Blue Angels finish at 10-0
with 33-6 win over Par Hills

DENVILLE - Cole Franchi scored two touchdowns and Nick Vittorio threw for two touchdowns when the Denville Blue Angel peewee youth football team concluded unbeaten season by beating Parsippany Hills, 33-6, in a Morris County Youth Football League game played at Jannarone Park in Parsippany on Sunday, Nov. 14.
Denville, which clinched the Hills Division title in the MCYFL National Confernece a week ago, won all 10 league games it played this season.
Vittorio got the scoring parade started with a 62-yard touchdown pass to August Blumhoefer followed by Rich Boyle's one-point conversion pass to Franchi for a 7-0 Blue Angel lead.
The lead moved to 13-0 at the half when Franchi scored on a 1-yard burst through the middle behind the blocks of Adam Wagner and Tyler Faccenda.
On Denville's first play from scrimmage in the second half, Jared Sorce took off around left end and, after cutting off a block by Tommy Vollmar at the corner, ran 46 yards untouched into the Par Hills endzone to a 19-0 Blue Angel lead.
Franchi scored his second TD of the day on a 12-yard pass from Vittorio and Boyle follwed with a 2-point conversion kick to give Denville a 27-0 lead going into the final period of play.
Nick Rupp, following the blocking of Karson Kohl, Anthony Lazzaro and Tyler Fazio, scored Denville's final points of the game on a 24-yard run.
Sorce finished as the team's leading rusher for the game with 52 yards on three carries; Rupp added 38 yards on four rushes; Vittorio finished 2-for-3 passing for 74 yards and two TDs; and the team gained 220 yards total offense.
On defense, Franchi had a team-high five tackles followed by Vittorio, who had four; Boyle had a 40-yard TD run with an interception called back on a penalty, but the Blue Angels still went in to score on the series after the turnover; Sorce recovered a fumble caused by Boyle; and the team held Par Hills to 84 yards total offense for the game.
For the season, the Blue Angels outscored their opposition, 238-31; Denville had the better of it in takeaways, 19-3; and the team trailed but once during its 10-game schedule.
"It was a dominating season for this team," said head coach Peter Franchi after the game. "The players earned everything they got, though, because they worked hard in practice and even harder during the games.
"There is a lot of talent on this team, true, but one of the key ingrediants to their success was the way they all got along, pulled for each other and had fun playing a game that they love.
"You want a definition for the word 'team' and all you have to do is to look at the 2010 Denville Blue Angel peewees."

TDs by Sorce (2), Vittorio lead Blue Angels, 23-7
DENVILLE - Jared Sorce scored two touchdowns and Nick Vittorio add one as the unbeaten Denville Blue Angels peewee team improved to 9-0 with one game left by beating the Jr. Knights, 23-7, in a Morris County Youth Football League game played at Donatoni Park in Rockaway on Saturday (Nov. 6) evening.
The Blue Angels, who clinched the Morris Division championship of the American Conference of the MCYFL last week, will face Parsippany Hills (3-4-1) on Sunday, Nov. 14, at Jannarone Field in Parsippany at noon in an attempt to finish the season with a perfect 10-0 record.
Vittorio opened the scoring when he followed the blocking of Tommy Vollmar, Cole Franchi and Max Boralsky around left end for a 15-yard touchdown run. A PAT pass from Rich Boyle to Franchi gave the Blue Angels a 7-0 first-period lead.
The key play in the scoring drive was a 30-yard pass from Vittorio to Auggie Blumhoefer.
Sorce scored the first of his two TDs when he followed Nick Rupp and Hunter Covello around left end for a two-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Boyle added the first of his two-point conversion kicks and Denville took a 15-0 lead into the halftime break.
Sorce's second TD came in the third period when he scored on a two-run burst through the middle behind a block by Mike Kuser. Boyle added the two-point conversion kick to give the Blue Angels a 23-0 lead and finish the team's scoring for the game.
Two big plays in this drive included a Vittorio-to-Max Boralsky 27-yard pass off a scramble and a 21-yard halfback pass from Boyle to Franchi that brought the Blue Angels to the 2-yard line, from where Sorce scored.
Vittorio finished 5-for-6 passing for 92 yards; Boyle caught two balls for 24 yards; Franchi was the team's leading rusher with 68 yards on 10 carries; and Sorce added 55 yards and his two TDs on 12 carries.
Denville finished the game with 288 total yards while holding the Jr. Knights to 84 yards worth of offense. The Jr. Knights scored their touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
On defense, Boyle had a team-high five tackles and Vittorio finished with four.

Blue Angels (8-0) win Morris Division title
DENVILLE - The unbeaten Denville Blue Angels peewee team captured the Morris Division championship in the American Conference of the Morris County Youth Football League with a 29-0 victory over Newton in a game played at Gardner Field here on Saturday, Oct. 30.
Denville is now 8-0 and alone in first place while second-place Hackettstown is 5-2 after losing to Hanover, 7-0, this past weekend. Denville has one regular-season game left; Hackettstown has two.
In Saturday's game against Newton, four different Blue Angels scored touchdowns - one in each quarter - and the defense produced its sixth shutout in eight games. Denville has now outscored its opponents 182-18, allowing 12 points to Hackettstown in an 18-12 victory and six points to Boonton in a 33-6 victory in which Boonton scored on the last play of the game.
Cole Franchi scored on the Blue Angels' first play from scrimmage when he took off on a 51-yard TD run after breaking through the Newton defensive line behind blocks by August Blumhoefer and Tommy Vollmar. Rich Boyle passed to Franchi for the extra point and the Blue Angels had a 7-0 first-quarter lead.
Vollmar followed the blocking of Tyler Faccenda to score on a one-yard plunge in the second quarter and Rich Boyle kicked the two-point PAT for a 15-0 lead, Denville's first two-point conversion kick of the season. A Vittorio-to-Blumhoefer 28-yard pass and a Boyle-to-Franchi pass for 10 yards kept the drive alive.
In the third period, Denville's Nick Vittorio stripped the football from a Newton running back and returned it 35 yards for the TD. The PAT failed and the Blue Angels took a 21-0 lead into the final quarter.
Jared Sorce accounted for the final Blue Angel TD, breaking loose around the left side for an 81-yard touchdown run. Boyle kicked the 2-point PAT to end the scoring for the game.
Offensive highlights included Sorce's 99 yards rushing and one TD on four carries; and Vittorio and Boyle combining to go 4-for-4 passing for 45 yards.
On defense, Vollmar had seven tackles and Franchi finished with six to lead the Blue Angels; Franchi recovered a fumble; and Dominick D'Altilio had a sack.
The Blue Angel peewees play their next game against the Junior Knights on Saturday, Nov. 6, in a 5 p.m. game at Donatoni Park in Rockaway. Their season ends on Sunday, Nov. 14, with a noon game against Parsippany Hills at Jannarone Park in Parsippany.

PeeWees stay unbeaten with 12-0 win over Dover
DENVILLE - The unbeaten Denville Blue Angel peewee team allowed no first downs and only 17 yards of offense to record its fifth shutout of the season, a 12-0 victory over Dover in a Morris County Youth Football League game played on Sunday, Oct. 24, at Gardner Field here.
Cole Franchi and Nick Vittorio scored touchdowns to provide the Blue Angels (7-0) with the offense they needed to stay on top of the league's Morris Division standings in the American Conference of the league, a game-and-a-half ahead of Hackettstown (5-1).
Franchi scored on a 4-yard run around right end in the third period, breaking a tackle in the backfield before crossing the goal; and Vittorio scored on a 2-yard quarterback sneak in the third quarter, ducking into the endzone behind a wall of blockers consisting of linemen Erik Gustavson, Adam Wagner and Dominick D'Altilio.
Franchi finished with 93 yards rushing on 12 carries; Vittorio was 5-for-5 passing for 65 yards, including a 21-yard pass to Auggie Blumhoefer and a 25-yarder to Richie Boyle on Denville's second scoring drive.
Denville has outscored its seven opponents, 153 points to 18.
Defensive highlights include Franchi's fourth-quarter hit that caused a fumble that was recovered by Nick Rupp and Vittorio's team-leading four tackles.
The peewees face Newton next on Saturday, Oct. 30, in a 5 p.m. game at Gardner Field here.

Boyle-to-Blumhoefer TD give Angels win in OT
DENVILLE - Rich Boyle, in at quarterback because starting QB Nick Vittorio went out before the half with an injury, threw the winning touchdown pass in overtime to lead the Denville Blue Angels peewee team to an 18-12 victory over Hackettstown in a Morris County Youth Football League game played in Hackettstown on Sunday, Oct. 17.
The victory left the Blue Angels unbeaten at 6-0 while the loss was the first of the season for the Hackettstown Little Tigers, who are now 4-1. Denville now has sole possession of first place in the Morris Division of the American Conference of the MCYFL with Hackettstown a game-and-a-half back in second.
With the score tied at 12-12 at the end of regulation, Denville got the ball first in the extra session and had four plays to score from the Hackettstown 10-yard line. Two plays netted zero yardage and then Boyle hit August Blumhoefer for what proved to be the winning touchdown when the Denville defense held Roxbury in its four plays from the Denville 10-yard line.
Hackettstown sent the game into overtime with a touchdown with two minutes remaining and then Cole Franchi broke up the ensuing try for the extra point when he knocked the ball out of the Hackettstown quarterback's hands.
Denville went three-and-out after the kickoff and Hackettstown's last bid for a winning score failed when Jared Sorce intercepted a pass on the Denville 35-yard line and returned it to the Hackettstown 25-yard line as time ran out.
Hackettstown scored the only six points of the first half with 1:45 left to go in the second period.
The Rockets pulled into a 6-6 tie when on a third-quarter 4-yard touchdown run by Sorce, who scored behind a block by Karson Kohl.
Franchi put Denville ahead 12-6 in the fourth quarter when he scored on a 26-yard run, getting a good block from Sorce near the line of scrimmage and block downfield from Blumhoefer.
But Hackettstown got its tying TD in the final two minutes of regulation to send the game into overtime ... and set up the Boyle to Blumhoefer winning TD pass.

Sorce's two TDs help Blue Angels win, 33-6
DENVILLE - Jared Sorce scored the first of his two touchdowns on the second play from scrimmage when the unbeaten Denville Blue Angel peewees defeated Boonton-Mtn. Lakes, 33-6 in a Morris County Youth Football League game played at Gardner Field here on Saturday, Oct. 9.
The victory was the fifth of the season for Denville and kept the team on top of the Morris Division of the American Conference in the MCYFL with a 5-0 record, a half-game ahead of Hackettstown (4-0) which had a bye week this past weekend. The two teams meet in an attempt to break the deadlock at noon on Sunday, Oct. 17, at Morrison Field in Hackettstown.
Sorce broke off a 46-yard touchdown run behind the blocking of Brett Decker to give the Blue Angels of 6-0 lead and Cole Franchi add the extra point on a run.
The Blue Angels ripped off two more 40-yard-plus runs before the quarter ended as Franchi burst through the middle of the Boonton/ML line behind a block by Karson Kohl and scored on a 44-yard run and Nick Vittorio scored on a 46-yard bootleg with Tommy Vollmar throwing a key block.
In the second quarter, Nick Rupp got a block from Dominick D'Altilio that sprung him around right end for a 15-yard TD run and Vittorio completed a pass to Hunter Covello for the conversion point that gave Denville a 26-0 lead at the halftime break.
Sorce scored his second and Denville's last TD in the third period when he swept left end from 25 yards out and the final point was scored when Vittorio completed a conversion pass to Max Boralsky.
Boonton-ML became the first team to score on the Blue Angels' defense when it score a touchdown on a 42-yard run on the final play of the game.
Sorce finished the game with 70 yards rushing on only three carries; Franchi had four rushes for 58 yards; and Vittorio added 57 yards rushing on only two carries.
On defense, the Blue Angels held Boonton/ML to eight yards of offense before B/ML broke its 42-yard TD run on the last play of the game.
Nick Donadio led the team in tackles with four; Alex Kulik and Franchi forced fumbles; and Tyler Faccenda, D'Altilio, and Nick Donadio recovered fumbles for the Blue Angels.

Defense posts 4th shutout for unbeaten PeeWees
DENVILLE - Jared Sorce scored two touchdowns and Nick Vittorio returned the opening kickoff for a TD when the unbeaten and unscored upon Denville Blue Angels peewee team defeated Madison, 25-0, in a Morris County Youth Football League game at Gardner Field here on Sunday, Oct. 3.
The win was the fourth in a row for the peewees and leaves them in a tie for first place with Hackettstown in the Morris Division of the American Conference in the MCYFL.
Vittorio galloped 67 yards for the opening TD; Sorce scored his first TD on a 32-yard run behind a block by Tommy Vollmar; and August Blumhoefer scored on a 15-yard pass reception from Vittorio to give the Blue Angels a commanding 19-0 lead after only one quarter of play.
Sorce scored his second TD on a 60-yard run in the third period behind the blocking of Alex Kulik and Vollmar to end the scoring for the game. Nick Rupp scored on a one-point conversion run after Vittorio's TD to complete the Denville scoring.
Defensive highlights were many. Kulik recovered an onsides kick after Denville's second TD; Cole Franchi forced a Madison fumble that Erik Gustavson recovered; Rupp, who led the team in tackles with four, intercepted a pass on the Denville 25-yard line with a minute left in the first half; Max Boralsky sacked the Madsion QB to stop a third-quarter drive; Kulik recovered a Madison fumble on Denville's kickoff following its fourth TD; and Sorce intercepted a pass on the final play of the game.
Sorce led the offense with his 10 carries for 100 yards and two touchdowns.

Three long-distance TDs, third shutout stop Hanover
DENVILLE - The Blue Angels went long distance on all three of its TDs when Denville stopped Hanover, 19-0, in a Morris County Youth Football League peewee division game played at Whippany Park High School on Sunday, Sept. 26.
The victory makes Denville 3-0 and tied for first place with Hackettstown in the Morris Division of the American Conference of the MCYFL. The shutout was Denville's third, making the Blue Angels unscored upon for the 2010 season.
Jared Sorce scored on a 68-yard run in the first period; Nick Vittorio added a 78-yard touchdown run in the second period; and Vittorio threw a third-period 73-yard touchdown pass to August Blumhoefer for the only score in the second half.
Sorce followed the blocking of Tyler Faccenda, Brett Decker and Erik Gustavson on his long TD run. Sorce also ran for the Blue Angels' one-point conversion. Vittorio was able to turn the left corner behind a block by Tommy Vollmer and then it was down the left sideline for his TD.
Denville held Hanover to 26 yards of total offense and one first down for the game. Nick Donadio led the defense with four tackles; Alex Kulik had an interception late in the game; Mike Kusar had he game's only sack in the fourth quarter; and Vittorio recovered a fumble for the Blue Angels.

Vittorio's 2 TD passes help beat Hopatcong
DENVILLE - Quarterback Nick Vittorio threw two touchdown passes and Max Boralsky caught one for a TD and returned an interception for another TD when the Denville Blue Angels defeated Hopatcong, 19-0, in a Morris County Youth Football League peewee game on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Gardner Field here.
Vittorio gave the Blue Angels (2-0) a quick lead with a 57-yard touchdown pass to Boralsky and Vittorio made it 13-0 when he hit August Blumhoefer with a 7-yard TD pass and Nick Rupp followed with a one-point conversion run.
Vittorio finished the day 4-for-4 passing for 80 yards and his two TDs.
Boralsky scored his second TD of the day and the final points of the game when he returned a third-quarter interception 55 yards for a touchdown. Boralsky's pick was aided by a tremendous pass rush by Tyler Faccenda and Hunter Covello on the play.
The shutout was sparked by a defense that was led by Cole Franchi, who recorded six tackles; and August Blumhoefer, who finished with five tackles.
The Blue Angel peewees are now 2-0 and tied with Hackettstown for the lead in the Morris Division of the American Conference of the MCYFL.

Boyle's return TD, defense spark 27-0 victory
DENVILLE - Rich Boyle scored on a 68-yard punt return and the Blue Angel defense held Lenape Valley to minus-4 yards of offense as Denville won a 27-0 decision in a Morris County Youth Football League peewee game played at Indian Field in Netcong on Sunday, Sept. 12.
Cole Franchi, Jared Sorce and Nick Vittorio had touchdown runs and Sorce ran for two one-point convesions and Franchi added one to complete the Blue Angel scoring.
Boyle's TD came in the third quarer and extented the Denville lead to 21-0 after Franchi ran in the extra point.
"Rich's run was amazing," said Blue Angel head coach Peter Franchi after the game. "He danced down the right sideline avoiding tackle after tackle and still managed to stay in bounds."
Franchi scored the game's first points, running behind a block by Nick Rupp for a 23-yard TD run. Sorce made it 14-0 at the half as he scored on a 23-yard run on the final play of the second quarter. Sorce scored his two conversion runs after the first two Blue Angel TDs.
Boyle's punt-return TD and Franchi's PAT run gave Denville a 21-0 lead after three periods of play and Vittorio capped the day's scoring with a 7-yard TD run in the final period.
The next game for the peewees is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 18, against Hopatcong at Gardner Field here. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
Notes: Josh Frio led Denville's defense with three solo tackles ... in spite of the rain and wet field conditions, there were no turnovers in the game ... Denville allowed but one first down for the entire game. ...
