Roxbury 2nd-half rally

defeats Lightning, 2-1

     DENVILLE - Presley Anderson gave the Denville HUB Soccer Lightning U9 girls travel team a 1-0 first-half lead but Roxbury Arsenal rallied with two goals in the second half to eke out a 2-1 victory in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Horseshoe Lake Park in Succasunna on Sunday, Nov. 7.
     Anderson scored on an assist from Chloe Driscol just four minutes into the game. Roxbury scored the equalizer 10 minutes into the second half and then scored the game-winning goal 10 minutes later.
     Julie Yan played the entire game in goal for the Lightning and finished with six saves. She had plenty of support from her defenders in front of her, namely Sydney Huber, Katelyn Walsh and Madison Verrone. The Lightning coaches also singled out Kylie Landolpfo for her solid game on both sides of the field.

Verrone, Landolpfo goals give Lightning 2-2 tie

     DENVILLE - Second-half goals by Madison Verrone and Kylie Landolpfo enabled the Denville HUB Soccer Lightning U9 girls travel team to rally for a 2-2 tie with Mendham in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Ralston Fields in Mendham on Sunday, Oct. 31.
      Mendham scored both its goal within a two-minute span midway through the first half to take a 2-0 lead before the Lightning started its comeback.
      Verrone scored unassisted 16 minutes into the second half to cut the lead to a goal and then Landolpfo scored the equalizer four minutes later.
      Emily Frie, with four saves, and Julie Yan, with five, split the keeper's duties for the Lightning and got plenty of help from a defense led by Katelyn Walsh, Sydney Huber and Chloe Driscoll.
      The Lightning are now 2-2-3 on the season.

Verrone's two goals edge Caldwell, 2-1

     DENVILLE - Madison Verrone's two second-half goals gave Denville's HUB Soccer Lightning U9 girls travel team a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over the Caldwell Cheetahs in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Jefferson Field in Caldwell on Sunday, Oct. 24.
     Caldwell scored its goal in the game's first minute, but Lightning keeper Julie Yan stopped the next 10 shots she faced to shut down the Cheetahs the rest of the way. She got plenty of help from a defense led by Sydney Huber, Katelyn Walsh and Chloe Driscoll.
     Verrone scored her first goal on an assist from Hanna Finzel 16 minutes into the second half and then added her unassisted game-winning goal nine minutes later when her hard shot from 18-feet out hit off the Cheetah goalie and went into the net.

Landolpfo, Verrone goals give Lightning first win

      DENVILLE - The Denville HUB Soccer Lightning U9 girls travel team won its first game of the fall season on its fourth try when it held off the Long Valley Tidal Wave, 2-1, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Todd Johnson Field here on Sunday, Oct. 3.
     Kylie Landolpfo scored an unassisted goal five minutes into the game to give the Lightning a 1-0 lead, a lead they never lost.
     Two minutes into the second half, Madison Verrone also scored an unassisted goal to give Denville a 2-0 lead.
 Long Valley finally broke through with its goal with a minute left to play in the game, but the Denville defense held the rest of the way and the Lightning had their one-goal victory.
     Julie Yan was in goal for the Lightning in the first half and finished with four saves. Sydney Huber, the Denville keeper in the second half of the game, also had four saves.
     Katelyn Walsh, Chloe Driscoll and Verrone were cited by the Lightning coaching staff for their solid defensive play throughout the game.

Roxbury Arsenal late goal beats Lightning, 3-2

     DENVILLE - Roxbury Arsenal's goal in the final two minutes of play was enough to beat the Denville HUB Soccer Lightning U9 girls travel team, 3-2, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Todd Johnson Field here on Saturday, Sept. 25.
     The late goal wiped out a comeback from a two-goal deficit by the Thunder as Roxbury scored at the 15-minute mark of each half to take a 2-0 lead.
     With 10 minutes to play, the Thunder's Presley Anderson scored an unassisted goal to cut the lead in half and, with three minutes left on the clock, Chloe Driscoll's goal with assist from Katelyn Walsh and Madison Verrone tied it at 2-2.
     The deadlock didn't last long, however, as Roxbury stormed back and was able to score the game-winner with less than two minutes left to play.
    Julie Yan and Carley Mahan split the keeper's duties for the Thunder as each played a half and each finished with three saves.

Lightning strikes twice in 3-2 loss to West Morris

    DENVILLE - The Denville HUB Soccer Lightning U9 girls travel team came from behind once but couldn't do it the second time when the West Morris Lightning scored the deciding goal with two minutes to play in a 3-2 victory over Denville in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Todd Johnson Field here on Sunday, Sept. 19.
      Presley Anderson scored with an assist from Kylie Landolf at the 12-minute mark to give Denville a 1-0 lead.  West Morris tied the game three minutes later and then scored at 10 minutes into the second half to take 2-1 lead.
      Anderson scored unassisted for her second goal of the game at the 25-minute mark to tie the score at 2-2 before West Morris countered with its late goal to win it.
     Julie Yan was in goal the entire game for Denville and finished with nine saves.
      The Denville coaching staff also singled out defenders Katelyn Walsh, Madison Verrone and Chloe Driscoll for their solid play throughout the game.

Lightning lose, 1-0, on Caldwell 2nd-half goal

     DENVILLE - A second-half goal by the Caldwell Cheetahs was the only score of the game in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association fall season opening-day matchup  between the Denville HUB Soccer Lightning U9 girls travel team and Caldwell played at Todd Johnson Field here on Sunday, Sept. 12.
      Julia Yan and Meghan Chegwidden split the duties in goal for the Lightning.
      Next up for the Denville squad is a 1 p.m.  game on Sunday, Sept. 19, against West Morris at Todd Johnson Field.
