Game Day: No, we don't normally cover our friends and neighbors in the Mountain Lakes High School athletic community, but Herd head coach Doug Wilkins & Co. and their unbeaten state championship season is certainly worth a pictorial and numerical mention here.

The Mountain Lakes High School football team, let by its lance-carrying captains, prepare to take to the field to face Butler in the North 1, Group 1 state championship game at Giants Stadium in Rutherford on Sunday, Dec. 6. The Herd won, 48-7, to finish its second straight season at 12-0 and with a state title.

For the past 44 football seasons at Mountain Lakes High School, head coach Doug Wilkins has had pre-game talks with his players before sending them out to battle.

Austin DiMarco with one of his 13 carries that resulted in 163

yards rushing and three touchdowns.

It's DiMarco again, pulling out of the grasp of a would-be tackler to pick up

some additional yardage for the Herd.

Kevin Ryan (20) is about to be brought down by two Butler tacklers.

John Muti (40) covers the ball as special team members Alec Fernandez (83), Max Boerstoel (85) and Mike O'Rourke (68) move in on play.

Even the Mountain Lakes players on the sidelines were into the game.

It's never too cold (or snowy, or wet, or windy, or ... ) for the Mountain

Lakes faithful to follow their Herd.

MIssion accomplished ...
