There were three things that finally convinced John Dispenziere to purchase the former "Grand Slam" indoor baseball and softball training center in Wharton and revive and reopen the facility open under its new name - "The Baseball Station."
He wanted to provide low-cost baseball and softball training and instruction to athletes in the area - especially the younger children who are just starting out in baseball.
He wanted help further the relationship between the youth baseball programs in Rockaway Township and Denville with the Morris Knolls High School baseball program.
He also saw the business as a "hands-on" learning experience for his two sons - John Jr., a 2009 Knolls grad who is completing his freshman year at Rutgers, and Nicholas, a sophomore baseball player at Knolls.
"The last thing I needed was to get involved with a business with a busy season that coincides with my accounting practice's busy season," said Dispenziere, who owns and operates his own accounting firm in Montville. "But I didn't want to see the facility just close its doors, either, because I think it's something the community needs.
"The intangible benefits of teaching my sons some good business sense, responsibility and a good work ethic were a big part of my decision, too. Right now, John is involved in every facet of the business and Nick is helping him."
Dispenziere has hired local teenagers and young adults who grew up in the area playing baseball in their towns' youth travel and rec teams before moving on to high school.
He has also arranged for Morris Knolls High School coach Adam Bonfiglio and some of his assistant coaches and players  to work with the players who enroll in programs at "The Baseball Station."
"Adam wants to work with the various youth programs and teams in Rockaway Township and Denville in an effort to help prepare the younger players for high school baseball," Dispenziere said. "We're very a happy to provide a place and help him set up a winter workout schedule to meet these needs."
"The Baseball Station" offers private, semi-private and team lessons plans for all ages and abilities. The facility has large netted cages for batting, two 60-foot mounds, two 45-foot mounds and can also be opened up to provide a larger practice facility for team drills, practices or clinics.

"The Baseball Staiton" is located in Building C, Unit 13 in the Wharton Industrial Complex in at 105 West Dewey Avenue in Wharton.
