    Race Day: The Morris Hills boys and girls teams qualified to compete in the Group 3 meet at Holmdel Pard at Holmdel that will be held Saturday, Nov. 14 ... the Morris Knolls girls team qualified for the Group 4 meet, which will also be held at Holmdel.

    Morris Hills will be sending both of its cross country teams to the Group 3 Championships Saturday, Nov. 14, at Holmdel Park in Holmdel.
    The Morris Knolls girls team will be competing in the Group 4 race, also at Holmdel Park.
    The Knights boys team qualified by finishing second in the field of 18 at the North 1, Group 3 Sectional Championship Meet held at Garret Mountain on Saturday, Nov. 7.
    Morris Hills scored 108 team points to finish second to team champ Wayne Valley, which had its top five runners finished in the first 23 places to finish with 57 points.
    Mount Olive was third with 117 points, Northern Valley-Demarest  was fourth with 138 and Northern Valley-Old Tappan was a point back to round out the top five team finishers.
    The top five teams in each section plus the top 10 runners in each race from Saturday's sectional meets, qualify to advance to the Group Meets.
    Junior Connor Doyle was the first Morris Hills runner to finish the Garrett Mountain 3.1-mile course as he crossed in 17:33.68 to finish 12th in the field of 130.
    Doyle was followed by teammates sophomore Alex Fayerman (19th in 17:50.53), sophomore Nicholas Patterson (21st, 17:51.76), senior Mark DiGennaro (30th, 18:06.53), senior Leonardo Valdebenito (38th, 18:16.79), sophomore Hemal Shah (66th, 18:54.87) and freshman Robert Biro (81st, 19:20.17).
    The Morris Hills girls team finished third in their 17-team race as the Lady Knights totaled 104 team points to trail only team champ Northern Highlands (81 points) and runnerup High Point (94). Wayne Hills finished fourth with 129 points and Paramus rounded out the top five with 140 points.
    Sophomore Erin Gaven was the first Lady Knight to finish as she raced home in 20:16.46 to finish fourth in a field of 114 runners.
    Race-winner Katie Hinchen of Northern Highlands finished in 19:51.02; runnerup Brittany Day of Demarest was timed in 19:59.02; and third-place finisher Justine Schnell of Northern Highlands was timed in 20:12.05.
    The second Morris Hills runner to finish was freshman Ailis Clyne, who ran eighth with a time of 20:29.70.
    Clyne was followed by teammates junior Stephanie Churchman (19th, 21:26.06), freshman Angela Ciallella (32nd, 21:58.30), junior Jana Sedlacek (41st, 22:20.32), junior Kira Polimeni (54th, 22:48.30) and sophomore zoe Weimersheimer (87th, 24:21.83).
    Senior Diana D'Achille's fifth-place finish in 19:32.65 sparked Morris Knolls to its third-place finish in the North 1, Group 4 girls race at Garret Mountain. The Lady Eagles finished with 86 team points to trail only team champion Randolph and runnerup Livingston in the 14-team field.
    Randolph dominated the race, scoring 20 points as the Lady Rams finished 1-2-4-6-7. Livingston had 79 points to finish second while Roxbury (92 points) and Ridgewood (149) rounded out the top five team finishers.
    Freshman Julia Strother was the second Lady Eagle to cross the line, finishing 13th in 20:16.05. She was followed by teammates sophomore Alyssa Brindle (16th, 20:28.73), freshman Heather Weick (26th, 21:08.79), sophomore Kiki Baldassari (31st, 21:33.34), freshman Priscilla Ortiz (37th, 21:51.01) and senior Brianne Henderson (56th, 22:48.02).
    The Morris Knolls boys team placed 12th in the North 1, Group 4 boys 18-team field with senior Joe Skarbek leading the way with a 17:21.87 that was good for 25th place in the 125-man field.
    Sophomore Ryan Mariani was the second Eagle to finish, turning in an 18:01.91 time for 43rd place. He was followed by teammates junior Drew Reinhardt (50th, 18:11.29), junior Neil Patel (80th, 18:58.05), junior Spencer Severson (98th, 19:22.75),  senior Jack Haeberle (100th, 19:25.05) and senior Joe Beckman (117th, 20:29.12).
    Randolph won the team title, tying with Ridgewood with 66 points but earning the first-place finish because the Rams' sixth runner finished higher than Ridgewood's.
    Livingston was third with 152 points and Vernon (158) and West Orange (200) rounded out the top five teams.
