Demons gain weekend split
on goals by Scalici, Furlong

     DENVILLE - The Denville HUB Soccer Demons U10 boys travel team played Florham Park United in back-to-back weekend Morris County Youth Soccer Association games and the teams split the two games with each team winning on the other's home field.
     On Saturday, June 5, Florham Park United blanked the Demons, 4-0, at Todd Johnson Field here as Stevie Genung and David Connell split the goaltending duties and, according to head coach Shawn Plumb, each keeper had solid games.
     On Sunday, June 6, the Demons came back to beat United, 5-2, at the Elm Street Field in Florham Park as Tommy Scalici and Riley Furlong each scored two goals.
     Scalici scored the game's first goal, converting a pass from David Connell. United tied the score at 1-1 with its first goal, but the Demons took the lead for good when Furlong scored on Connell's second assist just before the halftime break.
      The Demons scored twice in the first five minutes of the second half as Furlong scored his second goal of he game on an asisst by James Benjamin and then Benjamin made it 4-1 when he scored on an assist from Scalici.
      Scalici scored on a corner kick for the Demons last goal before United scored the game's last goal.
      Genung was in goal for the entire game and he finished with eight saves.
      The Demons play their next game on Sunday, June 13, against the Kinnelon Firepower at Kinnelon at 3:30 p.m.

Demons win on goals by Scalici, Territo

      DENVILLE - Tommy Scalici scored a goal and assisted on a goal by Aaron Territo when the Denville HUB Soccer Demons U9 boys travel team defeated the Ringwood Rage, 2-1, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Ryerson Field in Ringwood on Sunday, May 16.
     Scalici scored an unassisted goal in the third minute of the game and then assisted on Scalici's goal in the 33rd minute of play as the Demons improved to 4-1.
     Ringwood scored its goal in the 43rd minute of play.
     Stevie Genung and Jason Mooney split the goaltending duties with Genung making three saves in his half in the Demons' nets and Mooney stopping two shots in his half of play.
     The Demons are scheduled to play the Caldwell Power on Sunday, May 23, at Todd Johnson Field here. Game time is 2:30 p.m.

Furlong's 3 goals help beat Kinnelon

    DENVILLE - Riley Furlong scored a three-goal hat trick to lead the Denville HUB Demons U9 boys travel team to a 4-1 victory over the Kinnelon Firepower in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Todd Johnson Field here on Sunday, May 2.
     Aaron Territo had the fourth goal for the Demons and Thomas Fitzsimmons finished with two assists as the Demons remained unbeaten at 3-0.
     All four Demons' goals were scored in the first half and Kinnelon got its goal late in the second half.
     Stevie Genung and David Connell split the goaltending duties for Denville with Genung making three saves in the first half and Connell stopping three shots on net in the second half.
     The Demons next game is against Summit on Sunday, May 9, at home at 2:30 p.m.

Connell, Territo lead way in 9-1 victory

    DENVILLE - The Denville HUB Soccer Demons U9 boys travel team scored four times in the first six minutes of play and then went on to record a 9-1 win over the Caldwell Power in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Jefferson Elementary Field in Caldwell on Sunday, April 18.
     David Connell and Aaron Territo each scored two goals and Tommy Scalici, Thomas Fitzsimmons, Thomas Colao, Robert Plumb and Spenser Barry each added single goals.
     Scalico also added two assists while Jared Plattman, James Benjamin and Territo each had one.
     David Connell was the Denville keeper for the entire game and he finished with five saves.
    The Demons (2-0) next game is against Florham Park United at Todd Johnson Field here on Sunday, April 25, at 1 p.m.

Scalici, Connel goals spark Demons 2-1 win in opener

     DENVILLE - The Denville HUB Demons U9 boys team celebrated its move up to Flight 3 with a 2-1 victory over the Ringwood Rage in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association opener at Todd Johnson Field here on Sunday, April 11.
    Tommy Scalici scored the winning goal in the 55th minute when he broke a 1-1 tie when his shot on net went in just under the crossbar. Aaron Territo and Thomas Fitzsimmons had assists on the play.
     The Demons' first goal came in the first half when David Connell broke a scoreless tie in the 24th minute of play. He took a pass from Robert Plumb and, after he had his first shot blocked by the Rage keeper, gathered in his own rebound and scored when his second shot went in off the crossbar.
     Ringwood had tied the game at 1-1 in the 50th minute of play.
    Stevie Genung and Jason Mooney split the keeper duties for the Demons, Genung stopping all four shots he faced in the first half and Mooney finishing with two saves.
     The Demons travel to Caldwell on Sunday, April 18, for a 1 p.m. game against the Power.
