where the Blue Knights have been seeded No. 4 and will face No. 5 seed Our Lady of Mercy/Notre Dame (Whippany) on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011, in a game at St. Therese of Succasunna that is scheduled to start at noon.
      St. Clement closed out is regular season on Sunday, Feb. 6, with a 35-14 victory over Our Lady of the Lake (Sparta) at Connery Hall here, a game in which the Blue Knights held Our Lady to no points in both the first and third quarters.
      Nicholas Furciato scored eight points and Christian Bornemann added seven points to lead a balanced Blue Knight attack. Alex Russo, Ryan Lampman, Nico Santoro and Christian Morales each scored four points; and Nick Wekilsky and Jonathan Opalewski each had two points to complete the St. Clement scoring.
      Morales finished with 14 rebounds; Bornemann had five; Wekilsky and Opalweski each had four; Santoro and Lampmann each had three; and Tyler Kaye, Derek Sainz and Russo each had two.
      The week before, on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2010, the Blue Knights played an even tougher defensive game as they shut out St. Luke, 27-0, in another game played at Connery Hall.
      Bornemann scored 10 points; Lampmann added five; Sainz had four; Wekilsky had three; Furciato and Santoro each had two; and Opalewski had a free throw to complete the St. Clement scoring.
      Morales had a team-high eight rebounds; Bornemann finished with five; Wekilsky and Opalewski each had four; Santoro and Lampmann each had three; and Kaye, Russo and Sainz each finished with two.

Morales, Bornemann lead JVs to win over St. Rose

      ROCKAWAY TWP. - The St. Clement boys junior varsity basketball team used a solid game by Christian Morales and a strong defensive effort to defeat St. Rose (Hanover), 32-26, in an Upper Morris County CYO Basketball game played at Connery Hall here on Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011.
     Morales led a balanced Blue Knight scoring attack with nine points, added a game-high eight rebounds, and combined with  Christian Bornemann, Ryan Lampmann and Nicholas Furciato to play a "... shutdown defense throughout the game," according to St. Clement head coach Eric Wekilsky.
      "St. Rose is a good team and the game was close," Wekilsky said after the game. "But our kids played a great game and we were able to hold them off at the end."
      St. Clement (6-2) had a first-period lead of 9-6 and expanded it to 19-12 at the half. St. Rose (6-2)  narrowed the gap to three points at the end of the third quarter but St. Clement closed out the game with a 7-4 fourth-quarter run, finally sealing the game when Nick Wekilsky scored on a driving layup with 12 seconds left to play.
      Bornemann was second-high for the Blue Knights with eight points and Furciato had six points. Jonathan Opalewski finished with five points and Lampmann and Wekilsky each added two points to complete the scoring for St. Clement.
      Bornemann finished with five rebounds; Wekilsky and Opalewski each had four; Nico Santoro and Lampmann each had three; and Tyler Kay, Alex Russo, Derek Sainz nd Bornemann each finished with two.
      Wekilsky, Furciato and Santoro each had a team-high three steals; Lampmann and Bornemann each had two; and Morales and Russo each finished with one.
      The Blue Knights' next game is against St. Luke's on Sunday, Jan. 30, at Connery Hall here at 2:15 p.m.

St. Clement 'steals' victory from Lenape Valley

       ROCKAWAY TWP. - A team defense that resulted in 14 steals boosted the St. Clement Varsity-B Blue Knights boys basketball team to a 23-8 victory over St. Catherine's of Mountain Lakes in an Upper Morris County CYO Basketball League game played at the Wilson School in Mountain Lakes on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011.
       St. Clement held a 6-2 lead after one quarter of the defensive-struggle and then held St. Catherine's (4-2) without a point in the second quarter as the Blue Knights took a 10-2 lead into the halftime break. St. Clement outscored St. Catherine's 13-6 in the second half to put away the game.
      Christian Bornemann and Nicholas Furciato led the St. Clement attack as Bornemann finished with a game-high eight points and Furciato added six points.
       Nico Santoro chipped in with three points; Ryan Lampmann and Christian Morales each scored two points; and Nick Wekilsky and Jonathan Opalewski each added a point to complete the scoring for St. Clement.
       Next up for the Blue Knights is a 3:30 p.m. game on Sunday, Jan. 23, against St. Rose at Connery Hall at St. Clement.

St. Clement balance too much for St. Therese

      ROCKAWAY TWP. - The St. Clement boys junior varsity basketball team combined a balanced scoring attack with solid defense and rebounding to defeat St. Therese (Succasunna), 35-10, in an Upper Morris County CYO Basketball League game played at Connery Hall here in the township on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011.
      The Blue Knights (5-2) shut down St. Therese 13-0 in the first quarter and then increased their lead to 25-2 at the half before slowing down the pace and outscoring their visitors 12-8 in the second half.
      Derek Sainz led all scorers with eight points and Christina Morales and Nick Furciato each chipped in with six for St. Clement. Jonathan Opalewski finished with five points; Christian Bornemann and Ryan Seinhardt each added four; and Nicholas Wekilsky had two points to complete the scoring for the winners.
      Morales and Opalewski each had a game-high seven rebounds as St. Clement dominated the boards. Nico Santoro finished with six; Sainz had five; Wekilsky had four; and Ryan Lampmann and Seinhardt each had three.
      Ryan Lampmann had five steals; Wekilsky and Furciato each had four; and Bornemann finished with two to lead St. Clement's defensive efforts.
      "This was a complete team victory," said Blue Knight head coach Eric Wekilsky after the game. "Everybody had a part of this win."
       St. Clement faces St. Catherine of Mountain Lakes on Sunday, Jan. 16, in a 1:15 p.m. game at the Wilson School in Mountain Lakes.

St. Clement JVs lose to unbeaten Corpus Cristi
       ROCKAWAY TWP. -
The St. Clement junior varsity boys basketball team dropped its second game of the season when Corpus Cristi broke a 19-19 tie at the end of three periods and went on to a 27-23 victory over the Blue Knights in an Upper Morris County CYO Basketball League game played at Connery Hall here on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011.
       "It was a good game ... back and forth all the way," said St. Clement head coach Eric Wekilsky after the game. "Give them credit, though ... they won it on their free throw shooting at the end."
      Christian Bornemann led St. Clement (4-2) in scoring with six points. Ryan Lampmann and Christian Morales each finished with four points; Nick Wekilsky had three points; and Alex Russo, Nico Santoro and Nicholas Furciato each had two to complete the Blue Knight scoring.
       Morales had a team-high four rebounds for St. Clement; Jonathan Opalewski and Wekilsky each had three; and Tyler Kay, Lampmann, Bornemann and Russo each had two.
      Wekilsky finished with four steals; Lampmann and Furciato each had three; and Bornemann, Santoro and Russo each had two.

Second-half rally keys Blue Knights to 30-18 win

      ROCKAWAY TWP. - The St. Clement Blue Knights junior varsity boys used a strong second-half surge to defeat Assumption of Morristown, 30-18, in an Upper Morris County CYO Basketball League game played at the Assumption Annex in Morristown on Sunday, Dec. 19.
       Assumption broke out to a 12-4 lead after one quarter of play, but St. Clement (4-1) came back to outscore the home team 10-2 in the second quarter to send the game into the halftime break tied at 14-14.
      St. Clement, with Christian Bornemann scoring six points and Christian Morales adding four, outscored Assumption 10-4 in the third period to take a 24-18 lead into the final quarter where St. Clement sealed the victory by shutting down Assumption.
      "Assumption got out to a fast start but we held our poise and battled back," said head coach Eric Wekilsky after the game. "Our defense - led by Steven Russo and Ryan Lampmann - sparked our comeback and Christian Morales had a big game on the boards."
      Bornemann led all scorers with 14 points. Ryan Steinhart, Tyler Kay and Morales each finished with four and Nicholas Wekilsky and Nicholas Furiato each added two points.
      Morales had a game-high seven rebounds; Steinhart added four; and Wekilsky and Lampmann each had three. Lampman had five steals; Wekilsky and Furciato each had three; and Bornemann finished with two.
      The Blue Knight will participate inthe Wayne PAL Holiday Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, Dec. 22, and Sunday, Dec. 26, and will return to league play on Sunday, Jan. 2 with a 2:30 p.m. game against Corpus Cristi at Connery Hall at St. Clement.

Big 18-point 2nd-quarter run beats St. Lawarence

       ROCKAWAY - An 18-9 second-quarter run spurred the St. Clement boys junior varsity to a 45-17 victory over St. Lawrence in an Upper Morris County CYO Basketball League game played at Black River Middle School in Chester on Sunday, Dec. 12.
      St. Clement (3-1) held an 8-2 lead after on period of play and then took a 26-11 into the halftime break after its high-scoring second quarter.
     The Blue Knights were led in scoring by Christian Borneman's 11 points. Christian Moralas added seven points; Alex Russo had six; John Opalewski and Nicolas Furciato each had five; Nicholas Wekilski and Derek Sainz each finished with four points; Ryan Lampman scored two points and Ryan Steinhart had a free throw to complete the Blue Knights scoring for the game.
     Opalewski finished with a game-high nine rebounds; Lampman had seven; and Borneman had four. Wekilski, Borneman and Lampman each had three steals as the team finished the game with 19.
