Black and Blue flag teams
record weekend victories

DENVILLE - The Denville Blue Angels had both their Black and their Blue travel flag football teams win their games on Saturday, Sept. 25, as the Black team defeated the Jr. Knights Red, 32-13, and the Blue team edged the Jr. Knight White, 12-0. For the Black team, quarterback Steve Carri ran for touchdowns of 6, 6 and 68 yards; Jack Napeloni scored on a 10-yard run; and Brian Gordon added a 60-yard touchdown run. Alee DiLenno and Carri added one-point conversion runs to complete the scoring. On defense, Stephen Carri had a pass interception; Braedon Carri, Christian Heller, Napeloni, Victor Kellet, Alec DiLenno pulled flags for losses; Stephen Carri, Napeloni, Alex DiLenno and Patrick Miller each had multiple flag pulls; and Kristopher Corbitt, Chase Ingram, Thomas Kelson and Kyle Russo each had flag pulls. The Blue team got a 60-yard touchdown run by Jack Forgione on its first play fro scrimmage and Shane Perry got the other Denville touchdown on a 20-yard run off a double reverse. Perry's TD was set up by QB Patrick Kaiser's 32-yard run on a keeper and a short yardage run by Nicholas Tavarone. On defense, Forgione, Kyle Schermerhorn, Jonathan Duarte, Matt Kochmer and Shane Percelay pulled flags in the Jr. Knight backfield for losses and Schermerhorn Perry and Duarte each had multiple flags.

Six Blue Angels score TD in 40-0 win over B-ML
DENVILLE - Six different Blue Angels scored touchdowns when the Denville Blue team beat Boonton-Mountain Lakes, 40-0, in a Morris County Youth Football League flag division game played at Gardner Field here on Saturday, Sept. 18. Shane Percelay, Matt Kochmer, Patrick Blum, Steven Vittorio, Allen Pikus and Kyle Schermerhorn each scored on runs with Pikus breaking into the clear following a block by Jackson Porteous-Nye and a 30-yard run by Patrick Lara setting up Blum's TD. Kochmer threw a 2-point conversion pass to Vittorio and Vittorio threw a 2-point conversion pass to Jack Forgione to complete the Blue Angels' scoring. Shane Perry recorded to sacks to highlight a Denville defense that did not allow a first down during the game. Sean Curran, Jonathan Duarte, Jack Simpson, Blum Forgione, Schermerhorn, Kochmer and Percelay also had solid defense games, according to head coach Tom Forgione. The DBA Blue flag team's next game is against the Junior Knights White on Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Robert Street Park Field in Wharton. Kickoff is at 9 a.m.

DBA Flag travel teams split in openers
DENVILLE - The Denville Blue Angels travel flag football teams, made up of first- and second-graders, opened their seasons on positive notes last weekend as both the DBA Blue and the DBA Black squads played solid games against the Junior Knights program in Rockaway. The Blue team defeated the Knights Red team, 20-6, and the DBA Black and the Knights' Black played a game in which a two-point conversion pass proved the difference as the Knights won, 14-13. In the DBA Blue victory, Patrick Kaiser scored on 25-yard run; Jack Simpson scored on a 5-yard run behind a block by Jonathan Duarte; Steven Vittorio ran 65 yards for another TD; and Jack Forgione and Vittorio each scored on one-point conversion runs. Backs Patrick Blum, Kyle Schermerhorn, Kaiser, Forgione and Vittorio picked up most of the yardage for the DBA Blue. On defense, Pat Blum had two pulled flags for losses, including one that stopped the Knights' PAT attempt after their only TD; Forgione also pulled flags twice for losses; Kaiser had a flag for a 10-yard loss; Shane Perry and Simpson each had pulled flags for 4-yard losses; Duarte had a flag for a 3-yard loss; and Jackson Porteous-Nye, Blum and Vittorio also had key stops for the DBA Blue. The next game for the DBA Blue is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 18, against Boonton-Mountain Lakes at Gardner Field at 1:30 p.m. In the DBA Black game, Connor Gibbs scored on a sweep for one TD; Tommy Jupin scored on a 60-yard run; and Stephen Carri scored on a conversion run to account for the team's 13 points. Tommy Jupin had a 27-yard run and Jack Napeloni rushed for another 30 yards during the series leading to the DBA Black's first TD. On defense, Brian Gordon pulled a flag for a loss; Stephen Carri saved a TD with a stop after a long run by a Knights running back and he also intercepted a pass later in the game; Joseph Dellemonache and Braeden Carri each had key stops; Jupin had a flag for a loss; and Napeloni stopped a PAT run by the Knights. The DBA Black's next game is against the Morristown Maroon on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Gardner Field at 11:30 a.m.
