Denville's Brian Stiles earns
USA Swim All-America time

DENVILLE - Brian Stiles of Denville and the Morris County Swim Club charged to a first-place victory in the15-18 boys 100-meter freestyle in meet-record 53.35 seconds on the first day of the USA Swimming Eastern Zone Long Course Championships held at Penn State University on Wednesday-Saturday, August 10-13, 2011.
Stiles' finish in the 100 free earned him a USA Swimming All America Time and set a new meet record. Stiles also won the 200 free in 1:58.70 and the 400 free in 4:13.64.
Stiles won the boys 15-over High Point Award at the meet, as when he went on to record a second-place finish in the 800 free with a time of 9:04.91; a win in the 1500 free in 17:23.83 and a third-place in the 50 free in 25.43.
A week earlier, Stiles set a personal record in the 50 free with a time 24.84 at the USA Swimming Eastern Super Sectional Meet held at the University of Pittsburgh. Both meets were held in 50m pools.
Other area MCSC athletes participating in the Zones Meet included Roo Fenton of Boonton Twp, with five top-10 finishes, including fifth places in the boys 10U 50 and 100 fly. Fenton grabbed a personal best time of 5:07.82 to capture eighth place in the 400 free.
Matthew Wei of Whippany had two top-10 finishes in the boys 11-12 50 and 100 fly; Laurel Carey of Madison set personal records of 37.04 in the 10U girls 50 fly and 32.77 in the 50 Free.
Denville's Jessica Stiles joined her brother Brian in earning qualifying times at the Super Sectional and Zone meets and Michael Stiles also participated in the Zones meet, with personal best times in the 200 Free & Back events.
The MCSC is a year-round competitive swim club, practicing out of Morristown-Beard and the County College of Morris. Tryouts for the new swim year take place at Mo-Beard on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 2-3.
