ROCKAWAY - The Junior Knights PeeWees stopped a two-point conversion run with 1:40 to play to finish with a 19-18 victory over the Dover Tigers in a Morris County Youth Football night game played at Hamilton Field in Dover on Saturday, Sept. 18.
Dover trailed 19-12 in the final two minutes of play when the Tigers scored on an 18-yard halfback-option play on a 4th-and-10 situation to pull to within a point.
The Junior Knights left side of the defensive line - led by Dajon Chappel and Nick Walls - swarmed over the Tiger running back when Dover tried a sweep for the two-point coversion and the lead.
The Junior Knights took the ensuing kickoff and, with Dover out of timeouts, were able to pick up one first down and run out the game clock for the one-point victory, their second in as many outings this season.
Dover scored first in the game but Chappel got the Knights even with a 32-yard touchdown run. After Dover scored again, Daymon Fleming took a shotgun snap from Thomas Stoback and scored on a 55-yard quarterback draw to send the teams into the halftime break tied at 12-12.
The Junior Knights went ahead for good with seven minutes to play when Derrien Coley scored on a 1-yard run and Chappell added the one-point conversion on a run.
Offensive linemen Zack Carroll, Matt Lindstedt, Jordan Almindinger, Joseph Vicente and Stoback drew the coaching staff's praise for their blocking. Kurt Nees, C.J. Scott, Walls, Joe Schiele, Chappel, Walls and Fleming had solid defensive efforts - especially in the second half - according to the Junior Knight coaches.
