DENVILLE - The Morris Knolls High School boys soccer team lost a game in which it was held scoreless for the first time this season, a 1-0 loss to Clifton in a North 1, Group 4 sectional semifinal game played at Gardner Field here on Tuesday, Nov. 10. The only goal of the game was an unassisted goal by Victor Manosalvas with about 15 minutes left in the game. The top-seeded Eagles took 18 shots during the game, but only four of them were on net and Clifton keeper Anthony Tsouhnikas stopped them all. Clifton (17-5-1), the No. 4 seed in the section, will face No. 7 seed Livingston in the championship game on Friday, Nov. 13, at Clifton. Livingston advanced to the title game with a 2-1 victory over No. 11 Union City at Livingston on Tuesday. Morris Knolls keeper Eric Schmitt finished the game with nine saves for the Eagles (15-4-3). ?We had our chances,? said Knolls coach Mike Mugavaro after the game. ?The game was an even match between two good teams and both teams went at it hard for the win. ?Their goal was a clean shot into the net.? Knolls was held to one goal in each of the Eagles? earlier losses. Knolls opened the season with a 4-1 loss to Delbarton; lost to Montville, 3-1, in the county tourney semifinals; and lost a 5-1 decision to West Morris later in the season. Knolls three ties came against Sparta (2-2), Roxbury (0-0), and Livingston (3-3). Knolls has one ?game? left on its schedule - a game between the Eagle upper classmen against the lower classmen that will be played at Knolls in the very near future.

DENVILLE - Morris Knolls keeper Eric Schmitt was at close to perfect as you can get during regulation and overtime ... and then his teammates stepped up and were perfect in the penalty-kick shootout. The result a 2-1 victory over North Bergen in a North 1, Group 4 boys soccer state sectional quarterfinal played at Knolls on Friday, Nov. 6. The victory puts top-seed Morris Knolls into the semifinal round against No. 4 Clifton, which beat No. 5 West Orange, 1-0, in their Friday quarterfinal. North Bergen, the ninth-seeded team in the section, beat Schmitt but once in the second half of regulation, a goal that was matched when Marc Defeo scored after taking a pass from Mike Pinter. After two 10-minute overtime periods failed to produced a winner, the five-man, penalty-kick shootout came into play. Alex Montoya, Martin Wojciechowski, Dominic Morizio, Peter Luce and Defeo each scored on their penalty kicks and, when Schmitt made a save on North Bergen's third penalty kick, when Defeo's shot gave the Eagles a 5-3 advantage, the game ended. Morris Knolls will take a 15-3-2 record into the semifinal round of the tournament while North Bergen slipped to 14-7-2 with the loss. The Morris Knolls-Clinton game is supposed to be played on or before Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Knolls at a time that has yet been determined. Defeo's 2 goals beat Roxbury DENVILLE - Even the tunes were good on a day full of good news for the Morris Knolls High School boys soccer team. Morris Knolls, the top seed in the NJSIAA's North 1, Group 4 sectional tournament, got two goals from Marc Defeo and keeper Eric Schmitt stopped everything he saw as the Eagles beat Roxbury, 2-0, in a first-round game held at Gardner Field here on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The game was originally scheduled to be played at Knolls but was switched to Gardner Field because the Eagles' field was unplayable. Defeo, the Eagles' team leader in goals scored with 11, broke a scoreless tie with an unassisted goal just before the halftime break and then scored again early in the second half with an assist from Frank Cestone. Schmitt, meanwhile, stopped all seven shots that 16th-seed Roxbury (8-7-2) put on the Knolls nets. Morris Knolls (14-3-2) will now face No. 9 North Bergen - a 5-0 winner over No. 8 Barringer on Tuesday - in a quarterfinal-round match at 2 p.m. at Knolls on Friday, Nov. 6. The Eagles got more good news earlier in the day when they found out that Alex Montoya, Dominic Morizio, Jake Moran, DeFeo and Schmitt were named to the Morris County Coaches All-County team. And the tunes? Seems that the happy Eagles turned their talents to karaoke on the way home after the game and rocked the bus on the short ride from Gardner Field to the high school. Defeo's team-leading ninth goal of the season proved to be the winner
as Morris Knolls beat High Point, 3-1, in a boys high school soccer
game played at Knolls on Monday, Nov. 2.
Defeo scored on assists from Mike Pinter and Alex Montoya to give
the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Jake Moran's free kick from about 40-yards out
gave Knolls its first goal.
James Hatem, with an assist from freshman Michael Campman, scored
an insurance goal in the second half after High Point had scored its
goal to pull to within a goal of the lead.
Eric Schmitt started and Ryan Graff each had three saves as Schmitt
started nad Graff finished in goal for the Eagles (13-3-2). High Point
goalie Billy Stetzel finished with six saves.
Mike Mugavaro added Campman, Steve Arias, Luciano Cundari and Dan
Albers to the roster for the game, joining freshman Tanner Ackerman and
soph Felipe Terrios-Rincon who were called up three games earlier.
Defeo scored 2 goals in win over Mount Olive
DENVILLE - Marc Defeo had two goals and Mike Pinter and Adam
Ramadan each had one as the Morris Knolls High School boys soccer team
defeated Mount Olive, 4-1, at Mount Olive on Friday, Oct. 30.
Peter Luce, Martin Wojciechowski, Diminic Morizio and Dimitri
Paleocostas had assists for the Eagles, who are now 12-3-2 on the
season. Mount Olive is 8-8-3.
Eric Schmitt and Ryan Graff split the keeper duties for the Eagles and finished the game with a combined seven saves. Knolls gets top seed in state tournament DENVILLE - Morris
Knolls was awarded the top seed in the NJSIAA's 17-team North 1, Group
4 boys soccer tournament and will play a first-round game against
Roxbury on or before Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Knolls at a time to be
determined.
No. 16-seed Roxbury beat No. 17 Bergen Tech, 3-0, in a
preliminary-round game on Thursday, Oct. 29. The Knolls-Roxbury winner
will go on to meet the winner of the first-round game between No. 8
Barringer and No. 9 North Bergen at the site of the better-seeded team
on or before Friday, Nov. 6, at a time to be determined.
Knolls falls to West Morris
DENVILLE - Morris Knolls was out-shot 11-5 in suffering a 5-1 loss
to West Morris at West Morris in a boys high school soccer game played
on Thursday, Oct. 29.
Tanner Ackerman's unassisted goal in the first half was the only
score for the Eagles, who got a combined five saves from the keeper duo
of Eric Schmitt and Ryan Graff.
The loss saw Knolls' record slip to 11-3-2; West Morris improved to 12-6.
MK, Sparta tie, 2-2 DENVILLE - Martin Wojiechowski scored twice as Morris Knolls and Sparta battled to a 2-2 double-overtime deadlock in a high school boys soccer game played at Knolls on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Wojiechowski gave Knolls a 1-0 lead when he headed in a throw-in by Marc Defeo in the first half only to have Sparta's Nick DeSomma score to tie the game at 1-1 at the half. Wojciechowski scored on an assist by Adam Ramadan in the second half to put the Eagles back on top by a goal again, but DeSomma scored less than two minutes later to tie the score at 2-2, where it remained for the rest of regulation and two overtime periods. The tie enabled the Eagles (11-1-2) to increase its non-losing streak to 13 games. Knolls' only loss this season was a 4-1 loss to Delbarton in the season opener.
Pinter, Defeo goals beat Parsippany DENVILLE - Mike Pinter scored one goal and assisted on Marc Defeo's goal as the Morris Knolls High School boys soccer team defeated Parsippany, 2-0, at Morris Knolls on Monday, Oct. 19, to stretch its unbeaten streak to 12 games. Pinter scored when he took in a long punt from Eagle keeper Eric Schmitt and went the rest of the way through the Parsippany defense to score. Schmitt finished with five saves to record the team's seventh shutout of the season. Morris Knolls improved to 11-1-1 with the win; Parsippany is 5-10-1.
Knolls shuts down Hills, 3-0 DENVILLE - Alex Montoya and Zach Bakun picked a good time to score
their first goals of the season - against sister-school and
neighborhood-rival Morris Hills. Montoya and Bakun scored
first-half goals and Marc Defeo added a second-half penalty kick as
Morris Knolls defeated Morris Hills, 3-0, in a high school soccer match
played at Morris Knolls on Tuesday, Oct. 13. The victory was the sixth straight for the Eagles while the shutout was the team's fifth.
Montoya scored his goal first, taking a pass from Peter Luce and
sending in a shot that went over the Morris Hills' keeper's head and
into the net. Bakun was assisted by Martin Wojciechowski and was a
similar shot to Montoya's goal. In the second half, Morris Hills
was called for a handball in the box and Defeo made the
penalty kick for the final goal of the game. Eric Schmitt and
Ryan Graff each played a half in goal for Morris Knolls and the pair
finished with a combined five saves to register the Eagles sixth shutout
of the season. Morris Hills keeper Mike Reynolds finished with 12 saves. The victory improved Morris Knolls' season record to 9-1-1; Morris Hills fell to 1-9 with the loss.
Defeo goal nip Mo'town DENVILLE - Mark Defeo scored the game-winning goal with nine minutes to play as the Morris Knolls High School boys soccer team defeated Morristown, 2-1, in a game played at Morristown on Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Defeo's game-winner came on a direct kick 31 minutes into the second half and gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead. Adam Ramadan had scored the first goal of the game, breaking a 0-0 halftime tie with an assist from Defeo 10 minutes after the break. Morristown (4-4-1) scored its goal minutes after Defeo's goal to close to within a goal at 2-1 but Eagle goalie Eric Schmitt and the Knolls defense shut down the home team the rest of the way. Schmitt finished with nine saves as the Eagles improved to 8-1-1 for the season. Knolls outshot Morristown, 18-11, and had a 12-2 edge in corner kicks. Defeo's goal was his fifth of the season, tying him for the team lead with Martin Wojciechowski.
Wojciechowski goal nips Randolph, 1-0 DENVILLE - Marin Wojciechowski added to his team-high goal total as he scored the only goal of the game when Morris Knolls defeated Randolph, 1-0, in a high school boys soccer game played at Knolls on Friday, Oct. 2. Wojciechowski scored his fifth goal of the season early in the game and the Morris Knolls defense and keeper Eric Schmitt made it stand up as Schmitt stopped all seven shots he faced for his third consecutive shutout and fourth of the season. Schmitt even had a foot in Wojciechowski's goal. The Eagles' junior goalie got off a strong punt that reached the Randolph defensive line where a defender deflected it almost directly to Wojciechowski, who broke through the Rams' defense to get to the ball and knock it into the Randolph net. Randolph (5-2-0) put on the pressure in the final 10 minutes as they flooded the Knolls defensive zone trying to get the tying goal. One Ram shot from the left side slammed off the right post and Schmitt made a save when he went out to haul in a corner kick that was curving in at the near post. Morris Knolls outshot Randolph, 11-7, to improve its season record to 6-1-1.
Cestone & Pinter do it again DENVILLE - For the second game in a row, Frank Cestone and Mike Pinter each scored a goal for a 2-0 Morris Knolls victory. Cestone scored three minutes into the game and Pinter scored in the final two minutes of the game as the Eagles beat Mendham, 2-0, in high school boys soccer at Mendham on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Cestone and Pinter scored the goals in the last Knolls' victory, a 2-0 decison over Pope John on Saturday, Sept. 26. Cestone took a pass from Alex Montoya and got the ball over the Mendham keeper?s head and under the crossbar to give Knolls an early 1-0 lead. For Montoya, the assist was his team-leading fourth of the season. Pinter gave the Eagles a cushion when he scored off an assist by Dominic Morizio late in the second half. For Cestone and Pinter, the goals were the third of the season for them both. Eric Schmitt was in goal for the Eagles and he turned away six shots on net to record his third shutout of the season. Knolls improved its season record to 5-1-1, good enough to land the Eagles the No. 8 seed at the seeding meeting held later that evening for the 2009 Morris County Boy Soccer Tournament. Cestone scored on an assist from Marc Defeo after Defeo had taken a corner kick from Zach Bakun in the first half and Pinter scored his goal in the second half after taking a pass from Alex Montoya. Knolls, which improved to 4-1-1, outshot Pope John, 9-7. Pope John slipped to 2-3 with the loss.
Livingston ties Knolls, 3-3 DENVILLE - Livingston scored all three of its goals in the second half, included the tying goal with three minutes to play, to earn a 3-3 tie with Morris Knolls in a high school boys soccer game played at Knolls on Monday, Sept. 21. Frank Cestone, Marc Defeo and Sean Lucas scored for Morris Knolls and Eagle goaltender Eric Schmitt finished with six saves. Morris Knolls (3-1-1) took a 2-0 lead at the half and was leading 3-2 late in the game when Julian Craitar of Livingston scored his second goal of the game on a shot from six yards out to create the deadlock Livingston is 2-1-1 after the tie.
Wojciechowski's three goals lift Knolls DENVILLE - Martin Wojciechowski scored all the goals in the game as Morris Knolls defeated Jefferson, 3-0, in a high school boys soccer match at Morris Knolls on Thursday, Sept. 17. Marc DeFeo, Sean Lucas and Alex Montoya earned assists on Wojciechowski's goals, reported to be the first three-goal hat trick in boys soccer at Morris Knolls in 20 years. A solid defensive effort by Zach Bakun, Dominic Morizio, Sean Lucas and Jake Moran allowed Jefferson only two shots on Eric Schmitt, who stopped them both to record his first varsity shutout. Knolls is 4-1 after suffering an opening-day loss to Delbarton; Jefferson is winless in two starts.
Knolls defeats Vernon, 3-1 DENVILLE - Morris Knolls scored twice in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and defeat Vernon, 3-1, in a high school boys soccer game played at Vernon on Wednesday, Sept. 16. Adam Ramadan had a goal and an assist for the Eagles (2-1) while Marc DeFeo and Martin Wojciechowski each scored a goal. Frank Cestone, Peer, Luce and Alex Montoya each had assists for the Eagles and keeper Eric Schmitt finished with seven saves in the victory. Morris Knolls had a 24-11 shots advantage on Vernon, which fell to 0-2-1 with the loss.

DENVILLE - Doing all their scoring in the first half, the Morris Knolls Eagles defeated Parsippany Hills, 3-1, in a boys soccer game play at Knolls on Monday, Sept. 14. Adam Ramadan finished with a goal and an assist and Marc Defeo and Mike Pinter each added a goal for Knolls. Pete Luce and Frank Cestone also had assists for the Eagles, who are now 1-1 on the young season. Morris Knolls keeper Eric Schmitt finished with 17 saves, losing his shutout in the second half when Jad Cherbaka scored for Parsippany Hills (1-1).

Delbarton took a 2-1 halftime lead and then scored the only two goals of the second half to seal the victory. The game was also the first of the season for Delbarton.
