ROCKAWAY TWP. - Doug Dolan called the game "... a tremendous effort by two teams of champions" ... and he is the head coach for the team that lost.
Dolan is the head coach of the RockDen Renegades 7th/8th grade girls lacrosse team that lost a thrilling 12-11 decision to Chester-Mendham in the championship game of the ISP Winter Lacrosse League played on Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Indoor Sports Pavilion in Randolph.
RockDen led most of the game with Chester-Mendham tying the game at 11-11 on a goal with 90 seconds to play and then scoring the game winner with only 25 seconds left in the game.
The game was the final game of the season for RockDen and the loss snapped a five-game winning streak. The Lady Renegades were 1-3 after the first four games before closing out with a 5-1 mark to finish at 6-4.
"The game was a fine finish to a fine season," Dolan said. "Our defense played well against a tenacious attack and Lexi Finn was again solid in goal.
"The game was as fast paced as any you see indoors with constant transition and excitement. Both teams let it all out on the field and put forth a tremendous effort."
Jacie Cooper and Maeve Krueger each scored four goals and Stephanie Hughes added three to account for all 11 of the Lady Renegades’ goals. Cooper also had two assists and Casey Lyness had one assist.
Finn finished with 15 saves and got plenty of defensive support from the backline consisting of Erin Dolan, Taylor Madden, Shayna McMahon, Samantha Stanziale and Kristen McCauley.

Scoring balance, solid defense lead to playoff win
ROCKAWAY TWP. - The RockDen 7th/8th grade girls travel lacrosse team came up with its biggest victory of the Randolph Indoor Sports Pavilion Winter Lacrosse League season when the Lady Renegades beat top-seed Glen Ridge, 11-7, in a semifinal post-season tournament playoff game at the pavilion on Saturday, Feb. 20.
The Lady Renegades, the tournament's No. 4 seed, improved to 6-3 and will now face No. 3 seed Chester/Mendham, which beat No. 2 seed Mountain Lakes 12-8 in the other semifinal, in the title game on Saturday, Feb. 27, at the pavilion at a time that has yet to be determined.
RockDen and Chester/Mendham met once before in the regular season and Chester/Mendham won, 13-8.
Glen Ridge fell to 7-2 with the loss while Chester/Mendham is 6-2-1 and Mountain Lakes 5-4.
RockDen's scoring balance and team defense once again made the difference in this tournment victory.
Jacie Cooper scored three goals and Molly Reichhard, Maeve Krueger and Ally Black each scored twice. Stephanie Hughes and Samantha Stanziale each scored once to complete the goal scoring for the Lady Renegades.
Black also had two assists while Shannon Dolan, Shayna McMahon, Candy Tanis, Carly Ellis, Jamie Barrett, Hughes, Reichhard and Krueger each had one.
With RockDen leading, 8-4, Glen Ridge came up with a three-goal flurry to pull to within a goal with five minutes left to play.
Stanziale scored her only goal of the game with 3:30 left to put the RockDen cushion back to two goals and then the Lady Renegades followed with two unanswered goals to seal the 11-7 victory.
Lexi Finn had a solid day in goal for RockDen, finishing with 10 saves and getting plenty of support from the defensive backline consisting of Erin Dolan, Taylor Madden, McMahon, Stanziale, Tanis and Ellis.
"Wildcat" defenders Kristen McCauley and Cooper provided the first line of defense at midfield while Denise Weir, Dina Cicchine and Dolan put pressure on the Glen Ridge defenders and goaltender whenever they got possession of the ball in the RockDen attack zone.

Lady Renegades beat Randolph in first-round playoff game
ROCKAWAY TWP. - The RockDen Lady Renegades lacrosse team received two-goal efforts from four players and a solid defensive effort led by the first-half shutout goaltending of Ally Black to beat Randolph, 9-5, in a first-round playoff game in the Indoor Sports Pavilion�s Winter Lacrosse League on Saturday, Feb. 6.
The victory puts the Lady Renegades into the tournament semifinals which will be held on Saturday, Feb. 20, at the Pavilion against an opponent and at a time that have yet to be determined.
Kristen McCauley, Maeve Krueger, Stephanie Hughes and Molly Reichhard each scored two goals and Taylor Madden scored her first goal of the season for the Lady Renegades.
Erin Dolan, Shayna McMahon, Candy Tanis, Jacie Cooper, Lexi Finn, Hughes, Reichhard and Madden each had one assist in the game.
Black finished the game with 12 saves and stopped all eight shots she saw in the first half as the Renegades bolted out to a 5-0 lead at the break. Black also had plenty of help from a defensive corps that saw a lot of players being rotated into play throughout the game.
Samantha Stanziale, Gena Blewett, Finn, Dolan, Madden, McMahon, Tanis and Reichhard had solid games on the backline and Cooper and McCauley also played another strong game in the "Wildcat" position, the first line of defense for the Lady Renegades.

Cooper, Krueger hat tricks lead RockDen

Lexi Finn was in goal the entire game for RockDen and finished with nine assists. She got plenty of defensive help from Taylor Madden, ShaynaMcMahon Dina Cicchine, Samantha Stanziale, Brianna Valletta, Candy Tanis, Carly Ellis, Jaimie Barrett, Casey Lyness and Dolan.
Shannon Dolan, Denise Weir and Gena Blewett applied constant defensive pressure from the attack position and Molly Reichhard, although held scoreless, also had a strong game on attack.

Cooper, Hughes hat tricks beat Mtn. Lakes
ROCKAWAY TWP. - Jacie Cooper and Stephanie Hughes each scored a three-goal a hat trick on Saturday, Jan. 23, when the RockDen Lady Renegades defeated Mountain Lakes, 9-7, in a girls indoor lacrosse game played at the Indoor Sports Pavilion in Randolph Township.
The Lady Renegades, who now have a record of 3-3 for the season, took a 5-3 lead into the halftime break and the two teams each scored four goals to create the final score.
Molly Reichhard, Maeve Krueger and Casey Lyness each scored one goal for the Lady Renegades.
Ally Black finished the game with three assists while Carly Ellis, Reichhard and Cooper each had one.
Lexi Finn was in goal for the Lady Renegades and finished the game with nine saves. She had plenty of help from a defense corps consisting of Kristen McCauley, Shayna McMahon, Candy Tanis, Taylor Madden, Erin Dolan, Jamie Barett, Carley Ellis and Black.
"The defense was rock solid today and successful in working their double-teams," said RockDen coach Doug Dolan after the game. "They helped protect Lexi in goal and that was big in keeping Mountain Lakes well below double-figures in goals."
The Lady Renegades next game is Saturday, Jan. 30, against Randolph at the Sports Pavilion at 1 p.m.

Reichhard has three goals in 13-8 loss
ROCKAWAY TWP. - The RockDen Lady Renegades 7-8 Grade lacrosse team lost a 13-8 decision to county and state power Mendham/Chester in a winter lacrosse indoor league game played at the Sports Pavilion in Randolph Township on Saturday, Jan. 18.
The Lady Renegades fell behind 8-3 at the half and, despite playing even with the winners in the second half, couldn�t cut into the five-goal lead Mendham/Chester had built.
Molly Reichhard had three goals and Ally Black had two goals and two assists to lead the scoring for RockDen.
Jacie Cooper finished with a goal and an assist; Kristen McCauley and Casey Lyness each had one goal; and Lexi Finn and Samantha Stanziale each had one assist.
Maeve Krueger was in goal for the Lady Renegades and finished with 11 saves.
The next game for the Lady Renegades is against Mountain Lakes and is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Sports Pavilion.

Krueger's four goals help RockDen beat Randolph
ROCKAWAY TWP. - Maeve Krueger scored four times and Erin Dolan scored a pair of goals as the RockDen Lady Renegades defeated Randolph, 10-7, in a girls indoor lacrosse game at the Indoor Sport Pavilion in Randolph on Saturday, Jan. 9.
Jacie Cooper, Molly Reichhard, Stephanie Hughes and Casey Lyness each scored a goal to roundout the Lady Renegades goal-scoring for the game.
Ally Black and Cooper each had two asissts, with both of Black�s assists coming from behind the net to cutting attackers. Kristen McCauley and Reichhard each had one assist.
Lexi Finn had a solid outing in goal for RockDen, stopping nine shots. She got plenty of help from a defense that included the strong play of Cooper and McCauley.
Next up for the Lady Renegades is a game against Chester/Mendham that is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 16, at the sports pavilion at noon.

Lady Renegades lose 11-10 decision to Mtn. Lakes
ROCKAWAY TWP. - Maeve Krueger scored six goals and added an assist and Ally Black finished with one goal and four assists as the RockDen Lady Renegades 7th-8th grade lteam dropped an 11-10 decision to Mountain Lakes in a Winter Lacrosse League game played at the Indoor Sports Pavilion in Randolph Township on Saturday, Dec. 12.
RockDen, which slipped to 1-1 with the loss, bolted out to an 8-4 halftime lead only to see Mountain Lakes come charging back to outscore the Lady Renegades 7-2 in the second half and cap their comeback by scoring the winning goal in the final minute of play.
Molly Reichhard, Samantha Stanziale and Candis Tanis also scored goals for the Lady Renegades while Jacie Cooper finished with three assists and Erin Dolan added one.
Lexi Finn was in goal for the entire game and finished with 10 saves.

Lady Renegades beat Summit Gold in winter season opener
ROCKAWAY TWP. - The RockDen Renegades 7/8 grade girls lacrosse team opened its winter season on a winning note by beating the Summit Gold, 10-7, in a Randolph Indoor Sports Pavilion League game played in Randolph on Saturday, Dec. 5.
Maeve Krueger led the scoring with two goals and two assists and Molly Reichhard and Stephie Hughes each added two goals for the Lady Renegades. Ally Black, Erin Dolan, Kristen McCauley and Jacie Cooper each added one goal and Shannon Dolan, Black, Hughes and McCauley each finished with one assist.
Lexi Finn was in goal for the entire game for RockDen and finished with 14 saves. She had five saves in the first half when the Lady Renegades jumped out to a 5-1 and then stopped nine shots in the second half when Summit made its move, closing to within three goals at one point late in the game.
"The game started out tight and it was 1-1 when we seemed to kick it up a notch and suddenly it was 5-1 at the half," said RockDen assistant coach John Murphy after the game. "We told told the girls before the game to work on their fundamentals, especially their passing ... and they did.
"We came out in the second half and started to work more on our passing more ... I told the girls to make three passes and, if there was no shot available, to bring the ball back out and start again.
"I think we let them back into the game while we were concentrating on our passing but Finn made some very good saves - two were point-blank - down the stretch. With about two minutes left, Cooper took a pass from Krueger, turned on the burners, and scored to ice the game.
"All in all, we got a lot of work done and also won the game ... it was a nice start to the indoor season."
