Long, Budwick score goals

in 2-1 victory over Jaguars

      DENVILLE - The Denville HUB Soccer Red Devils U10 girls travel team finished its 2010 spring Morris County Youth Soccer Association season with a 4-3-3 record on Sunday, June 13, when the Devils beat the West Jersey Jaguars, 2-1, in a thunder-and-rain shortened game played at MeadowBreeze Park in Washington.
      The first half ended tied at 1-1 when the Devils scored on a goal by Perrine Long with an assist from Haley Graybush and the Jaguars scored on a penalty kick. Giana Franklin and Kristen Giosio had quality shots on goal for the Devils in the first half, but they were denied by the West Jersey keeper.
      Early in the second half, Laura Budwick scored what proved to be the winning goal when her left-footed shot found the back of the net.
      With 10 minutes gone in the second half, the game was halted due to a thunder storm that produced heavy rain and, after a suitable delay, it was decided by game officials that the game would not be resumed.
      Emily Stone was in goal for Denville in the first half and recorded one save. Maddie Somogyi was the Devils' keeper in the second half and did not face a shot on goal.

Graybush, Somogyi goals give Devils tie with Rover

     DENVILLE - Haley Graybush and Maddie Somogyi scored the goals as the Denville HUB Soccer Devils U10 girls travel team tied the Ringwood Roversm 2-2, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Ryerson Field in Ringwood on Sunday, June 6.
      Graybush's unassisted goal in the first half was matched by one from the Rovers as the teams fought to a 1-1 stalemate in the first half.
      In the second half, Denville's Bridgett LaRiccia, Hanna Driscoll and Laura Budwick each had a quality shots on goal that were turned aside, leaving it up to Somogyi, a defenseman, to score for Denville as she beat the Rover keeper on a blast from mid-field. As in the first half, however, Ringwood answered - this time within minutes of Denville's goal - and the defense and the keepers kept both sides off the board the rest of the way.
      Somogyi and Jayme Drucker split the goaltending duties with Somogyi stopping six of the seven first-half shots she faced and Drucker stopping all but one of the six second-half shots she saw.

Red Devils split pair of weekend games

      DENVILLE - The Denville HUB Soccer Red Devils U10 girls travel team split their two Morris County Youth Soccer Association games this past weekend, beating the West Jersey Jaguars, 2-0, on Saturday, May 22, and losing to the Madison Magic, 4-0, the next day with both games played at Todd Johnson Field here.
      Against West Jersey, neither team could score in the first half with Denville's Laura Budwick getting her team's only shot on goal and Red Devil first-half goalie Maddie Somogyi stopping all four shots she faced.
      In the second half, Hanna Driscoll ended the scoreless battle when she scored on a penalty kick 25 minutes into the half.
      Four minutes later, Haley Graybush scored an insurance goal. Bridget LaRiccia and Jayme Drucker also had quality shots on goal that were turned aside by the West Jersey keeper.
     Red Devils' second-half goalie EmiLee Stone completed the shutout as she stopped the only two shots West Jersey was able to put on net.
     The shutout was on the other foot the next day as the Magic scored the only four goals of the game in the first half and held on for their 4-0 victory.
     Driscoll, Drucker and Stone each had good shots at the Madison goal but each one was stopped by the Magic keeper.
     Elyse Halpern and Somogyi split the goaltending duties for the Red Devils and each finished with two saves.

Red Devils shut down by Wallkill Valley

      DENVILLE - The Denville HUB Soccer Red Devils U10 girls travel team ran into a rock-solid Wallkill Valley Warriors' defense and came out on the short end of a 4-0 verdict in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at the Hardyston Township Sports Complex on Sunday, May 16.
      Red Devils' goaltenders Elyses Halpern and Jayme Drucker had a busy afternoon and finished with a combined 13 saves.

Keepers Somogyi, Drucker share shutout in 3-0 win

     DENVILLE - Keepers Maddie Somogyi and Jayme Drucker shared the shutout when the Denville HUB Soccer Red Devils U10 girls travel team stopped the West Essex Bobcats, 3-0, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Todd Johnson Field here on Sunday, May 9.
      Somogyi stopped all four shots she faced in the first half and Drucker finished with three save in the second half for the Red Devils.
      Laura Budwick scored the Red Devils first goal on an asisst from Hanna Driscoll early in the first half. The roles were reversed later in the half when Driscoll scored a goal on a pass from Budwick.
      The Red Devils' final goal came in the second half when Emily Stone scored when her free kick from outside the penalty area went high into the West Essex net.

Red Devils gain 1-1 on late goal by Budwick

    DENVILLE - Laura Budwick's goal late in the game enabled the Denville HUB Soccer Red Devils U10 girls travel team to gain a 1-1 tie with the Ringwood Rovers in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Martin J. Ryerson School in Ringwood on Sunday, April 25.
     Ringwood scored its goal in the first half and the Red Devils opened play in the second half with Bridget LaRiccia, Jayme Drucker and Budwick getting quality shots on the Rover goal only to have them denied.
     It took a pass from Perrine Long to Budwick with time becoming a factor to gain the hard-earned tie.
     Maddie Somogyi and Emilee Stone shared the keeper duties for Denville and finished the game with a combined six saves.

Red Devils lose to Madison Magic, 3-2

      DENVILLE - The Denville HUB Soccer Red Devils U10 girls travel team broke out to a 2-0 first-half lead only to have the Madison Magic rally for three unanswered second-half goal to take a 3-2 victory over the Denville club in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Bayley Field in Madison on Sunday, April 18.

     Hanna Driscoll scored on a breakaway with the game two minutes old and the Red Devils made it 2-0 when Emilee Stone scored on a free kick outside the penalty area at the 40-minute mark.

     Elyse Halpern and Maddie Somogyi shared the goaltending duties for the Red Devils.

Budwick's goal sparks Red Devils, 1-0

     DENVILLE - Laura Budwick's first-half goal was the only score of the game as the Denville HUB Soccer Red Devils U10 girls travel team defeated the Wallkill Valley Warriors, 1-0, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association 2010 spring season opening game played at Todd Johnson field here on Sunday, April 11.
     Budwick put a long drive on goal that glanced off the post before landing in the Wallkill net.
     Kristen Giosio, Haley Graybush and Budwick had shots on goal later in the game but they were denied.
     Jayme Drucker and Elyse Halpern split the goaltending duties and the shutout for the Red Devils with Drucker making four saves in the first half and Halpern stopping all five shots she saw in the second half.
