DISTRICT ONE TOURNEY
Denville reaches title game,
falls to unbeaten PT-East
-

DENVILLE - Mark Chegwidden had plenty of good things to say about his Denville 10-year-old All-Star baseball team the other day.
Denville lost a 6-5 decision to Par-Troy East in the championship game of the 2011 District One Little League 10s Baseball Tournament at Par-Troy East Fields in Parsippany on Saturday, July 9, and Chegwidden took some time to talk about the team he had just managed to a 7-3 post-season record.
"We played a tight game against an unbeaten defending championship team," Chegwidden said. "It was a tight game ... our kids battled the entire tournament right down to the final inning and final out of the championship game ... we were one run short.
"It was a great run for this team and it was really a team effort. Every player contributed din every aspect of the game ... if a player was not hitting one day he gave us great defense or ran the bases aggressively.
"I am very proud of this team and what it accomplished ... I feel it gives us a great foundation on which to build for the future."
Par-Troy East finished the tournament with an 8-0 record, winning Pool B with a 4-0 mark and then winning all four games in the double-elimination bracket-play portion of the tournament. Denville was second in Pool A with a 3-1 record and 4-2 in bracket play. If Denville had beaten Parsippany, the two teams would have had to play again for the District One championship.

Plumb was 1-for-2 with an RBI; Tomano was 1-for-4; and Scalici was 0-for-2 but drew two walks and scored twice.
