'Coaches vs. Cancer' at MH-MK girls hoops

    -

ROCKAWAY - It was "Coaches vs. Cancer" at the Morris Hills-Morris Knolls girls basketball games at Morris Hills High School on Thursday, Jan. 28, as the girls basketball programs of both schools helped raise funds to help battle cancer. Players on all three levels of both schools sold pink T-shirts and basktballs and manned donation cans at various locations in the gymnasium area.
"A lot of the teams in the county tournament will be doing this in their gyms when the games start this Saturday," said Morris Hills head coach Bill Nieman. "We didn't think we would get a home game in the tourney, so we got together with Knolls and decided to do it tonight."
Money collected at the Hills-Knolls game as well as the county games will be presented to various cancer charities on Friday, Feb. 26, when the Morris County Girls Basketball Tournament championship game will be played at FDU-Florham University.

Before the varsity game, the teams posed for a combined team shot with their coaches, Sandy Feld of Morris Knolls (frontt row) and Nieman (second row) ... and then they went out a played the game and Morris Knolls won, 45-39, but Morris Hills was never out of contention.
