Morris Knolls senior Joe Skarbek had the fastest time ... Morris Knolls senior Diana D'Achille had the best finish ... and the Morris Knolls junior varsity girls team had the only team title between the two sister schools after the Morris Hills and Morris Knolls boys and girls cross country teams finished racing at the Morris County Cross Country Championships held at the Kraft Complex in East Hanover on Saturday, Oct. 31. Skarbek's 17:59.35 over Kraft's 3.1-mile course, made sloppy by the rains that hit the area before race day, was good enough for 16th place overall in the varsity boys 157-runner field. The Eagles finished 11th in the 23-team field with Randolph winning the team title with 56 points followed by runnerup Mendham with 72. Morris Knolls finished with 244 team points. The next Knolls runner to finish was junior Drew Reinhardt, who was timed in 18:47.33 over the muddy track and finished 36th. He was followed by sophomore Ryan Mariani (47th in 19:06.15), junior Neil Patel (68th, 19:45.40), senior Jack Haeberle (77th, 20:05.15), junior Victor Dziegielewski (109th, 20:55.53) and senior Joe Beckman (110th, 21:04.12) also ran for Knolls. Morris Hills finished with 220 points good for eighth place in the team standings with junior Connor Doyle the first Knight to finish, navigating the soggy course in 18:39.73 good for 33rd place. Doyle was followed by teammates sophomore Nicholas Patterson (35th, 18:46.89), senior Mark DiGennaro (43rd, 18:59.22), senior Leonardo Valdenbenito (50th, 19:09.01), freshman Robert Biro (59th, 19:19.87), sophomore Connor Whelan (80th, 20:12.59) and junior Jesse Spector (84th, 20:15.92).
D'Achille runs 8th in girls race D'Achille covered the Kraft course in 20:39.35 to finish eighth overall in the 143-runner girls field. Sophomore Alyssa Brindle was close behind in 11th place with a time of 21:02.01 and freshman Julia Strother was 21st in 21:53.29. They were followed by freshman Heather Weick (35th, 22:22.93), sophomore Kiki Baldassari (40th, 22:32.45), freshman Priscilla Ortiz (58th, 23:14.85) and freshman Brianna Reggiani (72nd, 23:51.99). The Lady Eagles finished fourth in the 20-team field with 112 points. Randolph won the team title with 65 points followed by runnerup Morristown with 97 points and third-place finisher Mountain Lakes with 107 points. The Morris Hills girls team scored 192 points and finished in seventh place with two freshmen, two sophomores and three juniors in the lineup Freshman Ailis Clyne was the first Lady Knight to finish, crossing the line in 22nd place with a time of 21:55.88. Sophomore Erin Gaven was 32nd in 22:13.40 and she was followed by teammates junior Jacquelyn Mosca (36th, 22:23.44), junior Jana Sedlacek (49th, 22:59.21), freshman Angela Ciallella (60th, 23:16.89), junior Stephanie Churchman (61st, 23:20.73) and sophomore Zoe Weimersheimer (81st, 24:17.23).
Lady Eagles win JV team title The Morris Knolls girls junior varsity team put its five scoring runners in the Top 20 to capture the girls team title with 40 points, 28 points better than Randolph, which placed second in the seven-team field. Senior Brianne Henderson covered Kraft's 3.1-mile course in 24:00.04 to finish fourth with sophomore Heather LaVallee in ninth place with a time of 24:26.92. They were followed by junior teammates Elizabeth Hutnikoff (11th, 24:51.75), Melanie Lamac (12th, 24:55.37) and Lauren Carlson (19th, 25:32.00) and freshman Camille Chow (47th, 27:27.37). Morris Hills entered three runners in the meet - junior Kira Polimeni, who finished 17th in 25:23.85; sophomore Katie Lin, who was 32nd in 26:24.00; and sophomore Michelle Gonzalez, who was 62nd with a time of 30:01.92. On the boys side of the meet, Morris Hills finished fourth with 83 points and Morris Knolls was fifth with 148 points in the 16-team JV field. Morristown won the team title with 31 points with Mendham second with 48 points and Randolph third with a total of 59 team points. For Morris Hills, sophomore Hemal Shah was the first Knight to finish, crossing in 19:25.07 for eighth place in the field of 166 runners. Junior Joseph Rewick was 12th in 19:47.74 and he was followed by sophomore Joshua Shamouil (23rd, 20:26.09), sophomore Adrian Samsel (24th, 20:30.86), junior Mitchell White (25th, 20:34.39), junior Brendan Hill (38th, 21:09.50), sophomore Dustin Wahba (46th, 21:28.27), sophomore Patrick Dunn (56th, 21:50.26), sophomore Brett Mitchell (64th, 21:58.38), sophomore Brian McDermott (79th, 22:28.25), junior Derrick Washington (84th, 22:35.81), junior Mihail Stantchev (122nd, 23:5.14), senior Ian Martin (138th, 24:39.51), sophomore Sahil Kerkar (142nd, 24:52.52) and sophomore Akash Patel (159th, 27:05.23). Junior Spencer Severson was the first Knolls runner to finish the race, clocking a 20:19.82 for 21st place. Junior A.J. Wash (29th, 20:47.83), junior Bobby Cangelosi (32nd, 20:50.78), sophomore Peter Czechowicz (33rd, 20:53.21) and junior Hunter Liu (52nd, 21:47.17) completed the scoring for the Eagles. Also competing for Morris Knolls were: sophomore Vincent Sacco (53rd, 21:47.68), junior Justin Gonzales (58th, 21:53.11), senior Matt Traflet (67th, 22:03.29), junior Matt Ortigas (72nd, 22:14.88), sophomore Emilio Eriksen (92nd, 22:48.61), sophomore Ryan Johnson (109th, 23:31.29), sophomore Niko Kotoulas (110th, 23:33.37), senior Eric Lum (119th, 23:46.16), sophomore Chris Kalbfell (132nd, 24:13.20), junior Jack Wang (149th, 25:40.22), senior Neil Chen (152nd, 25:57.18) and sophomore J.P. Vanier (155th, 26:32.05). Hills' Meehan 6th in girls freshman race Neither Morris Hills nor Morris Knolls entered full teams in the boys and girls freshman 3800-meter runs. Marissa Meehan of Morris Hills was sixth in the girls race with a time of 21:09.70. In the boys race, Patrick Gaven of Morris Hills was 21st with a time of 17:25.52 and Peter LaVallee of Morris Knolls finished 42nd with a time of 18:44.81.
