Perna scores a hat trick
to lead Thunder to 4-1 win

       DENVILLE - Maddison Perna scored a three-goal hat trick as the unbeaten Denville HUB Soccer U9 Thunder girls travel soccer team remained unbeaten in Morris County Youth Soccer Association play with a 4-1 victory over the Mount Olive Pumas in a game played at Turkey Hill Park in Mount Olive on Sunday, June 6.
      Perna scored twice within a three-minute time span in the first half  to give the Flight 3 leading Thunder (6-0-1) a 2-0 lead. Perna scored her first goal with an assist from Ariana Cicenia at the 25-minute mark and added an unassisted goal at the 28-minute mark as the Thunder took a two-goal lead at the halftime break.
      Danielle Mills scored the third goal for the Thunder, beating the Mount Olive keeper unassisted at the 15 minutes into the second half.
 Five minutes later, Perna got her hat trick when she scored another unassisted goal to give Denville a 4-0 lead.
      The Pumas scored their only goal late in the game.
      The Thunder defensive unit of Emily Piser, Gaby Lara, Sydney Huber, Casey Morren and Mills drew praise from the coaching staff for their solid play throughout the game.

Perna, Mills spark Thunder to two weekend wins

     DENVILLE - The Denville HUB Soccer Thunder U9 girls travel team won both of its Morris County Youth Soccer Association games  over the Mother's Day weekend to improve their season's unbeaten record to 5-0-1.
     On Sunday, May 9, Maddison Perna scored a three-goal hat trick and Danielle Mills added a goal and an assist as the Thunder beat the New Generation Pearls, 4-1, at Burnet Hill Field in Livingston.
     Perna opened the scoring with a goal at the 15-minute mark with Emily Piser getting the assist. Perna added her second goal on an assist from Mills before completing her hat trick with an unassisted goal.
     Mills scored her goal in the game's final minutes.
     Thunder keeper Adriana Cicenia played the entire game in goal and finished with five saves. Defenders Emily Piser, Gaby Lara, Casey Morren and Sydney Huber had solid games in limiting the Pearls shots on net.
     On Friday, May 7, the Thunder defeated the Pequannock Wildcats, 2-0,  in a game at Todd Johnson Field here as Perna and Mills each scored goals.
     Perna made it 1-0 on a pass from Madeleine Colledge with just second to play in the first half and Mills added an insurance score on an unassisted goal midway through the second half.
     Tori Izsa and Cicenia shared the shutout as they split the goaltending duties for the Thunder. Izsa made four saves in the first half and Cicenia stopped the only shot she faced in the second half.
     Once again, the Thunder backline played a key role in the victory as the foursome of Piser, Lara, Morren and Huber had solid defensive efforts.

Perna penalty-shot goal in final 5 seconds gains tie

     DENVILLE - Maddison Perna's penalty shot goal with five seconds to play - her fourth goal of the game - enabled  the Denville HUB Soccer Thunder U9 girls travel team to gain a 4-4 tie with the Highland Strikers in a Morris County Youth Association game played at Goodale Field in Newton on Sunday, May 2.
      Both teams were 3-0 going into the game and the Strikers seemed on their way to win No. 4 when they scored goals 15 and 20 minutes into the game to take a 2-0 lead.
     Perna got her first goal at the 25-minute mark as the Strikers carried a 2-1 lead into the halftime break. Eight minutes into the second half, the Strikers struck again to take a 3-1 lead. Perna got her second and third goals in a five-minute span early in the second half to tie the game at 3-3 only to have the Strikers score again to take a 4-3 lead.
     With seconds left on the game clock, Perna took a hard shot on goal that hit the hand of a Striker defender and Perna was awarded a penalty shot that Perna made to create the final 4-4 deadlock.
      Tori Izsa was the Thunder keeper for the entire game and she finished with  14 saves. She got plenty of help from a defensive corps led by Danielle Mills and Emily Piser.

Mills, Perna goals defeat Jefferson, 4-1

    DENVILLE - Danielle Mills and Maddison Perna each had two goals and an assist as the Denville HUB Soccer Thunder U9 girls travel team defeated the Jefferson Lady Falcons, 4-1, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Camp Jefferson Field in Lake Hopatcong on Sunday, April 23.
     The Thunder improved to 3-0 with the win and moved into first place in Flight 3 of the MCYSA's U9 girls division. Jefferson is now 2-1.
     Mills scored an unassisted goal 23 minutes into the game for the only goal of the first half.
     Jefferson countered with its lone goal 15 minutes into the second half, but Denville scored three times in the next eight minutes to put the game out of reach.
    Mills scored on an assist from Perna at the 18-minute mark; Perna added an unassisted goal five minutes later; and Perna scored the final goal of the game on an assist from Mills at the 26-minute mark.
     Denville keeper Tori Izsa finished the game with four saves and got a solid defensive job throughout the game by Emily Poiser, Gaby Lara and Sydney Huber.
     Denville outshot Jefferson, 22-4, with Mills and Perna combining for 17 shots. Madison Verrone finished with two shots on goal and Ariana Cicenia, Casey Morren and Katelyn Walsh each had one.

Mills goal lifts Thunder past Pequannock, 1-0

     DENVILLE - Danielle Mills scored the only goal of the game as the Denville HUB Soccer Thunder U9 girls team defeated the Pequannock Wildcats, 1-0, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Stephen J. Gerace School in Pequannock on Sunday, April 18.
     Mills scored on an assist by Maddison Perna at the 15-minute mark of the first half as the Thunder improved to 2-0 with their second straight shutout of the season.
     Tori Izsa and Adriana Cicenia shared the goaltending duties with Izsa making three saves in the first half and Cicenia stopping all five shots she faced in the second half.
     Both goalies got a lot of help from a Thunder defense led by Emily Piser and Gaby Lara.

Perna 3 goals, Isza goaltending stop Pumas, 5-0

     DENVILLE - Maddison Perna's three-goal hat trick and the shutout goaltending of Tori Isza sparked the HUB Denville Thunder U9 girls travel soccer team to a 5-0 victory over the Mount Olive Pumas in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association opening-day game played at Todd Johnson Field here on Sunday, April 11.
    The Thunder, who scored all five goals in the second half, got a perfect day in the nets from Isza, who finished with four saves - two in each half.
     Isza got plenty of help from a defensive corps consisting of stopper Danielle Mills and defenders Emily Piser, Casey Marren, Gaby Lara and Sydney Huber.
     Perna scored the first goal of the game at the 10-minute mark of the second half with an assist from Madison Verrone. Less than two minutes later, Perna made it 2-0 when she scored off a throw-in from Mills.
     Mills scored on an assist from Gaby Lara a the 22-minute mark and Verrone made it 4-0 three minutes later when she scored after taking a pass from Mills.
    Two minutes later, Perna completed her hat trick with an unassisted goal for the last score of the game.
