Denville LL to hold mandatory manager/coach meeting

    DENVILLE - Denville Little League will hold a mandatory meeting for all 2010 managers and coaches on Tuesday, March 16, at Morris Knolls High School at 7 p.m.
    A training session for managers and coaches conducted by the Morris Knolls baseball coaches will also be held at this time.

HUB Soccer now accepting registrations for spring

    DENVILLE - HUB Soccer of Denville is now accepting registrations for its spring Munchkin afternoon soccer session for children from 3 1/2 to 5 years of age.
    The Munchkins play on Wednesday afternoons at 1 p.m. and on Saturday afternoons at a time to be announced in April. The registration fee is $70 for each child.
    Registration is also in progress for spring recreation soccer for children in grades Pre-K through fourth grade. Pre-Ks must be age 4 by April 1. The registration fee for spring soccer is $55 a player with a family maximum of $110 for two or more players.
    The recreation group plays once during the week at 6 p.m. and on Saturday afternoons. Specific days for each grade-level team and Saturday start times will not be available until early April.

Rockaway River Spring Cleanup set April 3

    ROCKAWAY - Potbelly's Riverside Cafe on will hold its second annual Rockaway River Spring Cleanup on Saturday, April 3, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cleanup crews will work from the falls behind the borough's fire house and move downstream as far as time permits.
     Rob Grow, the co-owner of Potbelly's and coordinator of the cleanup, is looking for youth groups to clean up the shorelines, kayakers or canoeists to help locate refuse in the river, and hardy souls with waders to do the dirty work and haul the trash out of the muck.
     Interested parties are asked to call Grow at 201-602-6835 and let him know you're willing to help and how many people you'll be bringing with you.

HUB Soccer taking applications for  annual scholarship

     DENVILLE - HUB Soccer of Denville and the 8 v 8 Summer League are once again co-sponsoring an academic scholarship for a Denville boy and girl who will be graduating from Morris Knolls High School in June of 2010.
    To be eligible to be considered for the scholarship, an applicant must have played soccer at Morris Knolls for three years, including his/her senior year. Also, the applicant must be a Denville resident who played in the HUB Soccer travel or recreation program before going to high school.
     Scholarship applications are avilable at the Knolls guidance office and at the HUB Soccer Web site at www.hubsoccer.org. A 250-500 word essay "How Soccer Has Affected My Life" must be written by each applicant.
     Applications must be received or post marked on or before April 15, 2010, at 11:59 p.m. in order to be eligible for consideration.
     Since the program started six years ago, more than $12,000 has been awarded to Knolls and HUB Soccer players to help with their college expenses.

Open House set at Pequest Fish Hatchery

    The NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife will hold its annual Open House at the Pequest Fish Hatchery on Saturday and Sunday, March 27-28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
    The event feaures exhibits, displays and demonstrations as well as the popular Fishing Flea Market. Youngsters will have the opportunity to fish in the Fishing Education Pond or Kiddie Fishing Tank depending on their age.
    The Open House has usually been held the weekend before the opening of the spring trout season but will be a week earlier this year to avoid conflict with Easter weekend activities.
    The 2010 spring trout season opens at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 10.
    Pequest is located on Rte. 46 in Oxford, appoximately nine miles west of Hackettstown in Warren County. For further information about programs and visitation, please call 908-637-4125.
