ROCKAWAY TWP. - Derek Simmons scored four touchdowns and Park Campbell added one when the Rockaway Township Rockets super peewee youth football team beat the Dover Tigers, 32-14, in a Rockaway Township Bowl game played at Peterson Field in the township on Friday night, Nov. 12.
The Rockets took the opening kickoff and needed but two plays from scrimmage to score its first touchdown as Derek Ferguson ran 52-yards to the Dover 6-yard line on the first play from scrimmage and then Simmons took it over from there for his first TD.
After the Rocket defense held Dover on its first possession, Rockaway Township made it 12-0 when Campbell capped a nine-play drive with a 5-yard touchdown run.
Simmons scored a second-quarter touchdown, finishing off an 11-play drive with a 24-yard touchdown run and, after Ferguson ran in the one-point PAT, the Rockets took a 19-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the third period, Simmons scored his third touchdown on an 8-yard run to put the finishing touch on an eight-play scoring drive. Campbell ran in the PAT to give the Rockets a 26-0 lead.
In the final period, Dover scored its 14 points to close the gap to 26-14 and was on the move again into Rockaway Township territory. The drive was halted, however, when a tackle by the Rockets' Scott Wells caused a Dover fumble that was recovered by Richard Friedeman. On the Rockets' second play from scrimmage following the recovery, Simmons broke loose for a 66-yard run for his fourth TD to finish the scoring for the game.
The Rockets rushed for 291 yards as a team in their final game of the season.
On defense, John VanLenten was in on a team-high 12 tackles; Scott Bornemann had six; Tyler Meehan and Wells each had four; and Ferguson, Simmons and Friedman each had three.
Campbell and VanLenten each had interceptions and Freidman had his fumble recovery.

Ferguson, Simmons spark 26-12 victory
ROCKAWAY TWP. - Derek Ferguson and Derek Simmons each scored two touchdowns and ran for one-point PATs to score all the Rockets' points when Rockaway Township beat Randolph, 26-12, in a Morris County Youth Football League super peewee game played at Peterson Field on Saturday, Nov. 6.
Ferguson scored on a four-yard run to give the Rockets a 6-0 lead at the end of the first period and, after Randolph scored to tie the game at 6-6, Simmons returned the ensuing kickoff 70 yards for the TD that put the Rockets ahead for good. Ferguson added the one-point conversion on a run to give the Rockets a 13-6 lead at the half.
After a scoreless third period, Ferguson scored on a 47-yard run with Simmons running for the PAT and Simmons scored on a 65-yard run to offset Randolph's final TD.
The Rockets finished the game with 294 rushing yards.
On defense, John VanLenten was in on a team-leading 14 tackles; Ryan Lampman had 10 tackles; Thomas Cicchetti finished with seven; Derek Ferguson, Scott Bornemann and Scott Wells each had six; Richard Freidman had five; and Tyler Meehan finished with four. Colin Sweeney recovered a Randolph fumble.
The super peewees will face Dover on Friday, Nov. 12, at 8 p.m. in the seventh annual Rockaway Township Bowl that will be held at Peterson Field Friday-Saturday, Nov. 12-13.

ROCKAWAY TWP. - Derek Simmon's fourth-quarter touchdown run gave the Rockaway Township Rockets super peewee team a come-from-behind 26-20 victory over the Morristown Junior Colonials in a Morris County Youth Football League game played at Morristown on Saturday, Oct. 30.
Trailing 20-19 going into the final quarter, the Rockets went on a 17-play drive that ended when Simmons crashed over from the 1-yard line for the winning TD. Thomas Cicchetti completed the scoring when he ran in for the extra point.
Earlier, Anthony Flammia scored on a 55-yard touchdown run up the middle on the Rockets' second play from scrimmage. Parker Campbell ran in for the extra point and the Rockets held a 7-0 lead.
The Rockets defense took the ball over on downs after the ensuing kickoff and added another quick score when Campbell broke free for a 44-yard touchdown run on the fourth play of the possession.
Morristown came back, however, scoring a touchdown in the second period to cut the Rockets halftime lead to 13-6.
Ryan Lampmann scored on an 8-yard run in the third period but Morristown moved out to a 20-19 lead by scoring two more TDs complete with extra-point runs.
Staying with its potent ground game, the Rockets ate up yardage and the clock with its game-winning drive that was capped by Simmons' 1-yard TD run.
The Rockets finished the game with 325 yards total rushing.
On defense, John VanLenten finished with a team-high eight tackles; Lampman added six; Derek Ferguson finished with five; and Scott Bornemann and Cicchetti each had four.

Flammia, Ferguson TDs lift Rockets, 41-31
ROCKAWAY TWP. - Anthony Flammia scored three touchdowns and Derek Ferguson added two when the Rockaway Township Rocket super peewees beat the Twin Boro Bears, 41-31, in a wild Morris County Youth Football League game played at Mendham on Saturday, Oct. 23.
Ferguson opened the scoring for the Rockets with a 75-yard touchdown run; Flammia added a 4-yard touchdown run; and, Flammia scored on a 70-yard runback of Twin Boro's kickoff following their second TD as the Rockets took a 21-12 lead in a high-scoring first quarter.
Parker Campbell had the only TD of the second period when he scored on a 10-yard run to give the Rockets a 28-12 lead at the half.
Twin Boro added six points in the third period to cut the lead to 28-18 going into the final period where both teams finished by scoring 13 fourth-quarter points.
Ferguson scored his second TD of the game on a 60-yard run and Flammia scored his third TD of the game on a 36-yard run in the final period.
Campbell ran in three one-point PATs and Ferguson added two to complete the scoring for the Rockets, who finished the game with 361 yards total rushing.
On defense, Ryan Lampman had a team high seven tackles; Scott Bornemann finished with six; Marc-Anthony Prophete and Thomas Cicchetti each had five; John VanLentin and Richard Freideman each finished with four; and Wade Drugac, Campbell, and Ferguson each had three.

Ferguson's two TDs lift Rockets, 12-6
ROCKAWAY TWP. - Derek Ferguson scored touchdowns in each of the first two quarters to lead the Rockaway Township Rockets to a 12-6 victory over Roxbury in a Morris County Youth Football League super peewee game played at Roxbury on Saturday, Oct. 16.
Ferguson scored on a 55-yard run in the first period and added a 63-yard touchdown run in the second period to finish the Rockets' scoring for the day.
Roxbury got on the board in the third period to spoil the Rockets' bid for a shutout.
Scott Borneman had a team-high nine tackles for the game; Ferguson had eight; John Van Lentin finished with six; and Derek Simmons and Anthony Flammia each had four.
Simmons and Borneman each recovered fumbles, Simmons on the Rockets' kickoff after their second TD and Borneman when a tackle by Anthony Flammia caused a Roxbury fumble.
The super peewees next game is schduled for Saturday, Oct. 23, against the Twin Boro Bears in a game at Peterson Field at 8:30 p.m.

Rockets turn back Mount Olive, 28-0
ROCKAWAY TWP. - The Rockaway Township Rockets super peewee team defeated the Mount Olive Red team, 28-0, in a Morris County Youth Football League game played at Mount Olive's Turkey Brook Park on Saturday, Oct. 9.
Derek Ferguson scored two TDs and Anthony Flammia and Derek Simmons each scored once as the Rockets (6-0) finished with 297 rushing yards for the game.
The defense made the first stand of the game, stopping a Mount Olive 14-play drive on downs deep in Rockaway Township territory.
It took the Rockets only five plays to score with Ferguson racing 39 yards for a TD andParker Campbell running for the extra point.
Flammia had a 53-yard run on the Rockets' third possession and Campbell ran for another PAT as Rockaway Township took a 14-0 lead at the half, a half that ended with cornerback Scott Borneman intercepting a pass to halt another Mount Olive scoring threat.
Ferguson's 41-yard TD run was the only scoring in the third period and Simmons accounted for the final eight points of the game in the final quarter when he scored on a 45-yard run and also kicked the two-point conversion following his TD.
Thomas Cicchetti had a team-high six tackles to lead the defensive effort that produced the team's second straight shutout. Ferguson and Borneman each added five tackles; Flammia had four; and Campbell and Simmons each had three.
The super peewees next game is against Roxbury on Friday, Oct. 15, at Peterson Field at 8 p.m.

Ferguson 3 TDs, defense stop Falcons, 26-0
ROCKAWAY TWP. - Derek Ferguson scored three touchdowns and Derek Simmons added one when the Rockaway Township Rocket super peewee team stopped Jefferson, 26-0, in a Morris County Youth Football League game played at Jefferson on Friday, Oct. 1.
Ferguson scored on runs of 42, 4 and 12 yards and Simmons scored on a 10-yard run as the Rockets gained 183 yards rushing as a team. Anthony Flammia and Ferguson scored on one-point conversion runs to complete the scoring for the Rockets.
Anthony Flammia had six tackles as the Rocket defense came up with yet another shutout for the season. Ferguson had four tackles and Scott Borneman and Colin Sweeney each finished with three.
The next game for the peewees is a 10 a.m. game against the Mount Olive Marauders at Mount Olive on Saturday, Oct. 9.

Simmons, Howell TDs help beat Broncos
ROCKAWAY TWP. - Derek Simmons and Nate Howell each scored two touchdowns as the Rockaway Township Rocket super peewees beat the Montville Broncos, 33-6, in a Morris County Youth Football League game at Montville on Saturday, Sept. 25.
Derek Ferguson scored the first TD of the game on a 13-yard run and Parker Campbell, Thomas Cicchetti and Ferguson added one-point conversion runs to comlete the scoring for the Rockets, who gained 174 yards rushing for the game.
Simmons scored on runs of 13 and 24 yards and Howell's scoring runs were of 13 yards and 40 yards.
The defense didn't allow a score until the final quarter as Anthony Flammia led the way with eight tackles and one fumble recovery. Kyle Burns, Ferguson and Howell each finished with three tackles.

Lampman, Ferguson, Flammia TDs lift Rockets
ROCKAWAY TWP. - Ryan Lampman, Derek Ferguson and Anthony Flammia scored TDs when the Rockaway Township Rockets defeated Somerset Hills, 20-7, in a Morris County Youth Football League super peewee game held at Somerset Hills on Friday, Sept. 18.
The Rockets took the opening kickoff and moved 53 yards on 11 plays with Thomas Cicchetti's 26-yard run to the Somerset one-yard line setting up Lampman's scoring plunge. Derek Simmons added the extra point and Rockaway Township led, 7-0.
A six-play 50-yard drive resulted in the Rockets' second TD in the second quarter. Cicchetti caught a 9-yard pass for a first down to keep alive a drive that was capped by Ferguson's 22-yard touchdown run.
The Rockets' final TD came in the third period and was set up by a Cicchetti, who intercepted a Somerset Hills pass and returned it 23 yards to the Somerset 30-yard line and Flammia went over on the very next play.
Nate Howell scored the PAT for the Rockets' final point of the game and a 20-0 lead, a lead that lasted until Somerset scored its only points of the game in the final quarter.
The Rockets gained 176 total yards - 167 on the ground.
On defense, Scott Borneman recovered a fumble; Cicchetti had his interception; and Parker Campbell and Ferguson each had a team-leading four tackles; and Flammia and Lampman each had three.

Defense leads the way as Super PeeWees win opener
ROCKAWAY TWP. - Ryan Lampman and Richard Freideman each finished with double-digits tackle totals and the Rockaway Township Rockets super peewee team had two successful goal-line stands to beat Long Valley, 13-7, in a Morris County Youth Football League opener for both teams at Long Valley on Friday, Sept. 10.
Derek Ferguson scored both touchdowns and Parker Campbell had the PAT to account for the Rockets' scoring.
Lampman finished with 12 tackles and Freideman had 10 as the Rockets defense stopped Long Valley on the Rocket 5-yard line on downs in the first quarter and again late in the second quarter when Wade Drugac recovered a fumble to stop a Long Valley drive that had reached the Rocket 7-yard line.
Derek Simmons finished the game with eight tackles and Anthony Flammia and Thomas Cicchett each had five.
Ferguson's 34-yard touchdown run in the second quarter accounted for the only points of the first half. Long Valley took a 7-6 lead with a third-quarter TD and PAT and Ferguson put the Rockets back into the lead for good with an 11-yard TD run followed by Campbel's PAT.
The game ended with Campbell completing a 90-yard run by being taken down on the Long Valley 4-yard line. The Rockets rushed for 308 yards as a team.
