Wheels, Butler Blues

fight to 3-3 standoff

     DENVILLE - Kyle Somogyi, Ian Beumee and Nicholas Penkrat each scored a goal when the Denville HUB Soccer Wheels U11 boys travel team and the Butler Blues F.C. fought to a 3-3 tie in a Morris County Youth Association game played at Lower Knuth Fields on Sunday, Nov. 7.
     Butler took a 1-0 lead in the first minute of play before Somogyi tied the score at 1-1 with an assist from Kyle Wilson at the 11-minute mark of the first half. Those were the only two goals of the first half and the team went into the break tied at 1-1.
     Denville took a 2-1 lead 14 minutes into the second half when Beumee scored with an assist from Caleb Tomkins.
     Five minutes later, the lead grew to two goals when Penkrat scored with an assist by Pierce Rankin.
      It took all of five minutes for Butler to knot the game at 3-3, however, as the Blues cut the Wheels lead to a goal at 3-2 with a goal at the 19-minute mark and then tied the game at with the final score of the game just three minutes later.
     After the game, the Wheels coaching staff praised the team's heart and determination as well as the teamwork, strong passing and solid defense their team put on display during the game.

Wilson's 2nd-half goal gives Wheels 2-1 victory

     DENVILLE - Kyle Wilson's goal with nine minutes to play lifted the Denville HUB Soccer Wheels U11 boys travel team to a 2-1 victory over the Ringwood Raiders in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Upper Knuth Field here on Sunday, Oct. 24.
     After a scoreless first half, Ian Beaumee scored with an assist from Kyle Somogyi just six minutes into the second half.
     Ringwood came back 12 minutes later with its only goal of the game and the score was tied, 1-1.
     The Wheels got their game-winning goal when Carl Ertle sent a cross to Wilson and Wilson was able to beat the Ringwood keeper.
      Bryce Mott was in goal the entire game for the Wheels and finished with a total of 11 saves.
      The next game for the Wheels is a 1:45 p.m. game against Summit on Sunday, Oct. 31 at Summit Glenside Large Field.

Somogyi three 2nd-half goals give Wheels 4-2 win

       DENVILLE - Kyle Somogyi scored three goals in a 16-minute span in the second have to lead the Denville HUB Soccer Wheels U11 boys travel team to a 4-2 win over High Point in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Woodbourne Park in High Point on Sunday, Oct. 17.
       Carl Ertle converted a pass from Ian Beumee five minutes into the game to give the Wheels a 1-0 lead that held throughout the first half.
       After High Point tied he game at 1-1 three minutes into the second half, Somogyi went to work.
      Somogyi scored his first goal at the six-minute mark with an assist from John Monaco; one minute later, his unassisted goal gave Denville a 3-1 lead; at the 22-minute mark, he scored with an assist from Ertle and Denville had a 4-1 lead.
     High Point scored its second goal of the game at the 27-minute mark.
      Bryce Mott was in goal for the entire game for the Wheels and he finished with five saves.
      The next game for the Wheels is on Sunday, Oct. 24,  against the Ringwood Raiders at Upper Knuth Field at 1 p.m.

Kosiorowski, Pellegrino, Somogyi spark Wheels

      DENVILLE - Three times, the Denville HUB Soccer Wheels U11 boys travel soccer team gave up the first goal of a game and three times the Wheels came back to win.
      Finally, in the fourth game - the championship game of the Pequannock Soccer Club's 2010 Fall Soccer Classic - the Wheels scored first and went on to a 4-1 victory over the host Pequannock Kickin' Panthers to complete a 4-0 weekend and win the tournament title.
       The tournament was held in Pequannock on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 9-10, and attracted more than 150 boys and girls teams from 8U to 14U that participated in five- or six-team age-group divisions.
       The Wheels won their six-team division by winning all four of their games.
       The championship game victory over Pequannock on Sunday, Oct. 10, saw Denville score all four of its goals before Pequannock got on the board with its lone goal with five minutes left to play.
       Kyle Wilson scored twice and Kyle Somogyi and Bryce Mott added single goals while Joshua Rand and Marek Kosiorowski added assists for the Wheels. The goalies duties were split with Mott making three saves in the first half and Ian Beumee finishing with two saves in the second half.
       In each of the three earlier games, however, the Wheels had to battle back from a 1-0 deficit.
       In Sunday's early game, the Montclair Renegades held a 1-0 lead at the half before Somogyi scored two unassisted goals in the second half to give the Wheels a 2-1 victory and put them into the tourney's championship game. Mott played the entire game in goal and finished with five saves.
      The Wheels opened tournament play Saturday, Oct. 9, morning and found themselves trailing the West Essex United Red Bulls, 1-0, just five minutes into the game.
       The Wheels recovered and went on to win, 4-1, however, as goals by Pierce Rankin and Matias Pellegrino put Denville on top, 2-1, at the half and Somogyi and Wilson added second-half goals to put the game out of reach.
     In Saturday's second game, the Roxbury Tigers took a 1-0 halftime lead but couldn't hold it as Wilson scored an unassisted goal 16 minutes into the second half and then Marek Kosiorowski added another unassisted goal that proved to be the game-winner at the 28-minute mark of the half. Beumee played the entire game in goal for the Wheels and finished with four saves.
     Notes: The Wheels outscored their opponents, 12-4, in the four-game tournament ... Wilson and Somogyi each had four goals to lead the Wheels ... Pellegrino, Kosiorowski, Rankin and Mott each had one goal ...

Kosiorowski, Pellegrino, Somogyi spark Wheels

     DENVILLE - Kyle Somogyi, Marek Kosiorowski and Matias Pellegrino each scored two goals when the Denville HUB Soccer Wheels U11 boys travel team beat Summit, 7-2, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Lower Knuth Field here on Sunday, Sept. 19.
     Somogyi opened the scoring on an assist by Ian Beaumee with the game but two minutes old. Summit tied the score in the11th minute, but Kosiorowski's unassisted breakaway goal from 20 yards out 10 minutes later gave Denville a 2-1 lead.
     Somogyi scored his second goal of the game on an assist from Pellegrino in the 29th minute as the Wheels took a 3-1 lead into the halftime break.
     Denville took a 4-1 lead in the 14th minute of the second half when Kyle Wilson scored on an assist by John Monaco.
     Summit answered two minutes later to cut the lead back to two goals only to have Pellegrino, Kosiorowski and Pellegrino again score three goals in a five-minute period to put the game out of reach.
     Pellegrino scored his first goal unassisted at the 30th minute; Kosiorowski scored his second goal of the game - also unassisted - just two minutes later; and Pellegrino scored his second goal and the final goal of the game at the 35 minute when he scored on an assist from Monaco, his second of the game.
     The Wheels have a busy weekend schedule with a 6 p.m. Rockaway Cup game against Rockaway on Friday, Sept. 24, at Gardner Field here; a State Cup game scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25, at Veterans Memorial Field off Zeek Road here against Pasco Galacticos at 12:30 p.m.; and on Sunday, Sept. 26, it's back to  MCYSA action with a 2:30 game against Butler at Butler's Aaron Decker Field.
