Byrnes scores two goals to help beat Dover, 5-1
- ROCKAWAY TWP. - Team captain Dan Byrnes scored two goals and Matthew Salazar, Nicolo Ricucci and Christopher Grilk each added one when the Rockaway Township Sharks U10 boys travel team defeated the Dover Strikers Spirit, 5-1, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall Field on Sunday, May 22, 2011. Byrnes opened the scoring with an assist from Salazar 10 minutes into the game and Salazar scored with an assist from Byrnes 10 minutes later to give the Sharks a 2-0 lead. Dover scored its only goal of the game five minute later as Rockaway Township took a 2-1 lead at the half. The second half was all Sharks as Byrnes scored his second goal with assists from Patrick Bianchi and Grilk eight minutes into the half; Ricucci scored with an assist from Garret Ciccia 20 minutes into the half; and Grilk rounded out the scoring for the day with an unassisted goal at the 25-minute mark. Trevor Skibicki was in goal for the entire game and was able to combat the muddy field conditions to hold Dover to only one goal. Michael Melhorns and Grilk earned the co-captain honors for the Sharks next competition, which will be in the Randolph Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, May 28-29. --- Madison early goals beat Sharks, 2-0 ROCKAWAY TWP. - The Madison Renegades scored two first-half goals and held on to defeat the Rockaway Township Sharks U10 boys soccer travel team, 2-0, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall Field on Saturday, May 21, 2011. Sharks goalie Trevor Skibicki played a solid game throughout and held the Renegades scoreless in the second half. Garret Ciccia had a strong game on defense and Patrick Bianchi showed some solid midfield play to earn assistant captain roles for the Sharks next game, a 1 p.m. contest against the Dover Strikers Spirit on Sunday, May 22, at the Mall Field. --- Byrnes scores three goals in 4-2 win over Dover ROCKAWAY TWP. - Team captain Dan Byrnes scored a three-goal hat trick and Christopher Grilk added an insurance goal when the Rockaway Township Sharks 10U boys travel team defeated the Dover Strikers Spirit, 4-2, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Dover High School field on Satgurday, May 14, 2011. Byrnes scored on a cross from Matthew Salazar 10 minutes into the game and, after Dover scored 10 minutes later, Byrnes stole a Dover goal kick and sent a 15-yard blast past the Dover keeper at the 25-minute mark to give the Sharks a 2-1 lead at the half. Salazar and Byrnes teamed up again for the Sharks' third goal eight minutes into the second half. Salazar carried the ball past the Dover defense and, after drawing the Dover goalie to him, deftly sent another cross to Byrnes who then finessed the ball into the net. Dover pulled to within a goal with its second score 15 minutes into the second half, but Grilk got that back 20 minutes in when he picked up a loose ball and chipped it over the goalie's head for the Sharks fourth and final goal. Shark keeper Trevor Skibicki finished the game with four saves in a solid effort and got strong defensive support from David Chen, who was able to block several Dover shots with his body. The Sharkes, who improved to 3-1-1 with the victory, face the Madison Renegades next in a 4 p.m. game on Saturday, May 21, at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall Field in the township. Chen and Salazar have been named assistant captains for that game by the Shark coaching staff because of their solid play against Dover. --- Byrnes 2 goals, 2 assists hold off Kinnelon, 4-2 ROCKAWAY TWP. - Daniel Byrnes scored the only two goals of the first half and added two second-half assists when the Rockaway Township Sharks U10 boys travel team beat Kinnelon, 4-2, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game held at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall Field in the township on Sunday, May 1, 2011. Byrnes scored with an assist from Evan Epstein five minutes into the game and then scored again unassisted with time running out in the first half to give the Sharks (2-1-1) a 2-0 lead at the break. Kinnelon got its first goal five minutes into the second half, but Matt Salazar scored with an assist from Byrnes 10 minutes later to restore the Sharks' two-goal lead. After Kinnelon scored again midway through the second half, Eric Ustupski headed in a corner from Byrnes at the 25-minute mark for the final goal of the game. Shark keeper Trevor Skibiki finished the game with eight saves, including three timely stops late in the game when Kinnelon was pressing the attack in an attempt to catch up. The Sharks are scheduled to face the Dover Strikers Spirit next in a 4 p.m. game on Saturday, May 14, at Dover High School. Ustupski's strong play at midfield and his goal late in the game earned the assistant captain honor for the game.--- Bianci scores for Sharks in 2-1 loss to Tornados ROCKAWAY TWP. - Patrick Bianchi scored his team's only goal of the game when the Rockaway Township U10 Sharks boys travel team lost a 2-1 decision to the unbeaten (3-0) Chatham Tornados in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Lum 2 Field in Chatham on Sunday, April 17, 2011.
Bianchi scored his goal in the second half with an assist from Andrew Rodriguez. Evan Epstein and Garret Ciccia will be co-captains for the Sharks' next game in recognition of their "... strong defense play and leadership," Sharks head coach Matthew Bianchi said after the game. The Sharks face the Kinnelon Firepower on Sunday, May 1, in a 1 p.m. game at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall field.
--- Byrnes scored 3 goals as Sharks win, 6-4 ROCKAWAY TWP. - Team captain Daniel Byrnes scored a three-goal hat trick when the Rockaway Township Sharks U10 boys travel team team defeated the Pequannock Thunder, 6-4, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall field on Sunday, April 10, 2011. Brett McCaffrey, Matthew Salazar and Christopher Grilk each added one goal as the Sharks won for the first time after opening the season with a 0-0 standoff against the Madison Renegades. Grilk and Salazar were named the game's top players for the Sharks by the Sharks' coaching staff and will be co-captains for the game against the Chatham Tornadoes scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, at Chatham's Lum Field. --- Sharks, Madison battle to 0-0 deadlock ROCKAWAY TWP. - The Rockaway Township Sharks and Madison Renegades battled to a 0-0 stalemate in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association opening-day game played at the Green Village Road School in Madison on Saturday, April 2, 2011. Sharks goalie Trevor Skibicki stopped everything that came his way and Patrick Bianchi had a solid game at midfield, according to Sharks' head coach Matt Bianchi, who added that Skibicki and Bianchi would be the team's co-captains for the team's game against the Pequannock Thunder on Sunday, April 10.
