DENVILLE - Macra Desai's third-period goal gave the Denville PAL Squirts ice hockey team a 3-2 victory over Rockaway Township in a Morris County Youth Hockey League game played at Mennen Arena in Morris Township on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011.
Desai's goal midway through the third period was unassisted and broke a 2-2 tie.
Rockaway Township scored first with the game 7:12 old, but Denville answered 11:04 into the period when Frankie Baccaro scored.
The teams also each scored a goal in the second period, Rockaway Township taking a 2-1 lead on a goal four minutes into the period and Denville tying the game again when Jack Mendolsohn intercepted a pass in the Rockaway zone and scored late in the period.
Denville goalie Peter Papdopolous finished the game with 13 saves while his teammate put 16 shots on the Rockaway Township goaltender.

Conklin, Balara goals in 3rd lead to comeback win
DENVILLE - Goals by Kyle Conklin and Vincent Balara enabled the Denville PAL Squirts hockey team to come back from a one-goal deficit and edge Harding-Madison, 4-3, in a Morris County Youth Hockey League game played at Mennen Arena in Morris Township on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011.
Balara, who finished the game with two goals and an assist, got the only goal of the first period as Denville (6-6) took a 1-0 lead.
But Harding-Madison scored all three of its goals in the third period to take a 3-2 lead into the final period. Christos Caminis scored Denville's only goal with an assist from Balara.
With 7:24 left in the game, Conklin scored an unassisted goal to bring Denville into a 3-3 tie with Harding-Madison and Balara followed with 5:48 to go with another unassisted goal to give Denville its one-goal victory.
Peter Papadopous was in goal the entire game for Denville and he finished with 27 saves. He got a lot of help from defenders Frankie Baccaro, Tik Ryerson and Conklin to keep Harding-Madison off the board in the final period. Denville got its four goals on only 16 shots on the Harding-Madison goal.
Denville's next game is an 8:45 a.m. start against Chatham on Sunday, Jan. 23, at Mennen.

Perretta brothers, Swagulinski spark 9-0 win
DENVILLE - Ryan Perretta scored two goals and added two assists - one of which was on a goal scored by his younger brother Brendon - when the Denville PAL Squirts beat Roxbury, 9-0, in a Morris County Youth Hockey League game played at Mennen Arena on Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011.
Brendon Perretta, called up from the Mites team to give the Squirts 10 skaters, scored what proved to be the winning goal on a power play with 9:28 left in the first period when he converted a pass from his brother Ryan.
As it turned out, it was the only goal Denville goaltender Matt Swagulinski needed to post his first shutout as a Squirt. Swagulinski, who stopped all three shots he faced, was also called up from the Mites for the game.
Rob Singley gave Denville a 2-0 lead when he scored with an assist from Jake Mendolsohn with 3:16 left in the first period.
Denville (5-6) put the game out of reach with a five-goal flurry in the second period when Ryan Perretta scored twice and Katie Flood, Caleb Tomkins and David Sudit each added one goal.
Ryan Perretta scored two unassisted goals just 27 seconds apart less than four minutes into the period. Flood scored with an assist from Ryan Perretta; Tomkins scored unassisted, and David Sudit scored with an assist from Robbie Singley with all three goals coming within a 35-second span to give Denville a 7-0 lead going into the third period.
Nick Mangano scored an unassisted goal with 4:56 to play in the third period and Tomkins added his second goal of the game - also unassisted - with two minutes left on the clock for the game's final goal.
The Denville Squirts face Harding-Madison next in a 7:30 a.m. contest on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at Mennen.

Matthews, Perretta score in loss to Jefferson
DENVILLE - Tommy Matthews and Ryan Perretta scored goals when the Denville PAL Squirts lost a 10-2 decision to Jefferson in a Morris County Youth Hockey League game played at Mennen Arena on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011.
Matthews scored an unassisted goal with 5:06 left in the first period and Perretta also had an unassisted goal, this one coming with 11:27 to play in the game.

Knights bow to Ridge, 6-5; Parretta scores 2 goals
DENVILLE - The Denville PAL Blue Knights Squirt hockey team lost a back-and-forth battle against Ridge on Sunday, Dec. 12, and lost a 6-5 decision in a Morris County Youth Hockey League game played at Mennen Arena in Morris Township.
Ryan Perretta - who finished the game with two goals and two assists for the Blue Knights - scored on an unassisted breakaway with 11:16 left in the first period to give Denville a 1-0 lead.
Ridge came right back with goals with 7:41 to go and 51 seconds to go in the period to take a 2-1 lead. Denville's Christos Caminis then scored on a breakaway in the final 28 seconds of the period to send the game into the second period tied at 2-2.
Ridge scored with 11:01 left and 6:49 left in the second period to take a 4-2 lead, but Jake Mendelsohn pulled Denville back to within a goal when he scored on an assist from Perretta with 1:43 left in the period.
The game continued it back-and-forth style in the final period when Ridge scored on a breakaway for a 5-3 lead; Perretta scored his second goal to cut the gap to 5-4; Ridge scored just 35 seconds later to regain it's two-goal lead at 6-4; and Daniel Samtani scored a short-handed goal for Denville on assists from Tik Ryerson and Perretta to make it 6-5 with 7:18 to go.
The defenses and goalies took over for the rest of the game and Ridge was able to escape with its one-goal victory.
Peter Papadopolous was in goal for Denville and he finished with 24 saves for the game, getting good support in front of him from defenders Kyle Conklin, Frankie Baccaro, Derek Rooney, Tyerson and Mendolsohn.
Denville's next game is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 19, against Long Valley at Mennen at 8:45 a.m.

Blue Knights' 5-goal 2nd period wins, 7-5
DENVILLE - Kyle Conklin scored three goals in a five-goal second period when the Denville PAL Blue Knights Squirts Division hockey team came from behind to defeat Harding-Madison, 7-5, in a Morris County Youth Hockey League game played at Mennen Arena in Morris Township on Friday, Nov. 19.
Trailing 2-0 after one period of play, Denville got its first goal of the game when Conklin scored with an assist from Frankie Baccaro 7:57 into the second period.
Harding-Madison scored less than a minute later to regain its two-goal lead but Denville came back late in the period and scored four times in less than two minutes to take the lead for good.
Ryan Perretta scored with an assist by Daniel Samtani with 2:54 left in the period; Conklin got his second goal of the period with an assist from Austen Quagliero with 2:14 to go; Conklin completed his hat trick with an unassisted goal with 1:46 left; and Katie Flood ended the four-goal blitz with an unassisted goal with 1:09 to go for her first goal of the season.
Harding-Madison pulled to within a goal at 5-4 with a goal in the final 17 seconds of the second period.
In the first minute of play in the third period, Samtani took a clearing pass from goalie Peter Papadopoulous and took it the rest of the way to score to give Denville a 6-4 lead. Harding-Madison once again answered with a goal with 9:23 to go and David Sudit gave Denville an insurance goal when he scored the final goal of the game unassisted with 17 seconds left on the game clock.
Papadopoulos finished with 24 saves and got a lot of help from a Blue Knight defensive corps led by Ethan Hempel and Jake Mendelsohn.
The next game for the Blue Knights is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, against Jefferson at Mennen Arena.

Knights' eight-goal third beats Randolph
DENVILLE - The Denville PAL Blue Knights Squirt Division hockey team scored eight goals in the final six minutes of the game - two each by Ryan Perretta, David Sudit and Daniel Samtani - to rally from a three-goal first-period deficit and beat Randolph, 10-5, in a Morris County Youth Hockey League game played at Mennen Arena in Morris Township on Sunday, Nov. 14.
Perretta, who finished with a hat trick, got the only Denville goal in a first period that saw Randolph score four times. Jacob Walsh got credit for the assist on Perretta's goal.
Caleb Tomkins, with an assist from Kyle Conklin, scored the only goal of the second period to make it 4-2 as the Blue Knight defense shut down the Randolph attack.
Sudit, Samtani, Macara Desai and Sudit again scored four unassisted goals before Perretta scored on a breakaway for his second goal of the game. Pete Papadopoulos got the Blue Knights' sixth goal of the period and then Perretta completed his three-goal hat trick with another breakaway goal before Samtani scored his second goal of the period to compete the scoring for the game.
Justin Wellman was in goal for the entire game and finished with 20 saves, allowing but one goal in the final two periods of play.
Wellman had plenty of help from a solid defensive effort put in by Frankie Baccaro, Derek Rooney and Conklin.
The next game for the Blue Knights is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, against Harding/Madison at Mennen.

Peretta's six goals lead Knights to 12-2 win over Hanover
DENVILLE - Ryan Peretta scored six goals and Robbie Singley and Daniel Samtani each added two when the Denville PAL Blue Knights travel hockey team beat Hanover, 12-2, in a Morris County Youth Hockey League game played at Mennen Arena in Morris Township on Sunday, Nov. 7.
Singley, Samatani, Peretta and Ethan Hempel scored first-period goals - Hempel's coming with 17 seconds left in the period - as the Blue Knights took a 4-1 lead.
Peretta scored three goals and Singley, Samtani and Christos Caminis each added one in a six-goal second period that saw Denville increase its lead to 10-2. Peretta scored the only two goals of the third period.
Kyle Conklin and Singley each finished with two assists while Billy Gleeson, Samtani, Hempel and Caminis each had one.
Chris Armelino was in goal the entire game for the Blue Knights and he finished with seven saves. Denville finished with a 34-9 shot-on-goal advantage.
