MH BOYS FENCING

Hills falls to Hunderdon C.


     ROCKAWAY - Morris Hills lost a 19-8 decision to state-power Hunterdon Central in a high school boys fencing match held at Morris Hills on Friday, Feb. 12.
     The loss was the Knights’ seventh in 12 matches while Hunterdon Central improved to 11-1.

Winslow, Yang go 3-0 in loss to Voorhees

     ROCKAWAY - Noah Winslow and David Yang each finished 3-0 in foil as Morris Hills gave state power Voorhees a bit of a scare before losing a 15-12 decision in a high school boys fencing match held Thursday, Feb. 24, at Voorhees.
     The Knight (5-6) got eight out of nine points in the foil competition as C.J. Nestor finished 2-1 on his strip.
     Voorhees won the foil 8-1 and the epee 6-3 to improve its record to 16-2 for the season.
     Tom Smith got the only point in sabre for Morris Hills while Joe Boykow, Rich McKinley and Jerry Wasdyke each scored a point in epee for the Knights.

Smith, King 3-0 in victory over Hackettstown

    ROCKAWAY - Tom Smith was 3-0 in sabre and Matt King finished 3-0 in foil when Morris Hills held off Hackettstown, 15-12, in a high school boys fencing match held at Morris Hills on Monday, Feb. 1.
    Morris Hills won the sabre, 5-4, with Orben Ken finishing 2-1 in his bouts. The Knights finished 7-2 in foil with C.J. Nestor and Noah Winslo each added two wins to Smith�s three.
      Hackettstown won the epee, 6-3 as Rich McKinely and Joe Boykow accounted for the Knights� three points in the weapon.
 The win boosted Morris Hills season record to 6-5; the loss was the sixth for winless Hackettstown.

King, Yang, Smith leads Hills past Knolls

    ROCKAWAY - Matt King and David Yang each finished 3-0 in foil and Tim Smith was 3-0 in sabre when Morris Hills beat Morris Knolls, 15-12, in a high school boys fencing match held at Morris Hills on Monday, Jan. 25.
    The Knights (4-4) were 8-1 overall in foil with C.J. Nestor winning two of his three bouts. Ken Orben was 2-1 in sabre and Chris Blewett won a match to give Morris Hills a 6-3 edge in that weapon. Jerry Wasdyke got the only Morris Hills point in epee.
    The victory squared the Knights season record at 4-4; Knolls slipped to 2-3 with the loss.

Knights upset Livingston, 16-11, as Yang goes 3-0

   ROCKAWAY - The Morris Hills High School boys fencing team upset  previously one-beaten Livingston, 16-11, as David Yang led the way with a perfect record in foil in a match held at Morris Hills on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
    Yang's 3-0 mark in foil along with C.J. Nestor's two victories and single wins by Matt King and Noah Winslow gave the Knights (3-4) a 7-2 edge in foil and provided the margin of victory over Livingston (4-2).
    Morris Hills was 5-4 in epee with Rich McKinley going 2-0 and Brandon Figueroa, Ayala Jaime and Jerry Wasdyke each winning single bouts.
    In sabre, Tom Smith was 2-1 and Chris Blewett and Orben Ken each won single bouts as the Knights finished 4-5.

Knights bow to Mendham, 16-1

     ROCKAWAY - The Morris Hills High School boys fencing team is still looking for its first win of the season after losing a 16-11 decision to Mendham at Mendham on Thursday, Jan. 7.
    Morris Hills (0-3) won the sabre competition, 5-4, with Ken Orben going 3-0 in his bouts and Chris Blewett and Tom Smith each picking up a win.
    Mendham (2-3) won both the epee and foil by the same 6-3 score to seal the team victory.
    For Morris Hills, Joe Boykow, Ayala Jaime and Rich McKinley each won a bout in epee, and Matt King, C.J. Nestor and Noah Winslo each won one bout in foil.

MH falls to Hunterdon Central


     ROCKAWAY - The Morris Hills High School girls fencing team lost a 22-5 decision to Hunderdon Central in a match held at Morris Hill on Friday, Feb. 12.
 Morris Hills is 6-9 with the defeat; Hunderdon Central is now 7-3.

Graner, Pearson finish 3-0 in loss to Voorhees

    ROCKAWAY - Emily Graner went 3-0 in sabre and Shana Pearson was 3-0 in foil as the Morris Hills girls fencing team lost a 15-12 decision to Voorhees in a match held at Voorhees on Thursday, Feb. 4.
    Angelique Frazier and Jennifer Stanz each won a point in sabre as the Lady Knights, led by Graner, finished with a 5-4 edge in the weapon.
    Morris Hills also won the foil competition by the same score as Erica Balbi and Mallika Gapalaiahgari each scored a point to go with Pearson’s perfect mark.
    Voorhess won the epee 7-2 with Melissa Hicinbothem and Samantha Hill scoring the points for Morris Hills.

Lady Knights fall to Hackettstown, 15-12

    ROCKAWAY - Emily Graner's perfect 3-0 mark in sabre wasn’t enough as the Morris Hills girls fencing team lost a 15-12 decision the Hackettstown in a high school girls fencing match held at Morris Hills on Monday, Feb. 1.
    Morris Hills, now 6-5, won the sabre, 5-4, as Angelique Frazier was 2-1 to pick up the other two points in the weapon. Hackettstown won the foil 6-3 and edged the Lady Knights in the epee, 5-4, to decide the match.
    Shana Pearson picked up two points in the foil and Kathy Munoz added the third, In the epee, Arielle Rottman won twice and Samantha Hill and Rebecca Rivera each picked up a point for the Lady Knights.

Lady Knights beat Knolls, close in on .500 mark

     ROCKAWAY - The Morris Hills girls fencing team moved to within a game of the .500 mark after beating sister-school Morris Knolls, 18-9, in a high school match held at Morris Hills on Monday, Jan. 25.
     Angelique Frazier and Emily Graner were each 2-0 and Gina Ruiz won one bout as the sabre team finished 5-4 for Morris Hills (3-4).
     The Lady Knights had a 7-2 edge in foil as Erica Balbi went 2-0, Shana Pearson was 2-1, and Diane Giraldo, Mallika Gopalaiahgari and Kathy Munoz each won one bout.
     Samantha Hill finished 2-0 in epee and Samantha Agront, Melissa Hicinbothem, Rebecca Rivera and Siobhan Scully each won a bout as the Lady Knights won the weapon, 6-3.
    Morris Knolls slipped to 3-3 with the loss.

    ROCKAWAY - Angelique Frazier of Morris Hills swept her three bouts in sabre as the Lady Knights lost to Essex County power Livingston, 17-10, in a high school girls fencing match held at Morris Hills on Tuesday, Jan. 19.
    Frazier's 3-0 mark and wins by Emily Graner and Sarah O’Neill gave the Lady Knights (3-4) a 5-4 edge in sabre.
    Livingston (5-1) had a 5-4 edge in epee and secured the team victory with an 8-1 advantage in foil.
    Siobhan Scully was 2-0 in epee for Morris Hills while Willamina Groething and Samantha Hill each won single bouts.
 Kathy Munoz got the only point in foil for the Lady Knights.
