DENVILLE - Brian and Jessica Stiles got a taste of swimming on "the big stage" when the brother and sister duo from Morris Knolls competed in the NJSIAA Swimming Meet of Champions this past weekend.
The season-ending high school competition was held on Saturday and Sunday, March 6-7, at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Sewell.
Brian, a sophomore, qualified for two M of C races and finished 20th in the 500-yard freestyle preliminary on Saturday with a time of 4:55.52 and placed 21st in the 200 free prelim with a time of 1:49.03.
Jessica, a freshman, also qualified for two individual races and finshed 20th in the 50 free in 25.37 and was 31st in the 100 free with a time of 56.68.
Swimmers finishing in the top eight places of each individual race qualified for Sunday’s championship final while swimmers finishing 9th through 16th qualifed for Sunday’s consolation final.

Knolls falls to Columbia in state sectional
DENVILLE - The Morris Knolls High School boys swim team lost a 100-70 decision to Columbia in a quarterfinal-round meet held at the County College of Morris in Randolph Township on Friday, Feb. 12, and was eliminated from the Public A, North 1 state sectional tournament.
Morris Knolls, the No. 5 seed in the eight-team section, won but two races in the meet as senior Cortland Schroth captured the 100-yard freestyle in 54.63 and sophomore Brian Stiles touched first in the 500 free with a time of 5:21.97.
The loss put the Eagles at 7-4 for the season while Columbia, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, improved to 7-1.

Eagles 7th in NJAC meet; Stiles wins four medals
DENVILLE - Sophomore Brian Stiles repeated his county meet medal-count performance as he won two medals and anchored two medal-winning relay teams as the Morris Knolls High School boys swim team placed seventh in the 23-team field at the first Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference Swim Championships held at Sussex Tech in Sparta on Sunday, Feb. 7.
Morris Knolls finished with 75 points in a meet that was dominated by team champion Mountain Lakes, which scored 232 points to runnerup Chatham’s 183. Randolph (122 points), Kinnelon (119) and Morristown (106) rounded out the top five teams.
The rest of the field, in order of finish: 6. Jefferson (79); 7. Morris Knolls (75); 8. Mendham (73); 9. Delbarton (60); 10. Parsippany Hills (54); 11. West Morris (44); 12. High Point, Parsippany and Mount Olive (tie, 20); 15. Morris Catholic (19); 16. Pope John and Boonton (tie, 17); 18. Sparta (15); 19. Morris Hills (10); 20. Pequannock (9); 21. Vernon (6); 22. Montville and Park (tie, 3).
The top six finishers in each race earned medals; the top 12 finishers in each race earned team points.
Stiles won his individual medals in the two longer freestyle races, placing second in the 500-meter free with a time of 4:15.18, less than a second off the winning time of 4:14.37 posted by Tyler Poling of Morristown; and finishing fourth in the 200 free with a time of 2:03.01.
The Eagles placed third in the 200 free relay with freshman Jared Huston, junior Zach Bakun, senior Cortland Schroth and Stiles posting a time of 1:46.13.
The Eagles final medal of the meet came in the 400 free when Jared Huston, Bakun, Schroth and Stiles finished sixth with a time of 1:04.88.
Schroth got the remaining team points for the Eagles when he finished eighth in the 50 free with a time of 26.37 and then came back to place ninth in the 100 free in 59.19.
In other races: Jared Huston finished 16th in the 200 IM; Bakun was 18th and senior Taylor Isenberg 30th in the 50 free; senior Cory Brenner was 40th in the 100 fly; senior Joseph Beckman was 26th in the 100 free; Derek Huston was 30th in the 100 breaststroke; and the team of Bakun, the brothers Huston, and Isenberg finished 14th in the 200 medley relay.

Stiles wins four medals as MK places 7th in county meet
DENVILLE - Sophomore Brian Stiles won four medals that led to 73 points as Morris Knolls High School finished seventh in the 17-team field at the Morris County Swim Championships held at Morristown High School on Saturday, Jan. 30.
Stiles finished first in the 400-meter freestyle, second in the 200 free and anchored two point-producing relay teams for the Eagles.
With Brian’s sister Jessica, a freshman, winning three medals on the girls side, the medal count at the Stiles household stands at seven for the 2010 county meet.
Morris Knolls finished the meet with 82 points, well off the 246.5 total accumulated by team champion Mountain Lakes. Chatham was the runnerup with 186 points; Morristown was third with 137; Kinnelon finished fourth with 114 points; and Randolph was fifth with 105 points to round out the top five finishers.
The rest of the field, in order of finish: 6. Mendham (84), 7. Morris Knolls (82), 8. Jefferson (76.5), 9. Parsippany Hills 69, 10. Delbarton 67.5, 11. West Morris 42, 12. Parsippany 34.5, 13. Park (18), 14. Montville 15. Mount Olive 12, 16. Pequannock 11, 17. Roxbury 2.
Medals went to the top six finishers in each race and team points were scored by the 12 fastest swimmers or teams in each event.
Stiles won the 400-meter freestyle in 4:15.68 - tying his personal best in the event - almost three seconds faster than runnerup Brendan Crystal of Parsippany Hills.
Stiles posed a time of 2:01.85 in the 200 free to finish second to defending champ Michael McElduff, a junior who finished in 1:57.91, a time that was 2:09 seconds better than his 2009 time.
Cortland Schroth won team points for the Eagles in two races. He finished eighth in the 100 free with a time of 58.69 for five team points and placed 10th in the 200 free with a time of 2:10.96 to add another three points to the Knolls team total.
Derek Huston picked up a team point with his 12th-place finish in the 100 fly in 1:07.68.
In other races: Huston finished 15 in the 200 IM; Zach Bakun was 18th, Taylor Isenberg finished 28th, Joseph Beckman was 31st and Huston 33rd in the 50 free; Beckman was 29th in the 100 free; John Vreeland was 24th in 400 free; Bakun was 17th and Andy Plucinsky 25th in the 100 back and Huston finished 28th and Paul Rankin was 29th in the 100 breaststroke; and the team of Plucinsky, Huston, Bakun and Taylor Isenberg finished 16th in the 200 medley relay

Schroth, Bakun, Stile lead Eagles to win over Montville
DENVILLE - Cortland Schroth, Zach Bakun and Brian Stiles each won one race and swam on two winning relay teams as the Morris Knolls defeated Montville, 100-69, in a high school boys swim meet at the Lakeland Hills YMCA in Mountain Lakes on Wednesday, Jan. 27.
Schroth won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:04.95; Bakun won the 50 free in 24.33; and Stiles won the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.61.
Stiles also anchored both of the Eagles winning relay times as he swam with Jared Huston, Bakun and Schroth to win the 200 free relay in 1:34.80 and teamed with Joe Beckman, Bakun and Schroth to win the 400 free relay in 3:53.32.
Other victories for the Eagles were by John Vreeland, who won the 500 free in 6:10.25; Andy Plucinsky, who won the 100 back in 1:09.13; and Huston, who won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:14.79.

Stiles wins long-distance freestyle races at Ealge win
DENVILLE - Brian Stiles had a hand in all four of Morris Knolls' winning races on Friday, Jan. 22, when the Eagles beat Delbarton, 94-75, in a high school boys swim meet at the Morristown-Beard School pool in Morristown.
Stiles won both of the freestyle distance events, taking the 200-yarder race in 2:08.01 and touching first in the 500 with a time of 4:33.64.
Stiles also anchored the Eagles two winning relay races. He swam with Taylor Isenberg, Derek Huston and Cortland Schroth to win the 200 free relay and then came back to win the 400 relay with Jared Huston, Zach Bakun and Schroth).
The win gave Morris Knolls a season record of 6-2; Delbarton slipped to 2-4.

Eagles overwhelm Mount Olive, 128-42
DENVILLE - Brian Stiles doubled and anchored one of the three winning relay teams as the Morris Knolls boys swim team defeated Mount Olive, 128-42, at the County College of Morris in Randolph Township on Wednesday, Jan. 20.
Stiles won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:14.53 and then captured the 100 back in 1:01.54 for his two victories.
Morris Knolls won nine of the 11 races on the card as the Eagles improved their season record to 5-2. Mount Olive is winless in four meets this season.
Individual winners for the Eagles included:
John Vreeland, who won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:15.19; Zach Bakun, who won the 100 fly in 1:06.48; Jared Huston, who won the 500 free in 5:42.40; and Paul Rankin, who touched first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:14.19.
In the relays, Stiles anchored the winning 400 free relay team that included Huston, Bakun and Cortland Schroth and was timed in 3:36.72.
In the 200 medley relay, Bakun, Derek Huston, Jared Huston and Schroth won in 1:57.40 and in the 200 free relay, Derek Huston, Ryan Hanright, Bakun and Taylor Isenberg won in 1:43.97.

Eagles sweep card in beating Morris Hills, 122-48
DENVILLE - Morris Knolls made it a clean sweep in beating sister-school Morris Hills, 122-48, in a high school boys swim meet at the County College of Morris in Randolph Township on Thursday, Jan. 14.
Knolls, which improved to 4-2 with the win, won all 11 races on the card and finished 1-2 in five of the events. Morris Hills slipped to 2-3 with the loss.
Cortland Schroth, Jared Huston and Brian Stiles each won two individual races and each also participated in two the three Knolls� winning relay races to lead the way for the Eagles.
Schroth won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.99 and the 100 free in 54.56. Jeffrey Vreeland was second in the 200 in 2:16.37 and Cory Brenner was the runnerup to Schroth in the 100 with a time of 1:00.12.
Jared Huston won the 200 IM in 2:13.91 and also captured the 100 fly in 1:00.65.
Stiles won the 50 free in 23.31 with teammate Joe Beckmann second in 25.11 and then went long distance to win the 500 free with a time of 5:10.88.
In other individual races, Zach Bakun won the 100 back in 1:03.13 and Derek Huston and Paul Rankin Jr. finished 1-2 in the 100 breaststroke with Huston posting a winning time of 1:15.14 and Rankin not much more than a half-second back in 1:15.72.
In the relays, Knolls finished 1-2 in the 200 freestyle relay with Taylor Isenberg, Jared Huston, Schroth and Stiles winning in 1:38.99 and the quartet of Beckmann, Derek Huston, Tyler Furman and Tom Hanright second in 1:45.54.
The Eagles also captured the 200-yard medley relay when Bakun, Derek Huston, and Isenberg clocked a winning time of 1:35.95 and later won the 400-yard free relay when Jared Huston, Bakun, Schroth and Stiles finished in 3:50.09.

Knolls three-meet streak ends with loss to Randolph
DENVILLE - The Morris Knolls High School boys swim team had its three-meet winning streak broken Thursday (Jan. 7) when the Eagles lost a 103-67 decision to Randolph at the County College of Morris pool in Randolph Township.
Brain Stiles won two individual races and anchored Knolls' winning 400-yard freestyle relay team to lead the way for the Eagles (3-2).
Stiles won the 200 free in 1:49.83 and then came back to win the 500 free with a time of 5:28.00.
Other individual wins for Knolls went to Cortland Schroth, who won the 50 free with a time of 23.57; and Zach Bakun, who won the 100 back in 1:03.28.
Jared Huston, Bakun, Schroth and Stiles combined to win the 400 free relay with a time of 3:45.78.
Eagles swamp West Morris for third straight win
DENVILLE - Brian Stiles and Jared Huston each won two races and Stiles anchored two winning relay teams to lead the Morris Knolls boys swim team to a 102-68 victory over West Morris in a high school swim meet at the County College of Morris in Randolph on Wednesday, Dec. 23.
The victory was the third straight for the Eagles since they opened the season with a loss to county-power Morristown.
Stiles won the 200-yard IM in 2:10.69 and the 100 free in 53.98 and Jared Huston won the 200 free in 2:01.57 and the 100 fly in 1:00.69.
In other individual victories, Zach Bakun won the 100 back in 1:03.11 and Derek Huston won the 50 free in 26.12.
The Eagles also won two of the three relay races on the card as Joe Beckman, Bakun, Jared Huston and Stiles combined to win the 400 free relay in 4:05.68 and Beckman, Derek Huston, Taylor Isenberg and Stile teamed up to win the 200 free relay in 1:45.03.
The meet was the season-opener for West Morris.
MK defeats Roxbury behind Stiles, J. Huston and Schroth
DENVILLE - Brian Stiles, Jared Huston and Cortland Schroth each won two individual races and swam on two winning relay teams as the Morris Knolls High School boys swim team defeated Roxbury, 109-61, at the County College of Morris pool in Randolph Township on Thursday, Dec. 17.
Stiles won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.91 and took the 100 free in 49.76; Jared Huston won the 200 IM in 2:20.81 and the 100 back in 1:04.11; and Schroth won the 50 free in 23.12 and the 500 free in 5:30.20.
Stiles, Schroth, Jared Huston and Zach Bakun won the 400 free relay with a time of 3:54.94; Stiles teamed with Derek Huston, Joe Beckman and Taylor Isenberg to win the 200 free relay in 1:43.71; and Schroth, Bakun and the brothers Huston won the 200 medley relay in 1:54.20.
Morris Knolls, which improved to 2-1 with the victory, won 10 of the 11 events on the card with Jared Huston taking first place in the 200 IM in 2:20.81.
Roxbury slipped to 0-2.
Knolls tops Parsippany behind Stiles, Huston and Schroth
DENVILLE - Brian Stiles, Jared Huston and Cortland Schroth each won two races and competed on two winning relay teams as the Morris Knolls High School boys swim team defeated Parsippany, 121-48, on Thursday, Dec. 10, at the County College of Morris pool in Randolph Township.
Stiles won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.18 and took the 100 free in 53.10. He also anchored the Eagles' winning 200 free team with Derek Huston, Joe Beckman and Taylor Isenberg (1:44.44) and then anchored the winning 400 free relay team of Jared Huston, Zach Bakun and Schroth (3:57.79).
Jared Huston won the 200 IM in 2:11.94 and took the 100 back in 1:04.64. He swam third leg on the winning medley relay team (1:53.91) with Bakun, Derek Huston and Schroth and swam the lead leg on the winning 400 free relay team (3:57.79) with Bakun, Schroth and Stiles.
Schroth captured the 50 free in 5:49.71 and then came back to win the 500 free in 5:49.71. He anchored the Eagles' 200 medley relay team and swam the third leg on the 400 free relay team.
Cory Brenner and Derek Huston also won individual races for the Eagles, Brenner touching first in the 100 fly in 1:10.38 and Huston winning the 100 breaststroke with time of 1:16.43.
The loss was Parsippany's second in as many meets.
Knolls drops opener to strong Morristown team
DENVILLE - Sophomore Brian Stiles won two individual races and anchored two winning relay races as the Morris Knolls High School boys swim team opened its 2009-2010 season with a 108-62 loss to Morristown at Morristown on Tuesday, Dec. 8.
Stiles won the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2:25.32 and captured his second individual race when he touched first in the 500 free in 4.20.26.
Stiles anchored the Eagles winning 200 free and 400 free relay teams. Jared Huston, Joe Beckman and Cortland Schroth swam the first three legs of the 200 free that Knolls won in 1:50.31 and Huston, Zach Bakun and Schroth teamed with Stiles to win the 400 free in 4:09.88.
Schroth won the only other individual race for the Eagles, touching first in 59.55 to win the 100 free.
