Kwestel scores 5 goals

to help top Hanover, 7-4

       ROCKAWAY TWP. - Jason Kwestel scored five goals - including three in the last 6:52 of the game - when the Rockaway Township rallied to beat Hanover, 7-4, in a Morris County Youth Hockey League mites division game at Mennen Arena in Morris Township on Saturday, Nov. 6.
        Rockaway Township entered the final period trailing 3-2 and outscored Hanover 5-1 to cap its comeback victory.
        Kwestel scored the first of the five third-period goals to tie the score at 3-3 with 6:52 to play, but Hanover came right back to take the lead at 4-3 before Dylan Idland pulled Rockaway Township back into a 4-4 tie with his goal with 5:00 to play.
        Kwestel followed with his fourth and fifth goals of the game and Nick Torres scored the game's final goal into an empty net as time was running out.
        Kwestel got the only score of the first period on a short-handed goal, but Hanover came out strong in the second period, scoring two goals in the first 45 seconds. Kwestel's second goal tied the score at 2-2 but Hanover scored again to take a 3-2 lead into the final period of play.
         The score remained 3-2 until Kwestel started the scoring with 6:52 left and, by the time the period had ended, six goals had been scored with Rockaway Township getting the better end of the scoring spree.

            Brandon Reilly was the Rockaway Township goaltender and he finished the game with 13 saves.
         The mites go against Jefferson on Sunday, Nov. 21, at Mennen at 7:15 a.m.

Township rally falls short in 5-4 loss to Chatham-2
        ROCKAWAY TWP.. - Trailing twice by three goals, Rockaway Township came back both times to get within a goal, but the Chatham-2 mites were able to hang on for a 5-4 victory over the Township in a Morris County Youth Hockey League game played at Mennen Arena in Morris County on Saturday, Oct. 30.
       Chatham-2 scored the only two goals in the first period and stretched its lead to 3-0 with a goal early in the second period. Jason Kwestel scored with an assist from Dylan Idland and then Idland scored unassisted to bring Rockaway Township to within a goal a 3-2.
       Chatham-2 scored two more third-period goals and  Ryan Murcer scored unassisted for Rockaway Township as Chatham-2 took a 5-3 lead into the final period.
       The third period was scoreless until Kwestel scored his second goal of the game with two minutes to play and, despite putting on extra pressure, Rockaway Township was unable to score the rest of the game and Chatham-2 was able to hold on for the win.

Hat tricks by Kwestel, Torres spark 12-0 opening-day win

       ROCKAWAY TWP. - Jason Kwestel and Nick Torres scored three-goal hat tricks and Dylan Idland had two goals and an assist when the Rockaway Township Mites beat Long Valley, 12-1, in a Morris County Youth Hockey League season-opening game at Mennen Arena in Morris Township on Saturday, Oct. 23.
       Torres scored all three of his goals in the first period when Rockaway Township took a commanding 7-1 lead. Ryan Wicker, Ashley Gitelman, Sophia Reed and James Betz each scored single goals to complete the scoring.
       Rockaway Township scored all four of its second-period goals in the last four minutes of the period, including a power-play goal by Betz, an even-strength goal by Idland  and two goals by Kwestel to complete his hat trick.
       Idland complted his three-point game by scoring the only goal in third period. 
 Brendan Riley played the entire game in goal for Rockaway Township and finished the game with eight saves, including one on a breakaway early in the second period.
       Rockaway Township's next game in the Mite Division is scheduled for a 1:45 p.m. start on Saturday, Oct. 30, against Chatham-2 at Mennen Arena.
