Game Day: The Denville HUB Soccer Demons U10 boys fall travel team has been elevated to Flight 2 of the Morris County Youth Soccer League for the fall season.

 

They are the Champions! The Denville HUB Soccer Demons won the Flight 2 title in the 10U boys division of the Morris County Youth Soccer Association's 2010 fall season.

Demons win flight title;

Scalici scores 4 goals

      DENVILLE - Tommy Scalici scored four goals when the Denville HUB Soccer Demons travel soccer team clinched the U10 boys Flight 2 championship in its age division with a 5-1 victory over second-place Jefferson in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Fireman's Field in Jefferson on Sunday, Nov. 21.
      The Demons completed their flight schedule with an 8-1-1 record while Jefferson is 6-1-2 with one game left to play.
     Scalici scored the game's first goal with an assist from Thomas Fitzsimmons six minutes into the game and scored what proved to be the winning goal five minutes later when he scored an unassisted goal after moving through two Jefferson defenders with the ball.
   Jefferson scored its only goal of the game two minutes later and the score remained at 2-1 until the halftime break.
    In the second half it was all Denville as Scalici scored his third straight goal after taking a cross from Riley Furlong six minutes into the half; Scalici made it 4-1 when he controlled a rebound off a defensive player and put it in the corner of the net; and Garv Agarwal completed the scoring for the game when he scored from 30 yards out in the final minutes of play.
    Alex Pais and Steve Genung split the keeper's duties for Denville with Pais stopping seven shots in the first half and Genung finishing with eight saves in the second half.
     Robert Plumb led a strong defensive effort by marking and shutting down Jefferson's most dangerous offensive player. Jared Plattman, Spenser Barry, Jason Mooney and Agarwal also had solid defensive efforts for the Demons.

Demons beat Summit to set up showdown for Flight title
    DENVILLE -
The Denville HUB Soccer Demons 10B boys travel team put itself into position to win the Flight 2 championship in its age division with a 4-1 victory over Summit Vasco in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Todd Johnson Field here on Sunday, Nov. 14.
     The victory gives the Demons a 7-1-1 record that they will take into a their game against second-place Jefferson (6-1-1) on Sunday, Nov. 21, at Jefferson's Fireman's Field at 2:30 p.m. The Demons will clinch their flight title with a win.
     Tommy Scalici gave the Demons a 1-0 lead over Summit just seven minutes into their game when he scored the first of his two goals for the game after taking a pass from Riley Furlong.
     Thomas Fitzsimmons scored what proved to be the winning goal late in the first half when he converted a penalty kick.
     In the second half, Alex Pais scored his first goal of the season with an assist from Furlong and Scalici scored an unassisted goal to complete the Denville scoring. Summit scored its goal with minutes to play in the game.
    Stevie Genung and Aidan Schutt divided the goaltending duties for the Demons and Genung had six saves in the first half and Schutt stopped five shots in the second half.

Scalici hat trick helps Demons top United, 5-3

      DENVILLE - Tommy Scalici scored a three-goal hat trick  and added two assists when the Denville HUB Soccer Demons U10 boys travel soccer team beat Florham Park United, 5-3, in a Morris County Youth Soccer game at Todd Johnson Field here on Sunday, Nov. 7.
      Florham Park took a 1-0 lead on a goal at the six-minute mark, but Scalici got the Demons even with the first of his goals two minutes later after taking a pass from Aidan Schutt.
      In the 14th minute of play, the Demons took the lead for good when Scalici's shot hit the post and Anthony Donadio alertly got control of the rebound before putting it back into the United net to give Denville a 2-1 lead.
      The lead became 3-1 when Scalici was fouled just outside the penalty box and converted the direct free kick for his second goal of the game.
      United made it a one-goal game with its second goal of the game with five minutes to play in the first half.
      The Demons took a 4-2 lead just seven minutes into the second half when Schutt took a pass from Scalici and scored.
      Florham Park came back again and pulled to within a goal again with a score with 10 minutes left in the contest.
     With a minute left to play, Scalici completed his hat trick when he converted a penalty kick after United was called for a hand ball in the box.
      Stevie Genung was in goal for the first half and finished with five saves; Alex Pais and Schutt split the second-half goaltending duties for the Demons and each came up with key saves to hold Florham Park to a single second-half goal.
       The Demons, now 6-1-1 in Flight 2 of their age group, face the Summit Vasco on Sunday, Nov. 14, at Todd Johnson Field here in a 1:45 p.m. game.

Schutt, Donadio goals turn back Montville, 2-0
 
     DENVILLE - Aidan Schutt and Anthony Donadio each scored their first goal of the season when the Denville HUB Soccer Demons U10 boys travel team defeated Montville, 2-0, in a game played at Montville on Sunday, Oct. 31.
      Denville had many shots on net in the first half before Schutt scored just before the break on an assist from Robert Plumb.
      Eight minutes into the second half, the Demons scored their second goal of the game when Donadio took a pass from Tommy Scalici and found the upper right-hand corner of the net.
      Alex Pais and Stevie Genung split the keeper duties for the Demons (5-1-1) and each finished with five saves.

Demons split in tourney, beat Wayne in MCYSA

       DENVILLE - The Denville HUB Soccer Demons U10 boys travel team split its two games in the Mount Olive Halloween Tournament at Mount Olive on Saturday, Oct. 23, and then came back the next day to beat the Wayne Blue Stars, 2-1, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Wayne.
       The Demons defeated the host Mount Olive team, 3-1, to open their tournament play Saturday. Tommy Scalici scored two goals and assisted on a goal by Stephen Genung. Alex Pais and Aidan Schutt also had an assist for the Demons.
       Scalici scored his first goal midway through the first half. Later, he sent in a corner kick that Pais controlled before passing to Genung, who scored to give the Demons a 2-0 halfitme lead. Scalici scored his second goal in the second half with an assist from Schutt and Mount Olive scored late in the game off a free kick for its only goal.
       Schutt and Genung split the keeper duties for the Demons with Schutt stopping four saves in the first half and Genung stopping five second-half shots on goal.
       In the second game, the Demons suffered a 3-0 loss to the West Essex Crew.
       Team MVPs for each game were chosen by the opposing coaching staffs. Scalici was named by the Mount Olive coaches and Robert Plumb got the honor in the West Essex game.
       On Sunday, Oct. 25, the Scalici scored both goals as the Demons had to rally from a goal down to win their regular-season MCYSA game against the Blue Stars.
       The Blue Stars scored on a penalty kick for the only goal in the first half before Scalici tied the score at 1-1 with his first goal off a pass from Riley Furlong six minutes into the second half.
       Three minutes later, Scalici scored what proved to be the winner after taking a pass from Spenser Barry.
      Schutt and Genung split the goaltending duties with Schutt making several key saves in the first half to keep the Demons close and Genung stopping all six shots he saw in the second half.
      The Demons, now 4-1-1 in MCYSA play, face the Montville Mutiny on Sunday, Oct. 31, in a 2:15 p.m. game at Montville.

      DENVILLE - After going 3-0-1 in a preseason tournament and then 5-0 in their first five games in the fall season, the Denville HUB Soccer Demons U10 boys travel team finally lost a game.
      The Demons were beaten, 2-0, by the Jefferson Falcon Force in an Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Todd Johnson Field here on Sunday, Oct. 17.
      Jefferson scored five minutes into the game and then again midway through the second half. The Demons best scoring chances came late in the game, but they could not get a ball past the Jefferson keeper.
      The Demons will play in the Mount Olive Halloween Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 23, and return to MCYSA action the next day with a game at Wayne against the Wayne Blue Stars.

Scalici goal breaks 2-2 tie to give Demons win

     DENVILLE - Tommy Scalici's goal 10 minutes into the second half proved to be the game-winner when the Denville HUB Soccer Demons U10 boys travel team held off the Summit Vasco in Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Glenside Field in Summit on Sunday, Oct. 3.
     Thomas Fitzsimmons gave the Demons a 1-0 lead with his goal off an assist from Scalici in the early going. Stevie Genung gave the Demons a 2-0 lead when he converted a corner kick off the foot of Fitzsimmons.
     Summit got on the board late in the first half and then tied the game at 2-2 with a goal early in the second half.
     Scalici, after taking a pass from Aidan Schutt, then drove home the game-winner just minutes later and then the defenses and goalies took over and the game remained scoreless the rest of the way.
     Riley Furlong, Robert Plumb and Spenser Barry put up a strong defense in front of Demon goalies Alex Pais and Genung. Pais was in goal the first half and finished with seven saves; Genung made six saves in the second half.
     The Demons next MCYSA game is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 17, against the Jefferson Falcon Force at Todd Johnson Field here at 1 p.m.

Scalici's hat trick, Furlong's 2 goals lift Demons

      DENVILLE - Tommy Scalici scored a three-goal hat trick and Rick Furlong added two goals when the Denville HUB Soccer Demons U10 boys travel team defeated Florham Park, 8-1, in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Florham Park on Sunday, Sept 26.
 The Demons took a quick 2-0 lead when Scalici scored the first of his three goals with a left-foot shot from the left of the net and Furlong scored unassisted on a shot from the left side of the penalty box.
 Florham Park scored its only goal of the game to cut the lead to a goal at 2-1, but the Demons answered with three goals in the final eight minutes of the half to take a commanding 5-1 lead at the break.
     Furlong scored his second goal of the game on a penalty kick; Konner Ingram made it 4-1 with an assist from Thomas Fitzsimmons; and Scalici scored his second goal of the game with an assist from Ingram.
     Scalici got the second-half scoring started early with a goal after taking a pass from Stevie Genung; Robert Plumb scored a goal on a pass from Ingram; and Spenser Barry scored the final goal of the game with an assist from Scalici.
    Genung was the Demons' keeper in the first half when he stopped seven of the eight shots on goal he faced. Aiden Schutt was the second-half keeper for Denville and he finished his stay in goal with two saves.
     The Demons travel to Summit on Sunday, Oct. 3, for a 2 p.m. game against the Summitt Vasco.

Demons win 'Challenge' on Genung, Scalici goals
      DENVILLE -
  Stevie Genung and Tommy Scalici each scored a goal to lead the Denville HUB Soccer Demons U10 boys travel team to a 2-0 victory over the Rockaway Sharks in a Denville-Rockaway Soccer Challenge game held at Todd Johnson Field here on Saturday, Sept. 25.
     Genung got his goal on a deflection off a Rockaway defender in the first half  and Scaalici scored with seven minutes to play when he stole the ball from a defender and was able to get off a shot on the Rockaway keeper before being marked.
     Alex Pais and Aidan Schutt shared the shutout as each played a half in the Denville nets.

Scalici first-half goals give Demons 2-2 tie

      DENVILLE - Two first-half goals by Tommy Scalici of the Denville HUB Soccer Demons U10 boys travel team were matched by two second-half goals by the Montville Mutiny as the two teams played to a 2-2 tie in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association game played at Todd Johnson Field here on Sunday, Sept. 20.
      Scalici pounced on his own rebound of a missed shot and beat the Mutiny keeper on his second try to open the game's scoring six minutes into the contest.
      Midway through the first half, Scalici scored on a pass from Stephen Genung to give the Demons a 2-0 lead going into the halftime break.
      Montville countered with its two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half and Denville, despite getting several quality shots on goal, couldn't break the stalemate.
      Robert Plumb took the ball to the right side of the penalty box before shooting, but the Mutiny keeper made a great save in denying the Demon goal.
      Later in the half, Scalici took the ball down the left side, made a move to the middle, and got off a hard shot that hit the post.
      Aidan Schutt and Genung split the goaltending duties for the Demons and each turned in five saves the half that they played.
      The Demons play twice this coming weekend, facing the Rockaway Sharks in the Denville-Rockaway Challenge on Saturday, Sept. 25, and then returning to MCYSA action with a 4 p.m. game on Sunday, Sept. 26, against Florham Park at Florham Park.

Furlong's second-half goal leads Demons to 2-1 win

     DENVILLE - Riley Furlong's goal five minutes into the second half broke a 1-1 tie and to give the HUB Soccer Demons U10 boys travel team a 2-1 victory over the Wayne Blue Stars in a Morris County Youth Soccer Association fall season opener played at Wayne on Sunday, Sept. 12.
      Furlong was assisted on the game-winner by Konner Ingram.
 Denville took a 1-0 lead six minutes into the contest when Tommy Scalici controlled a rebound off his own shot and put it back behind the Stars goalie.
     Wayne tied the score at 1-1 on a direct kick from just outside the 18-foot line.
      Stephen Genung and Alex Pais split the keeper's duties for the Demons and finished the game with a combined seven saves. The goalies got plenty of help from defenders Robert Plumb, Spenser Barry, Aidan Schutt, Jason Mooney and Jarred Plattman.
      Next up for the Demons is a Sunday (Sept. 19) game against the Montville Mutiny at Todd Johnson Field here at 1 p.m.

Demons 3-0-1 in tourney to open fall season

     DENVILLE - The HUB Soccer Denville Demons boys U10 travel soccer team tuned up for its move upward to Flight 2 for the fall season of the Morris County Youth Soccer League (MCYSL) by winning three games and tying one in the recent Branchburg Labor Day Tournament.
     The Demons outscored their opposition, nine goals to four, and registered two shutouts in the two-day tournament.
     On Saturday, Sept. 4, the Demons opened tournament play with a come-from-behind 4-2 victory over the Mountain Lakes Dragons and battled the Readington Rowdies to a 2-2 draw. The two shutouts came on Sunday, Sept. 5, when the Demons stopped the Branchburg Crossfire, 1-0, before beatingClake United, 2-0, in their final tournament game.
     Trailing 2-0 against Mountain Lakes, the Demons scored the last four goals of the game - two each by Tommy Scalici and Riley Furlong - for the win.

     Scalici's penalty-kick goal late in the half brought the Demons to  within a goal at the halftime break. Furlong tied it with an unassisted goal early in the second half; Scalici scored on a pass from Furlong to put the Demons ahead to stay; and Furlong scored again, this time on a cross from Garv Agarwal, to an insureance goal.
    Against Readington, the Rowdies scored the only goal of the first half and the Demons didn't get on the board until Scalici scored on a pass from Robert Plumb early in the second half. With three minutes left in the game, Furlong sent a cross to Konner Ingram who scored a goal to give the Demons a 2-1 but Readington earned its tie with a goal in the last 15 seconds of the game.
     Furlong's goal late in the first half and the shutout goaltending of Steven Genung and Alex Pais gave the Demons their 1-0 victory over Branchburg. Furlong took a free ball and worked his way through two defenders before scoring. Garv Agarwal, Jared Plattman, Spenser Barry, and Plumb played solid defense in front of Genung and Pais.
     In the final game, Pais scored on a cross from Furlong in the game's first minute and the second goal came five minutes later when Agarwal got a big clear from the defensive end and Scalici got to the ball and took it the rest of the way, slipping it past the United goalie who had come out on the play to challenge Scalici.
    Genung and Pais split the keeper's duties again to share their second shutout of the day.
