McIntyre, Penczak goals
lead Furies to first win

DENVILLE - Jim McIntyre and Dan Penczak each scored second half goals as the Denville Furies defeated United FC, 2-1, in an U.S. Division game in the New Jersey Over-30 Men's Soccer League at Glenside Avenue Field in Summit on Sunday, Nov. 1.
The victory was the first for the Furies in seven games for the 2009 fall season.
Furies keeper Pete Hubert had a strong day in the nets as he stopped all but one of the 15 shots he faced during the game.

Inter battles to 3-3 tie in World Division game

DENVILLE - The Denville Inter men's over-30 soccer team and the Haledon Pythons battled to a 3-3 tie in a New Jersey Soccer League World Division game played at Wayne High School in Wayne on Sunday, Sept. 20.
Leo Ramirez gave Denville a 1-0 lead at the 10-minute mark only to have Haledon tie the score six months later.
Nathan Daniels scored for Denville in the 35th minute as Inter took a 2-1 lead into the halftime break.
Haledon tied the score again in the 60th minute and Paul Wesseling put Denville back into a one-goal lead when he scored on a penalty kick with four minutes left in the game.
But Haledon came back once again and scored the tying goal in the final minute of play to keep Denville (0-1-1) from getting its first win of the season. Denville was forced to play the entire game a man down, mainly due to injuries.
    Haledon is now 1-0-1.
Denville's scheduled game against Livingston on Sunday, Sept. 27, was postponed due to rain with no makeup date set as of yet.

Denville Inter opens season with a loss
DENVILLE - The Denville Inter over-30 men's soccer team opened its first season in the World Division - the top division - of the New Jersey Soccer League (NJSL) with a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Korona of Wallington in a game played at Knuth Filed here.
Inter and Korona were scoreless for the first 20 minutes of the game with Denville actually having the upper hand on offense with five quality shots on goal.
But the momentum turned when Korona scored its first goal and, after increasing its lead to 2-0 at the half, Korona added on three goals in the second half to take a 5-0 lead with about 15 minutes left in the game.
Denville began to control the middle of the field at that point, but the five-goal deficit was too much to overcome as the Korona defense kept Inter away from its net for the remainder of the game.
Denville Inter is sponsored by the Denville Inter FC, which also sponsors the Denville Furies and Denville Derby men's teams as well as the Denville Storm women's team.

Furies Lose to Leicester Palace
The Denville Furies jumped out to a 2-1 lead but couldn't cope with the deep bench of Leicester Palace and suffered a 5-2 loss when Leicester scored all three goals of the second half in a match played at Knuth Field here on Sunday, Sept. 20.
Leicester scored the first goal of the game but Ed Sroka tied the game for the Furies and then Matt Kurtz scored to give Denville a 2-1 lead.
But Leicester, using its bench to keep fresh legs into the game, was able to score the final four goals of the game while keeping Denville off the scoreboard.
In an earlier game, the Furies opened play in the in U.S. Division of the NJSL and were handed an 8-1 defeat at the hands of the Oakland Strikers in a game played at Oakland.
Scott Jenkins scored the only goal for the Furies, converting a second-half pass from Pete Huryk for the score. Denville goalie Kurt Kaiser finished the game with eight saves.

The Denville Storm, a 28-over women's traveling soccer team, opened its season in the Morris County Senior Soccer Association with a 4-2 loss to Basking Ridge at Basking Ridge.
Maria Mandas scored a first-half goal for the Storm and Francis Cedano scored in the second half.
