Denville's Stiles wins 1000-yard free at 'Derby'

Brian Stiles of Denville was one of two Morris County Swim Club (MCSC) competitors to win a gold medal in the two-day 2009 Distance Derby Swim Meet hosted by the Elite Swim Club of Summit and held at Newark Academy in Livingston on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 21-22.
Stiles, 15, won the boys open 1000-yard freestyle in 10:27.31, a 2.13-second improvement over his previous best time at that distance. He also placed fourth in the boys 13-and-over 200 free, finishing with a time of 1:53.71.
Jamie Viotto, 12, of Morris Township was the other MCSC gold-medal winner, finishing first in the boys 12-under 500 in 5:43.54. Viotto also had seconds in the 200 free, 200 fly and 200 back; finished third in the 200 IM; and placed eighth in the 1000 free.
Forty-six MCSC swimmers participated in the meet and they combined for four club records, five gold times, 11 silver times and 125 best times in the 165 events in which they participated.
